Applications with Service-oriented enterprise Architectures in the Cloud are emerging and will shape future trends in technology and communication. the development of such applications integrates enterprise Architecture and Management with Architectures for Services & Cloud computing, Web Services, Semantics and Knowledge-based Systems, Big Data Management, among other Architecture Frameworks and Software Engineering Methods. In the present work in progress research, we explore Service-oriented enterprise Architectures and application systems in the context of Big Data applications in cloud settings. Using a Big Data scenario, we investigate the integration of Services and Cloud computing architectures with new capabilities of enterprise Architectures and Management. the underlying architecture reference model can be used to support semantic analysis and program comprehension of service-oriented Big Data Applications. enterprise Services computing is the current trend for powerful large-scale information systems, which increasingly converge with Cloud computing environments. In this paper we combine architectures for services with cloud computing. We propose a new integration model for service-oriented enterprise Architectures on basis of ESARC - enterprise Services Architecture Reference Cube, which is our previous developed service-oriented enterprise architecture classification framework, with MFESA - Method Framework for Engineering System Architectures - for the design of service-oriented enterprise architectures, and the systematic development, diagnostics and optimization of architecture artifacts of service-oriented cloud-based enterprise systems for Big Data applications.

enterprise architecture supports the analysis, design and engineering of business-oriented systems through multiple views. Each view expresses the elements and relationships of a system from the perspective of specific system concerns relevant to one or more of its stakeholders. As a result, each view needs to expressed in the architecture description language that best suits its concerns. therefore, an enterprise architecture may be described using a set of different languages. However, current enterprise architecture modelling languages display two issues in this setting. First, they lack mechanisms to integrate multiple architecture description languages. this issue hinders the specification of views using different languages. Second, enterprise architecture models lack quantitative analysis support. this paper describes an ontology-based approach in order to have a modular ontology for the enterprise architecture domain, to specify and integrate multiple architecture modelling languages and to analyse the resulting integrated models. the approach relies on transformations between an upper-domain ontology based on the ArchiMate language and on a set of domain-specific ontologies to deal with the specific architecture modelling languages. the resulting models are quantifiable in the sense they provide the means to assess the consistency of the enterprise architecture models and to analyse their structure. the applicability of the approach is shown through a case study and the correctness of the ontology is shown by a set of competency questions.

this paper is presenting a discussion of feral information systems (FIS) in relationship to enterprise architecture (EA) thereby aiming to better qualify the architectural understanding of information systems not in line with corporate IT/IS strategy and policies. A qualitative and case-based approach is used as empirical foundation of this paper. With users developing own IS, classical strategy-based EA approaches are challenged. Identifying FIS can strongly improve insight into organizational processes and shortcomings official EA. A functional and temporal perspective is proposed to guide EA processes to embrace unofficial, user-driven systems. As FIS tend not to follow any rules of corporate IS, EA embrace of FIS is more complex. Using a meta-model for the social and operational character of FIS this complexity can be managed along with the improve business insight. the recognition of FIS in EA both opens up for insight in local adaptations of business processes, but can also create room for low-cost innovation and rapid response to changes in business conditions. Several forecasts are suggesting corporate IT/IS to be more user-driven and with reduced control from IT/IS professionals. this paper is opening a discussion on EA practice when centralized control is assumed to decline. EA has a tendency to be developed "top-down" emphasizing strategic alignment. In this contributed it is suggested to include social and operational alignment in EA practice.

Summary form only given, as follows. computing is being transformed to a model consisting of services that are commoditised and delivered in a manner similar to utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and telephony. In such a model, users access services based on their requirements without regard to where the services are hosted. Several computing paradigms have promised to deliver this utility computing vision. Cloud computing is the most recent emerging paradigm promising to turn the vision of "computing utilities" into a reality. Cloud computing has emerged as one of the buzzwords in the IT industry. Several IT vendors are promising to offer storage, computation and application hosting services, and provide coverage in several continents, offering Service-Level Agreements (SLA) backed performance and uptime promises for their services. It delivers infrastructure, platform, and software (application) as services, which are made available as subscription-based services in a pay-as-you-go model to consumers. the price that Cloud Service Providers charge can vary with time and the quality of service (QoS) expectations of consumers. this keynote talk will cover (a) 21st century vision of computing and identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; (b) the architecture for creating market-oriented Clouds by leveraging technologies such as VMs; (c) market-based resource management strategies that encompass both customer-driven service management and computational risk management to sustain SLA-oriented resource allocation; (d) Aneka, a software system for rapid development of Cloud applications and their deployment on private/public Clouds with resource provisioning driven by SLAs and user QoS requirements, (e) experimental results on deploying Cloud applications in engineering, gaming, and health care domains (integrating sensors networks, mobile devices), ISRO satellite image processing on elastic Clouds, and (f) need for co

enterprise architecture aligns business and information technology through the management of different elements and domains. An architecture description encompasses a wide and heterogeneous spectrum of areas, such as business processes, metrics, application components, people and technological infrastructure. Views express the elements and relationships of one or more domains from the perspective of specific system concerns relevant to one or more of its stakeholders. As a result, each view needs to be expressed in the description language that best suits its concerns. However, enterprise architecture languages tend to advocate a rigid "one-model fits all" approach where an all-encompassing description language describes several architectural domains. this approach hinders extensibility and adds complexity to the overall description language. On the other hand, integrating multiple models raises several challenges at the level of model coherence, consistency and trace ability. Moreover, EA models should be computable so that the effort involved in their analysis is manageable. this work advocates the employment of ontologies and associated techniques in EA for contributing to the solving of the aforementioned issues. thus, a proposal is made comprising an extensible architecture that consists of a core domain-independent ontology that can be extended through the integration of domain-specific ontologies focusing on specific concerns. the proposal is demonstrated through a real-world evaluation scenario involving the analysis of the models according to the requirements of the scenario stakeholders.

enterprise architecture management (EAM) aims at aligning business and IT. therefore, EAM analyzes the current and defines the target state. In order to reach the target state, EAM plans and monitors transformations affecting business processes, information systems and the underlying IT infrastructure. thereby, domains are a widely used tool in order to reduce the complexity. the domains structure the enterprise architecture, e.g. according to the business fields a company is working in. Resources and responsibilities are assigned to these domains and transformations are then coordinated within domains. this approach, however, poses the risk that business requirements are solved redundantly although an existing IT system from another domain could have been reused. It even hinders an integration of the IT systems used in the different business fields. this paper describes an approach for coordinating transformations based on so-called business building blocks (BBBs). BBBs define the essential business elements independent from their implementation, with a granularity suitable for reuse within and across domains. Our approach determines who is responsible for providing a solution to a certain business requirement by assigning clear responsibilities to the corresponding BBB. this business outcome-driven approach helps focusing on business requirement solutions instead of managing system solutions. Ideally, there is exactly one responsible authority per BBB. In the paper, we provide a description of our BBB identification method and relate the suggested approach into one of the currently most widely adopted EA frameworks, i.e. the Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). We report about the experiences we made when using this method in various EAM projects and recommend best practices.

this paper explores practitioner descriptions of agile method tailoring in large-scale offshore or outsourced enterprise projects. Specifically, tailoring of the product owner role is discussed. the product owner identifies and prioritizes customer requirements. But in globalized projects, the product owner must reconcile large numbers competing business interests and generate prioritized requirements for many development teams. the study comprises 8 international companies in London, Bangalore and Delhi. Interviews with 46 practitioners were conducted between February 2010 and May 2012. A grounded theory approach was used to identify that product owner teams comprise nine roles: Groom, Prioritizer, Release Master, Technical Architect, Governor, Communicator, Traveler, Intermediary and Risk Assessor. these product owner roles arbitrate between conflicting customer requirements, approve release schedules, make architectural design decisions, provide technical governance and disseminate information across teams. Understanding these roles will help agile coaches guide large scale agile teams.

Visualizations are common means to analyze enterprise Architecture (EA) models and support decision makers with relevant information on organizational processes, information systems, infrastructure, and their interconnections. these EA visualizations are tailored typically to the specific information demand of stakeholders. Currently, creating such stakeholder-specific visualizations requires experts with a strong technical background due to complex configurations and inflexible tool solutions. In particular business users often lack technical expertise. At the same time, their concerns and questions often arise spontaneously. In this vein, visualizations that can be generated without expert knowledge would enable business users to perform ad-hoc analyses of an EA information model. Against this background, we propose a solution which facilitates analyses of arbitrary EA information models by non-technical stakeholders. Our approach is based on ad-hoc, configurable visualizations. We introduce an end-user friendly wizard that lowers the barrier for the creation of EA visualizations. the wizard is based on structural pattern matching of models. Key to our approach are abstract viewpoints that model best-practice knowledge of EA visualizations and abstract view models which model the information demand of abstract viewpoints. Our contributions in this paper are 1) a meta-information model capable to capture both the technical information demand of an abstract viewpoint and the information offer of an EA information model, 2) a pattern matching algorithm calculating viable configurations for bindings of visualizations to information, and 3) a wizard to support non-technical stakeholders with the creation of these visualizations. We present an implementation of our approach and show user interface design of the wizard. the wizard recommends feasible configurations automatically in order to unburden the configuration process for non-technical stakeholders.

To approach the physical design of a tutor robot, we obtained 3 rd to 5 th grade children's evaluations of the relative importance of tutor traits, and of which robot design categories they perceive as most embodying top tutor traits, in an initial exploratory interview study. Results indicate that prototypical “Mechanoid” (humanoid or robotic) designs and animal-shaped designs (whether animal-like in outer cover, or more visibly a robotic animal) are superior to object-based designs (desktop objects or geometric shapes). Furthermore, children's perception of top tutor traits can be better pushed by an animal-shaped design than by a Mechanoid design, with less risk of unintended Uncanny Valley effects. Implications for designing tutor-robot embodiments toward buttressing children's expectations of an ideal tutor and for facilitating interactions, and future research directions are discussed.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) perform collaborative distributed sensing of a moving object in an environment for the purpose of classification. this requires collecting measurements from as many sensors as possible to classify the object. However, there is a tradeoff between the value of information contained in a distributed set of measurements and the energy cost of acquiring these measurements, fusing them into a belief and transmitting the updated belief. To manage this tradeoff, sensor selection schemes are used. In this paper, the sensor selection scheme proceeds as a sequence of rounds as follows. the network chooses an active set of sensors at each round based on physical proximity to the object. From this set, one sensor is selected by bidding to take a measurement. this measurement is transmitted to the sensor selected at the next round. the main contribution is to dynamically optimize the classification performance for a given cost of sensing, communication and computation. the method is illustrated by an example.
