this paper explores practitioner descriptions of agile method tailoring in large-scale offshore or outsourced enterprise projects. Specifically, tailoring of the product owner role is discussed. the product owner identifies and prioritizes customer requirements. But in globalized projects, the product owner must reconcile large numbers competing business interests and generate prioritized requirements for many development teams. the study comprises 8 international companies in London, Bangalore and Delhi. Interviews with 46 practitioners were conducted between February 2010 and May 2012. A grounded theory approach was used to identify that product owner teams comprise nine roles: Groom, Prioritizer, Release Master, Technical Architect, Governor, Communicator, Traveler, Intermediary and Risk Assessor. these product owner roles arbitrate between conflicting customer requirements, approve release schedules, make architectural design decisions, provide technical governance and disseminate information across teams. Understanding these roles will help agile coaches guide large scale agile teams.

Visualizations are common means to analyze enterprise Architecture (EA) models and support decision makers with relevant information on organizational processes, information systems, infrastructure, and their interconnections. these EA visualizations are tailored typically to the specific information demand of stakeholders. Currently, creating such stakeholder-specific visualizations requires experts with a strong technical background due to complex configurations and inflexible tool solutions. In particular business users often lack technical expertise. At the same time, their concerns and questions often arise spontaneously. In this vein, visualizations that can be generated without expert knowledge would enable business users to perform ad-hoc analyses of an EA information model. Against this background, we propose a solution which facilitates analyses of arbitrary EA information models by non-technical stakeholders. Our approach is based on ad-hoc, configurable visualizations. We introduce an end-user friendly wizard that lowers the barrier for the creation of EA visualizations. the wizard is based on structural pattern matching of models. Key to our approach are abstract viewpoints that model best-practice knowledge of EA visualizations and abstract view models which model the information demand of abstract viewpoints. Our contributions in this paper are 1) a meta-information model capable to capture both the technical information demand of an abstract viewpoint and the information offer of an EA information model, 2) a pattern matching algorithm calculating viable configurations for bindings of visualizations to information, and 3) a wizard to support non-technical stakeholders with the creation of these visualizations. We present an implementation of our approach and show user interface design of the wizard. the wizard recommends feasible configurations automatically in order to unburden the configuration process for non-technical stakeholders.

To approach the physical design of a tutor robot, we obtained 3 rd to 5 th grade children's evaluations of the relative importance of tutor traits, and of which robot design categories they perceive as most embodying top tutor traits, in an initial exploratory interview study. Results indicate that prototypical “Mechanoid” (humanoid or robotic) designs and animal-shaped designs (whether animal-like in outer cover, or more visibly a robotic animal) are superior to object-based designs (desktop objects or geometric shapes). Furthermore, children's perception of top tutor traits can be better pushed by an animal-shaped design than by a Mechanoid design, with less risk of unintended Uncanny Valley effects. Implications for designing tutor-robot embodiments toward buttressing children's expectations of an ideal tutor and for facilitating interactions, and future research directions are discussed.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) perform collaborative distributed sensing of a moving object in an environment for the purpose of classification. this requires collecting measurements from as many sensors as possible to classify the object. However, there is a tradeoff between the value of information contained in a distributed set of measurements and the energy cost of acquiring these measurements, fusing them into a belief and transmitting the updated belief. To manage this tradeoff, sensor selection schemes are used. In this paper, the sensor selection scheme proceeds as a sequence of rounds as follows. the network chooses an active set of sensors at each round based on physical proximity to the object. From this set, one sensor is selected by bidding to take a measurement. this measurement is transmitted to the sensor selected at the next round. the main contribution is to dynamically optimize the classification performance for a given cost of sensing, communication and computation. the method is illustrated by an example.

One of the difficult challenges in inter-enterprise computing is aligning business transactions and technical management of distributed transactions, especially in breach situations. We propose and analyse a two-level business transaction management framework that allows injection of business-level concerns to the control processes of inter-enterprise transactions. the two levels are associated with a) the metamodel of the collaboration, captured in eContract governing the collaboration, and b) the transactional interactions between collaboration member services. the two levels are bound together to form a reflective model;while business level breaches to the eContract can disturb the normal interactions, the metalevel possesses processes for managing (rolling back, compensating, ignoring, triggering ecosystem-level consequences) the failure in manners that align with the business incentives. this framework enables correctness, coherence and efficiency of processing in open inter-enterprise environments, i.e., service ecosystems.

We solve the problem of localizing and tracking household objects using a depth-camera sensor network. We design and implement Kinsight that tracks household objects indirectly - by tracking human figures, and detecting and recognizing objects from human-object interactions. We devise two novel algorithms: (1) Depth Sweep - that uses depth information to efficiently extract objects from an image, and (2) Context Oriented object Recognition - that uses location history and activity context along with an RGB image to recognize objects at home. We thoroughly evaluate Kinsight's performance with a rich set of controlled experiments. We also deploy Kinsight in real-world scenarios and show that it achieves an average localization error of about 13 cm.

In this industry case study, we introduce the concept of semantic mediation that enables service interoperability through common ontologies, even when the services are implemented using different data models and message standards. Leveraging open standards such as Web Ontology Language (OWL) and Semantic Annotations for XML Schema and WSDL (SAWSDL). the Semantic Mediation Bus (TM) (SMB) removes the need to perform manual correlation among disparate data sources by extending the enterprise Service Bus (ESB) infrastructure for ontology-based runtime service mediation.

this paper investigates and enhances the suitability of the ArchiMate enterprise architecture modeling language to support the modeling of business strategy concepts and architecture-based approaches to IT portfolio valuation. It gives an overview of existing strategy and valuation concepts and methods in the literature and motivates the need for enterprise architecture and business requirements modeling to capture these aspects as well. this overview results in the identification of strategy and value related concepts, such as value, risks, resources, capabilities, competencies and constraints. the paper provides an analysis of the extent to which ArchiMate may support some of the above-mentioned concepts and extends it with the missing concepts. the proposed language extension is formalized in terms of a metamodel fragment, which is aligned with the ArchiMate metamodel. the approach is also illustrated by means of an application portfolio consolidation case study in which we demonstrate how a constrained optimization valuation method can be applied to architecture models enhanced with the new concepts.

Open Source Private Cloud (OSPC) is a full stack of private cloud solution based on OpenStack to help user enable and manage private cloud environment. Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager is a platform resident technology with power and thermal policies. In this paper, we introduce how to manage power in cloud computing effectively by integrating Intel Node Manager with OSPC and define this resolution as a power management policy. Live migration supported by Xen is implemented as a new policy to balance the power load in cloud computing environment. In our experiment, Prime95 is used as a benchmark to verify the effectiveness of policies. the result shows that two policies have made OSPC possible for a more stable and flexible power management resolution.

the ODP enterprise Language is used to describe the organizational objectives and policies that apply to the system to be specified. It also captures constraints associated with the environment in which the system is to be used. Because the enterprise specification is concerned more with organizational issues than technical details of the system, there is considerable emphasis in the language design on obligations and norms, rather than on the declaration of some single rigidly required behaviour. this leads to a requirement for specification techniques that encompass a wide range of behaviour and then identify which behaviour should occur and how exceptions are to be handled;this is more challenging than computational specification, where the specification is essentially a recognizer for correct behaviour and does not define what is to happen if there are violations. this paper describes work currently in progress within the international Organization for Standardization (ISO) to extend the enterprise Language so that it is able to express more directly the necessary obligations and other deontic concepts, such as permissions and prohibitions. the approach being taken is to introduce a new kind of object that reifies the deontic constraints and thereby simplifies the description of the behaviour expected. Once the basic concepts are in place, they can be used to define a wide range of organizational matters, such as delegation rules and the way communities respond dynamically to changes in their structure.
