DIES system for designing and improving enterprise business scenarios is proposed. Such scenarios are executed and monitored in an SOA environment. Many metrics are gathered, and strong/weak aspects are pointed out. DIES allows the improvement of a scenario's performance, quality, and usability. Due to technology-agnostic API the system supports any extensible business scenario technology, and it utilizes WS-BPEL standard and Apache ODE as its execution engine. A representative case study is considered, and evaluation and modification of the scenario is discussed.

the present is a report of an exploratory case study about using an enterprise Architecture method for addressing the business transformation challenges of embedded mobile provisioning in the telecommunications industry. the study focused on the analysis of the provisioning process for gathering transformation requirements, translating them into business objectives and deriving a set of strategic initiatives. In addition, it explored the construction and usefulness of visual representations of the vision and strategy. the results show that such formal method is perceived useful for defining the transformation strategy.

We propose to model an enterprise as an institutional agent with organizational units and human actors as subagents that participate in zero or more business processes involving other subagents of the enterprise and other agents, which are possibly affiliated with other organizations. Our approach, which unifies state structure and behavior modeling, leads to a more holistic model of an enterprise, and its multitude of business processes, compared to traditional BPM approaches, such as Petri Nets and BPMN, which are exclusively focused on single business processes. We discuss the ontological foundations of our approach and show the superiority of our rule-based modeling and simulation language AORSL, which allows the operational modeling of entire business systems and their business processes.
the security requirements for mobile devices are inherently different from stationary machines. Mobility exposes them to different threat environments and excludes them from relying on external physical security. Prod...

Withthe new trend of shifting from traditional architectures towards Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) today, the need to model integration becomes increasingly apparent. this study analyzes two main approaches for SOA integration modeling: using Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Service-oriented architecture Modeling Language(SoaML), having as a fundament a literature study, an evaluation between the two is made, based on a defined set of criteria. the results show where SoaML brings added advantages to UML and why it may be worth being used on a large scale.

Single sign-on (SSO) protocols allow one person to use the same login credentials for several organizations. enterprises face increasing competitive pressure to position themselves with regard to SSO, yet the ramifications of a move to SSO are not fully understood. In this paper we discuss OpenID, a relatively new SSO protocol that is gaining traction on the web. We apply enterprise application modelling techniques to OpenID in order to obtain well-founded decision aids for enterprises: we show how published modelling approaches can be used to analyse risks in OpenID, and show that these can identify security problems with common OpenID practice. Finally, we propose analysis principles that condense important general insights of authentication modelling.

If and where IT investments should be made can be determined withthe help of IT portfolio valuation instruments. An interesting approach is Bedell's method. However, this method originates from a time where enterprises we restructured according to the classical silo architecture. Nowadays the importance of IT has increased, and IT systems and services are more and more interwoven withthe business. enterprise Architecture is a model-based approach that takes into consideration how companies are structured today and how they apply IT. In order to use enterprise Architecture models in conjunction with Bedell's method the method needs to be extended. this paper presents an updated version of Bedell's method that exploits enterprise Architecture models, in particular the information they contain about the alignment of IT support to the business. In addition, the paper illustrates the application of the method using an example.

In parallel to the effort of creating Open Linked Data for the World Wide Web there is a number of projects aimed for developing the same technologies but in the context of their usage in closed environments such as private enterprises. In the paper, we present results of research on interlinking structured data for use in Idea Management Systems - a still rare breed of knowledge management systems dedicated to innovation management. In our study, we show the process of extending an ontology that initially covers only the Idea Management System structure towards the concept of linking withdistributedenterprise data and public data using Semantic Web technologies. Furthermore we point out how the established links can help to solve the key problems of contemporary Idea Management Systems.

there is a compelling need for highly customized Domain Specific Languages and Business Vocabulary in certain industries such as insurance, mortgage, and finance to enable Knowledge Workers to articulate and to automate complex rules pertinent to their areas of function within their companies. Rule Engine vendors attempt to provide a solution to the problem by selling an integrated Rules Engine and Business Rules Management System. Usually, the BRMS's provided by vendors need to be customized and integrated into the overall enterprise Architecture. this results in the enterprise Architecture to be tightly coupled withthe vendor's rule offering. Moreover, it poses a significant risk to the enterprise as vendor solutions change between releases. the enterprise Architecture needs a way to insulate itself from such impacts. this paper describes a framework that delivers the core BRMS functions of authoring and representation in a vendor neutral fashion. In addition, the paper sheds light on specific areas of the framework that can be standardized.

Given the importance of clients in service-oriented computing, and the ongoing evolution of distributed system and application realization technologies from client/service architectures, through distributed-object and service-oriented to cloud computing, there is a growing need to lower the complexities and barriers involved in the development of client applications. these range from large scale business applications and business processes to laptop programs and small "apps" on mobile devices. In this paper we present a unified conceptual framework in which the basic concerns and viewpoints relevant for building clients of service-oriented, distributed systems can be expressed and related to one another in a platform-independent, non-proprietary way. the basic concerns used to structure the framework are the level of abstraction at which a system is represented and the roles from which the software entities of a distributed system are viewed. Using the various models supported in the framework it is possible to customize each client developer's view and simplify the way in which service providers develop and maintain their services. this paper provides an overview of our framework and show how it could be applied using a small example.
