As the number and diversity of end user environments increase, services should be able to dynamically adapt to available resources in a given environment. In this paper, we present the concepts of migratory services and peer-to-peer connections as the means of facilitating adaptive service and resource management in distributed and heterogeneous environments. Our approach has been realized using object-oriented principles in Adaptive Communicating Applications Platform (ACAP). the architectural design and implementation of a real-life high-level service, Virtual Call Center (VCC), are used to illustrate issues in adaptive service and management issues and discuss in detail our approach in ACAP.

When calculating the worst case execution time for object-oriented programs one needs flow information, such as loop bounds and information on infeasible paths. In most cases, the programmer is expected to supply these as manual annotations. this paper presents a prototype tool which calculates this information automatically for realtimeTalk (RTT) programs. this paper describes a replication algorithm for distributedreal-timeobject-oriented databases in a static environment. All data requirements are specified a priori, and the algorithm creates replication transactions that copy remote data to a local site in order to guarantee that every data request reads temporally valid data. the algorithm conditions are proven to be necessary and sufficient for providing this guarantee. Test results indicate that under most conditions, this replication strategy is better than total replication, which is a typical strategy used in distributed databases.

the real-time CORBA and minimumCORBA specifications are important steps towards defining standard-based middleware which can satisfy real-time requirements in an embedded system. these real-time middlewares must be based on a real-time operating system (RTOS) and a real-time network. this article presents a new time-triggered ethernet protocol that has been implemented under RTLinux. Furthermore it describes a real-time CORBA implementation called ROFES, which is based on this new real-time network.
