enterprise Architecture approaches are used to provide rigorous descriptions of the organization-wide environment, manage the alignment of deployed services to the organization's mission, end ensure a clear separation of the concerns addressed in an architecture. thus, an effective enterprise Architecture approach assists in the management of relations and dependencies of any components of the organization environment and supports the integration and evolution of the architecture. However, the quality of that approach is strongly influenced by the precision of the architecture context description, a fact which is not always recognized. this paper focuses on the architecture context description and addresses the gap between the stakeholders' concerns and the resulting architecture. Based on a combination of established references and standards, we show how an explicit integration of the architecture context into the architecture model improves the linking of concerns and key elements of the architecture vision. We apply our approach to a subject of increasing concern in the Information Systems area: longevity of information. Digital preservation is an interdisciplinary problem, but existent initiatives address it in a very domain-centric way, making it impossible to integrate documented knowledge into an overall organization architecture. We analyze several references and models and derive a description of the architecture context and a capability model that supports incremental development through an explicit distinction between systems and their capabilities. the presented approach allows not just any organization to assess their current digital preservation awareness and evolve their architectures to address this challenge, but in particular demonstrates the added value of an explicit architecture context model in an enterprise Architecture approach.

enterprise Architecture (EA) is rapidly becoming an established discipline. However, this does not mean that the practice of EA is already fully standardized. Practitioners as well as researchers report various techniques being used in the EA practice. And although EA has various potential benefits, evidence of real benefits is only just emerging. this paper presents empirical evidence of the relations between EA techniques used and EA benefits perceived, as well as the influence of contextual factors. the evidence is based on the results of a survey (n=293) held among both architects and stakeholders of EA in a wide variety of organizations. Employing multivariate regression analysis we found that the combination of project compliance, EA choices being explicitly linked to business goals and organized knowledge exchange between architects is a strong predictor for EA being perceived as a good instrument. We also established that significant differences exist in EA practice effectiveness between different economic sectors. Government appears to reap less benefits from EA than other sectors. the empirical evidence furthermore shows only a small influence of organizational size and number of architects on EA effectiveness.

In cloud computing, service providers develop and deploy services with common and reusable features among various applications, service consumers locate and reuse them in building their applications. Hence, reusability is a key intrinsic characteristic of cloud services. Services with high reusability would yield high return-on-investment. Cloud services have characteristics which do not appear in conventional programming paradigms, existing quality models for software reusability would not applicable to services. In this paper, we propose a reusability evaluation suite for cloud services, which includes quality attributes and metrics. A case study is presented to show its applicability.

Mobile devices are widely accepted as a convergence machine which provides both cell phone capability and a lightweight computing capability. However, mobile devices have a major drawback of limited computing power and resources such as main memory and battery life. Service-based mobile applications are emerged as an efficient solution to overcome this limitation of mobile devices. On the other hand, with the advent of more powerful mobile devices, mobile devices are actively participating as computer nodes and performing enterprise functionality. In this paper, we present a practical framework for dynamically deploying services. With the ever increasing computing power of mobile devices, we project that mobile devices can also be used as computer nodes deploying services. A number of benefits for deploying services on mobile devices existed. In this paper, we define an ecosystem for service-based mobile computing, and present techniques for deploying services on station nodes and mobile nodes, which are challenging problems. By applying dynamical deployment of services on both station and mobile nodes, the overall quality of the ecosystem can be consistently maintained.

the paper presents the result of several work which we completed previously [8] [9] [10] [11]. It is a framework dedicated to emerging pervasive environments whose one of the objectives among others is to deal with the dynamic adaptation of pervasive systems [13] [19]. the framework operates at two steps in the application lifecycle such as i) at development step it assists the developer and helps him to create applications supporting the dynamic adaptation, ii) at run-time it provides means and facilities to the administrator to dynamically adapt the running application. the framework provides a solution to the development cost issues and complexity of dynamic applications. It is intended to be generic i.e. independent from a particular component model.

Cloud computing is expected to provide powerful and easy-to-use model for application design, development, operation and maintenance. there are mainly two models of cloud: IaaS and PaaS model. In IaaS model, application developer and operator have the biggest flexibility for they can control owned virtual machines and most resources totally, but this model needs high technical skills in application development and operation phase. PaaS model claims easy to development, deployment and maintenance, but all these advantage are based on the specific programming model and application architecture. Migration to PaaS cloud for existing applications usually brings big effort and cost increasing. In this paper, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the two models from enterprise class application developer angle. then present an application lifecycle model in which developers could design, develop and deploy their application or legacy systems without programming limitation and migration effort. the application lifecycle model takes application as the centric concept and supported by a set of cloud platform tools. We discuss the application lifecycle framework defined in this model, and then we discussed the possible supporting cloud architecture.

Location-based event data is captured in RFID-aided supply chains for tacking individual goods. they are stored in distributed event repositories by involved supply chain parties. Performing anti-counterfeiting checks involves exchange of event data without exposure of sensitive business secrets. Current EPC global standards leave the definition of security strategies open for concrete implementation. We consider data security as the major aspect that needs to be clarified before wide adaption of EPC global standards will be considered by industries. the given work contributes by defining security extensions for EPC global networks and sharing implementation details of our research prototype. We show that incorporating in-memory technology enables history-based access control while keeping response times fast.

Person re-identification is one of the most challenging issues in network-based surveillance. the difficulties mainly come from the great appearance variations induced by illumination, camera view and body pose changes. Maybe influenced by the research on face recognition and general object recognition, this problem is habitually treated as a verification or classification problem, and much effort has been put on optimizing standard recognition criteria. However, we found that in practical applications the users usually have different expectations. For example, in a real surveillance system, we may expect that a visual user interface can show us the relevant images in the first few (e.g. 20) candidates, but not necessarily before all the irrelevant ones. In other words, there is no problem to leave the final judgement to the users. Based on such an observation, this paper treats the re-identification problem as a ranking problem and directly optimizes a listwise ranking function named Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR), which is considered by us to be able to generate results closest to human expectations. Using a maximum-margin based structured learning model, we are able to show improved re-identification results on widely-used benchmark datasets.

the paper shows how to describe the semantics of domain-specific enterprise and information system (IS) modelling languages using the Unified enterprise Modelling Language (UEML). the approach is illustrated with a fragment of a domain-specific modelling language based on the new ISO 15926 standard for data integration, sharing and hand-over between computer systems. the aim is to ensure that the semantics of new domain-specific languages (DSLs) can be quickly, easily and precisely defined in relation both to one another and to existing general-purpose languages.

In ODP, an enterprise specification is expressed in terms of the definition of some set of communities, characterized by their community contracts. A community places constraints on its members, restricting the behaviour they can participate in. this may involve a stronger form of constraint than those which result from the traditional binding of objects at interfaces, which requires only that the communication between the objects has some observable properties. this paper discusses the different forms of constraints, and examines the range of forms that community construction may take. In particular, it examines the process of abstracting from a community to yield a community object, and then using this object to fill some role in a broader community. It shows that the role filling process needs to consider mappings and constraints between objects that fill other roles in the communities concerned.
