the Internet of things (IoT) integrates wireless sensors to provide online and real-time access to the state of things and places. However, many interesting real-world states are difficult to detect with traditional scalar sensors. Tiny wireless camera sensor nodes are an interesting alternative as a single camera can observe a large area in great detail. However, low image resolution, poor image quality, and low frame rates as well as varying lighting conditions in outdoor scenarios make the detection of real-world states using these lousy cameras a challenging problem. In this paper we introduce a framework that addresses this problem by providing an end-to-end solution that includes energy-efficient image capture, image enhancement to mitigate low picture quality, object detection with low frame rates, inference of high-level states, and publishing of these states on the IoT. the framework can be flexibly configured by end-users without programming skills and supports a variety of different applications.

Withthe increasing complexity and scale of business processes, and the underlying information systems, there is a demand for monitoring the complicated business processes spanning multiple enterprise information systems distributed in a heterogeneous IT environment. this paper presents a unified monitoring framework for such distributed information system management. this framework utilizes Web service and messaging queue technologies to collect log data for business process visualization and monitoring and decouples the tight links between the monitoring tool and the components to be monitored. XML is used to define a universal data format for different types of information to be monitored. A prototype tool is implemented and presented to demonstrate the feasibility and usability of the proposed framework, and experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance overhead introduced by the monitoring.

Open Source Private Cloud (OSPC) is a full stack of private cloud solution based on Open Stack to help user enable and manage private cloud environment. Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager is a platform resident technology with power and thermal policies. In this paper, we introduce how to manage power in cloud computing effectively by integrating Intel Node Manager with OSPC and define this resolution as a power management policy. Live migration supported by Xen is implemented as a new policy to balance the power load in cloud computing environment. In our experiment, Prime95 is used as a benchmark to verify the effectiveness of policies. the result shows that two policies have made OSPC possible for a more stable and flexible power management resolution.

this paper investigates and enhances the suitability of the Archi Mate enterprise architecture modeling language to support the modeling of business strategy concepts and architecture-based approaches to IT portfolio valuation. It gives an overview of existing strategy and valuation concepts and methods in the literature and motivates the need for enterprise architecture and business requirements modeling to capture these aspects as well. this overview results in the identification of strategy and value related concepts, such as value, risks, resources, capabilities, competencies and constraints. the paper provides an analysis of the extent to which Archi Mate may support some of the above-mentioned concepts and extends it withthe missing concepts. the proposed language extension is formalized in terms of a met model fragment, which is aligned withthe Archi Mate metamodel. the approach is also illustrated by means of an application portfolio consolidation case study in which we demonstrate how a constrained optimization valuation method can be applied to architecture models enhanced withthe new concepts.

Social media have become a global phenomenon affecting people in their private lives and in their personal interactions, particularly among younger people. It is thus not surprising that social media are also being explored in professional contexts such as in enterprises, where a number of social media platforms and social extensions to existing workgroup and collaboration systems have been emerging. In this paper, we consider one such platform that was developed for the internal use in a large global enterprise (HP). We present data and analysis of how this social media platform has been used in HP over the past five years. We then present conclusions from this analysis and relate them to work patterns in enterprises withthe goal of advancing social media to the next level making them better fit the work context and more relevant for people in their work functions. We consider enterprise sales processes as a case study and present a number of extensions for our social media platform.

Cloud-computing is spreading quickly in industry. In the beginning, single cloud services have been in the center of interest. Nowadays, so called cloud environments are quickly gaining momentum. Cloud environments are collections of cloud services and resources. Cloud environments allow to build cloud based information systems. Cloud based information systems are configurations of services and resources provided by dynamic cloud-environments. To promote the development of a design methodology cloud based information systems are conceptualized using the entities provided by cloud environments. this static view is complemented by the definition of a life cycle described for cloud based information systems. Data processing in Cloud or IoT (Internet of things) sometimes implies continuous real-time queries as data streams. In order to acquire extreme value of data stream over time-based sliding window, traditional approaches computed the exact solution through vast space especially under worse circumstances. In this paper, we design space-bounded synopsis data structure and random algorithm for extreme aggregation to get non-exact solution by finite extrema candidates over time sliding window, whose validity can be theoretically guaranteed. Comprehensive experiments on synthetic and real data set are designed to analyze the tradeoff between accuracy and overhead, which also illustrate the effectiveness.
