Recently, there has been renewed interest in latency as a primary metric for mainstream data center applications. In this paper, we propose a coordinated mechanism for congestion control and multi-path transmission to reduce flow completion time in data centers. the approach leverages ECN to adaptively react to congestion, prioritizes flows according to their timeliness requirements, and evenly distributes network traffic across multiple paths. through a real implementation and simulations, we show that our approach can effectively reduce flow completion time under different workflow patterns. Compared to existing solutions based on TCP and flow hashing, our approach achieves an improvement of 30% in application throughput and a reduction of up to 90% in 99th percentile flow completion time for latency-sensitive flows, and a reduction of 50%-80% in average completion time for long background flows. © 2013 IEEE.

the network Service Interface (NSI) has been created as a result of collaborative development of network and application engineers primarily associated with the Research and Education (R&E) community. the NSI allows workflow systems not only to check available service points for a workflow engine to schedule executions, but also to reserve and provide network connections among those service points. the Open Flow technology provides programmability on the network Flow and allows software to define dynamically behaviour of the network. these new features offer data intensive applications new opportunities to optimize the mapping between data Flow patterns and the infrastructure yielding better system level quality. However, they also require the computing support systems effectively capture not only the characteristics of the application workflow but also the controllability of the underlying network. In this paper we discussed the extension of our previous system called network QoS Planner (NEWQoSPlanner) and investigated how reservation based connection services can be enhanced by dynamic network Flow control. We also discusse how NEWQoSPlanner invokes network services to achieve connection reservation and provisioning, and includes Open Flow to realize dynamic Flow optimization for data intensive workflows. © 2013 IEEE.

Monitoring and awareness are essential in collaborative work environments, in order to support team members' interaction and coordination processes. there has been much work in implementing awareness in web-based applications, but less so for P2P collaborative systems. P2P systems have the potential to foster more group interaction than server-based approaches, as group members can interact directly with each other and can share their knowledge, skills and resources in order to provide mutual support in the accomplishment of group tasks. Several challenges arise due to the large-scale, dynamic and heterogenous nature of P2P collaborative systems. In this paper we discuss the provision of event-based awareness services in P2P groupware systems. We first review the major requirements for such awareness functionality, and propose a structured P2P network model for meeting these requirements. We then identify a set of low level awareness services and show how these can interoperate over the P2P network in order to provide awareness as part of the P2P middleware infrastructure. Finally, we envision the use of service composition to provide more complex awareness services and we discuss the implementation of a superpeer network on a Cloud platform and the provision of reliable awareness services from the Cloud.

A Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network is decentralised and relies on end-users capacities for a good delivery of service. the more end-users are sharing the content, the more powerful the system is. P2P applications are now widely used for many services. But P2P systems are still based on a end-to-end connectivity on the current IP-based Internet. For few years, a new networking paradigm emerged, the Content-Centric networking (CCN) approach. In CCN, the user just cares about the content, not about the node that provides it. It takes as input some features of the P2P systems, applying them in the network itself. However, current CCN system forwards messages based on a defined forwarding table, filled with the advertisements of content providers. It does not take into the consideration of the fact that end-users that requested the contents can cache them for a while and thus be the potential sources of content, as it is in a P2P system. In this paper, we propose to take into consideration of the caching capacities of end-users in the CCN design so as to improve the content delivery in a CCN network. this is achieved by the design of a content-aware dynamic downstream forwarding scheme, and an adaptation of the current way to fill the forwarding table. Our evaluation shows that exploiting the end-users P2P caching facilities allows to improve the efficiency to the CCN network by reducing the memory requirements of the CCN node and by improving the data delivery to end-users via a closer delivery.

the number of stream-based information sources is increasing, so query processing on streams is getting more important. Window-join is one of typical operations for stream data processing. It uses sliding-windows to keep recent input tuples, and generate the join result from the tuples in the window. To reduce processing cost of window-join, some parallel window-join algorithms have been proposed in the context of distributed environments. their main objectives are increasing throughput. they do not concern about reducing processing delay, because delay caused network transfer is unavoidable in distributed environments. In our research, we focus on reducing processing delay of window-join by using multi-core environments instead of distributed environments. We propose and evaluate two parallel window-join algorithms for multiple input streams. the first one is parallel Tree-based Join, which makes multiple cores execute multiple join trees with different join orders. Each join tree is optimized to minimize processing delay for tuples from one stream. Another is parallel MJoin, which is an extension of existing MJoin algorithm. parallel MJoin concurrently performs multiple probe processes instead of sequential probe used in original MJoin. this paper also includes experimental evaluation to investigate efficiency of two methods.

In a multiprocessor array, some processing elements (PEs) fail to function normally due to hardware defects or soft faults caused by overheating, overload or occupancy by other running applications. Fault-tolerant reconfiguration considered in this paper is to reorganize fault-free PEs from a processor array with faults to a logical array of regular mesh topology by changing the interconnections among PEs. this paper presents the efficiency of the flexible rerouting scheme to maximize the usage of the fault-free PEs, by developing an efficient reconfiguration algorithm without backtracking. the proposed algorithm constructs each logical columns from left to right on candidate PE sets. It updates the candidate sets by excluding the PEs which cannot be used, once a logical column is formed. Also, it is proved that the proposed heuristic algorithm is able to generate the maximum-size logical array in linear time. Experimental results show that 123 logical columns can be constructed on 256 x 256 host arrays with fault density of 30%, resulting in an improvement of 51% in comparison to the previous algorithm by which only 82 logical columns can be produced. Furthermore, our algorithm is able to generate target arrays with harvest over 56% on host arrays with fault density of 50%, while the previous work cited in this paper fails to construct any target array in this case.

the emergence of vivacious bandwidth-consuming services leveraged by the overwhelmingly content-centric usage on Internet has fostered over last years a new foundation for networking architecture design. Several Information-Centric networking (ICN) architectures have then been proposed to tackle the challenging problems for content dissemination and distribution. those architectures propose a forwarding plane based on a naming scheme that uniquely identifies content objects in the network regardless of their location. Routing in ICN is thus performed on content names by means of a name resolution service that can be operated independently on the current endpoint-centric networking infrastructure. In order to sketch out the efficient design of such information-centric networks, an important functionality need to be taken into account for resolving information usability which consists in finding appropriate content objects matching users' interest. We propose in this paper a novel forwarding scheme which integrates content search in the network path when resolving content names into locators (where content is actually stored). the content indexing and discovery function relies on distance sensitive hashing based DHT for similarity search between content objects. the proposed routing algorithm can be used for better performance than using classical DHTs for resolving names in ICN. We conceptually embed the high-dimension set of content objects into a low-dimension for reducing processing complexity, which allows us to design an efficient and scalable information-centric forwarding plane with in-network content search.

Mobile online social networks (mOSNs) become more and more popular, and compared with traditional OSNs, mOSNs take a step further in that they provide the location-based services, which also raise significant privacy concerns. Location sharing is a fundamental component of mOSN, however, users may be hesitant to share locations if privacy is not guaranteed. In this paper, we present a new privacy-preserving location sharing system for mOSN, which is flexible to support a variety of location-based applications, in that it enables location sharing between both trusted social relations and untrusted strangers. In this system, threat models are further analyzed and users' location privacy is proved to be preserved.

Teams collaborating during the design of a project can be considered as a subset of a Digital Ecosystem. their work are supported by digital systems that are mainly used to capitalize any kind of data and documents created or only consulted during common sessions. We are interested by the way people can create together new ideas either using the same interactive system like an interactive tabletop either using individual devices like tablet pcs. We have made an experiment where two teams have to collaborate during common sessions but in two different places. Teams shared two similar collaborative environment communicating in a synchronous way. Each activity on one display is replicated in real time on the remote system. the paper describes the interactive system and the persitence system used to capitalize data. It presents the different activities that can be performed and it also shows the experiments that have been conducted.
