the majority of the worldwide economy is service, and the conversion of processes and functions into services has dominated software and other engineeringthinking for the past several years. the technical approaches necessary to use a service approach are only part of the challenge. Service management practices that began in traditional service disciplines are also potential performance enhancers for an enormous variety of work, including information technology and engineering of all sorts. What has become clear in the first three years since the release of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) for Services (CMMI-SVC) [1] is that it may be the most broadly applicable of the three CMMI models, and can be used to support improvements in the management of development, leading to higher quality and better business results.

Modern virtualized system environments usually host diverse applications of different parties and aim at utilizing resources efficiently while ensuring that quality-of-service requirements are continuously satisfied. In such scenarios, complex adaptations to changes in the system environment are still largely performed manually by humans. Over the past decade, autonomic self-adaptation techniques aiming to minimize human intervention have become increasingly popular. However, given that adaptation processes are usually highly system specific, it is a challenge to abstract from system details enabling the reuse of adaptation strategies. In this paper, we propose a novel modeling language (meta-model) providing means to describe system adaptation processes at the system architecture level in a generic, human-understandable and reusable way. We apply our approach to three different realistic contexts (dynamic resource allocation, software architecture optimization, and run-time adaptation planning) showing how the gap between complex manual adaptations and their autonomous execution can be closed by using a holistic model-based approach.

Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) are claimed to bring important productivity improvements to developers, when compared to General-Purpose Languages (GPLs). the increased Usability is regarded as one of the key benefits of DSLs when compared to GPLs, and has an important impact on the achieved productivity of the DSL users. So, it is essential to build in good usability while developing the DSL. the purpose of this proposal is to contribute to the systematic activity of software Language engineering by focusing on the issue of the Usability evaluation of DSLs. Usability evaluation is often skipped, relaxed, or at least omitted from papers reporting development of DSLs. We argue that a systematic approach based on User Interface experimental validation techniques should be used to assess the impact of new DSLs. For that purpose, we propose to merge common Usability evaluation processes withthe DSL development process. In order to provide reliable metrics and tools we should reuse and identify good practices that exist in Human-Computer Interaction community.

Modeling of business processes has been both recommended by academia and adopted by industry for elicitation of system requirements. software process maturity models are also relevant in industry, and compliance withthem is a major concern for many organizations. therefore, business process-driven requirements engineering approaches should aim to comply withthose maturity models, and how the approaches comply or not should be determined. However, no work has addressed these issues properly. this paper proposes a compliance analysis, based on a maturity model, of business process-based requirements engineering approaches as a first step to tackle these issues. this type of analysis allows practitioners to know if a specific approach meets their needs, and researchers to identify room for improvement in approaches in order to try to increase their industrial acceptance. As an example, the compliance of an existing approach withthe requirements development process area of CMMI-DEV is analyzed. the analysis has allowed us to determine the characteristics of the approach that meet CMMI-DEV, and to identify improvement opportunities so that the approach fulfills further industry needs. Furthermore, the results of the analysis apply to other approaches.

this book contains the refereed proceedings of the 12thinternationalconference on agilesoftware Development, XP 2011, held in Madrid, Spain, in May 2011. the year 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the agile Manifesto. In this spirit, the XP conference continued its fine tradition of promoting agility by disseminating new research results in a timely manner and by bringing together researchers and practitioners for a fruitful mutual exchange of experiences. As introduced for XP 2010, there were again two different program committees, one for research papers and one for experience reports. Regarding the research papers, 11 out of 56 submissions were accepted as full papers; and as far as the experience reports were concerned, the respective number was 4 out of 17 submissions. In addition to these papers, this volume also includes the short research papers, the abstracts of the posters, the position papers of the PhD symposium, and the abstracts of the workshops.

this book contains the refereed proceedings of the 11thinternationalconference on agilesoftware Development, XP 2010, held in Trondheim, Norway, in June 2010. In order to better evaluate the submitted papers and to highlight the applicational aspects of agilesoftware practices, there were two different program committees, one for research papers and one for experience reports. Regarding the research papers, 11 out of 39 submissions were accepted as full papers; and as far as the experience reports were concerned, the respective number was 15 out of 50 submissions. In addition to these papers, this volume also includes the short research papers, the abstracts of the posters, the position papers of the PhD symposium, and the abstracts of the panel on Collaboration in an agile World.

Numerous reports indicate that problems exist withthe requirements phase of software development. Although agile approaches help, challenges that still exist involve supporting multiple diverse stakeholders including developers in understanding and representing a problem domain. this poster proposes the combination of Open Space Technology (OST) withextremeprogramming (XP) through Scenarios to better facilitate all relevant stakeholders during requirements elicitation.
