Nowadays, with technological developments, computer software has become an indispensable part of human life. As the importance of software increases, error-free operation, reduced costs and increased customer satisfaction have become important. In parallel with these, becoming agile in software development processes, measuring the quality of software and detecting errors in advance have become critical areas of work in the software world. In this study, a new model has been developed to predetermine the error proneness of object-oriented software developed with agile software development methodologies using static code analysis measurements. Collecting customer feedback early and frequently, which is one of the basic principles of agile working, has been implemented within the scope of the model and turned into a major decision-making element. the aim is to anticipate the problems that may arise with the classes. In addition, it is aimed to both reduce software development costs and contribute to increasing customer satisfaction. It is planned to enrich the model developed in the later stages of the study and turn it into a model based on external quality criteria as well as internal quality metrics of the software. the aim here is to make the changes in classes and modules traceable in the agile software life cycle and to present systemic suggestions. © 2023 IEEE.

agile systems, like the Kanban and Scrum frameworks, are built on assumptions of sustainability and stability, however, there is little empirical evidence on whether such systems are stable in practice or not. therefore, in this study we aim to inspect the stability of agile systems by leveraging the concept of stability described in Queueing theory. We define a novel metric, the Stability Metric, as a way of assessing queueing systems, especially agile systems. We inspect 926 Jira projects in 14 organizations with over 1.6 million product backlog items using this metric. the analysis showed that 72.89% of these Jira projects were not stable and stable systems, on average, had product backlog sizes 10 times shorter than unstable ones. these results suggest that while the goal of agile is to create a sustainable, stable way of working, this is not guaranteed, and a better understanding of systems and queues may be required to help design, create, coach, and maintain optimal agile systems.

Large Language Models (LLM) are reshaping the field of software engineering (SE). they enable innovative methods for executing many SE tasks, including automation of entire process of software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). However, only a limited number of existing works have thoroughly explored the potential of LLM based AI agents to automate the entire lifecycle in SE. In this paper, we demonstrate the success of our initial efforts in automating the entire lifecycle autonomously based on given software specification as input, which has shown remarkable efficiency and significantly reduced development time. Our preliminary results suggest that the careful implementation of AI agents can enhance the development lifecycle. We aim to streamline the SDLC by integrating all phases into an AI-driven chat interface, enhancing efficiency and transparency. Furthermore, we seek to enhance collaboration, creating an environment where stakeholders from various backgrounds can contribute, review, and refine ideas and requirements in real-time. this forward-looking direction guarantees to redefine the paradigms of SE and also make software creation more inclusive, collaborative, and efficient.

the number of software startups in Namibia has increased over the last decade, although most of them do not survive for long in the industry. For software startups to thrive, a suitable ecosystem is required to support them as the sustainability of startups is determined by the actions and interactions of the ecosystem actors. We aimed to gain a better understanding of the current software startup ecosystem in Namibia, emphasizing how the startup is connected to and supported by other actors in the ecosystem. Understanding the ecosystem will assist in informing future support needed by software startups to increase their sustainability and the growth of the ecosystem. An online questionnaire was employed to collect data from participants from software startups, as well as institutions that support software startups and entrepreneurs in Namibia. the results show that the Namibian software startup ecosystem is still in its early development stages and offers limited assistance for startups to grow. Access to finance is a challenge for startups, as most of the startups are founded and supported by personal funds, and few are funded by investors and Venture Capital funds and receive little to no financial support from the government. the universities play a role in supporting software startups through software development and entrepreneurial education, and training. Incubators and accelerators, although not a lot in the ecosystem, offer software entrepreneurs mentorship and a supportive environment to grow their businesses. the startups require more funding, access to resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities from other ecosystem actors.

software is a critical component of nearly every product or service. Improvements in software can lead to substantial competitive advantages. At the same time, software and surrounding engineering teams have become increasingly complex. the adoption of continuous integration and delivery is a recent trend to radically improve software release speed. However, its adoption is far from straightforward. Specifically, rethinking processes, organizational culture, ways of working, and business models require buy-in from diverse stakeholders that may have conflicting objectives. Such situations are explored by organizational conflict research. this paper reports on early lessons from an ongoing research project in continuous software engineering, specifically investigating adoption challenges from an organizational conflict perspective. We identify catalysts, symptoms, and outcomes of organizational conflicts hindering the adoption process. We conclude that predictable conflicts emerge when adopting continuous engineering. Engineers, managers, and other teams can proactively prepare for and allocate resources to resolve them. Proper analysis and management can help avoid wasted time, impeding processes, and frustration.

In past years, Everything- or X-as-a-Service applications have left their mark on the consumer market, changing the landscape of on-demand delivery of goods and services. In recent years, these applications have also gained traction in an industrial context. However, companies are often unable to provide such a service on their own because they lack the necessary data or capabilities. To address this, companies are coming together to be part of larger Data Ecosystems. Based on a case study in industrial laundry, this paper explores the first steps towards a Laundry-Finish-as-a-Service application, focusing on the Information Requirement Concept. Based on Action Design Research as a guiding research process, three small to medium sized enterprises - a manufacturer of textile finishing-machines, a manufacturer of gas burners as well as an industrial laundry - were scientifically accompanied over the course of eight months, with two workshops and several bilateral in-depth sessions. First results are presented and discussed in order to derive design principles for the Information Requirement Concept for a XaaS application in emerging data ecosystems.

the transformation of pseudocode to Python is vital as it enables students to concentrate on the algorithms while not being distracted by the syntax and also is the key stage in software development and computer science education. this research gives a good programmer-design tool for turning pseudocode into Python,the compiler supports basic data types, control structures, loops, and functions which are the main components of the introductory programming courses. It consists of three main components: lexical analysis, syntax analysis, and code generation are the major processes of an interpreter. the implementation seeks to offer a swift and dependable way of the transformation of pseudocode to Python, thereby accelerating software development processes and improving the educational experiences. © 2024 IEEE.

Developers use different means to document the security concerns of their code. Because of all of these opportunities, they may forget where the information is stored, or others may not be aware of it, and leave it unmaintained for so long that it becomes obsolete, if not useless. In this work, we analyzed different sources of code documentation from four large-scale, real-world, open-source projects in an industrial setting to understand where developers report their security concerns. In particular, we manually inspected 2.559 instances taken from source code comments, commit messages, and issue trackers. Overall, we found that developers prefer to document security concerns in source code comments and issue trackers. We also found that the longer the comments stay unfixed, the more likely they remain unfixed. thus, to create awareness among developers, we implemented a pipeline to remind them about the introduction or removal of comments pointing to a security problem.

Most startups operate with limited resources and experience. AI technologies enable them to accomplish many tasks under these constraints. the recent advance of large language models (LLMs) offers new opportunities to support startup endeavors. Given the nascent nature of LLMs, how they could be utilized to support startups is yet to be investigated. Since prompt engineering is believed to be at the core of the effective use of LLMs, we aim to understand how to apply prompt engineering to turn LLMs into AI assistants for startups. As the first step, we investigated the application of a set of prompt patterns to ChatGPT, arguably the most widely known LLM currently. the preliminary results show that some patterns are more suitable for brainstorming which is a typical activity conducted by early-stage startups. Prompt-tuned questions may lead to more specific and more detailed responses, but it is not guaranteed. Meantime, human factors play an important role in the effective application of prompt patterns. Large-size and systematic studies are needed to apply the right patterns to different questions, taking into account the differences among startups in terms of their startup knowledge, domain knowledge, and their attitudes and behaviors towards LLMs.

After the COVID-19 breakout, agile teams found themselves in situations that "pure agilists" and textbooks on agile methods had preferred to ignore. Whereas agile mindsets helped them to quickly shift to remote work, mere virtualization of agile practices often proved insufficient, and several challenges emerged. this paper reports on an Action Research project carried out in Lufthansa Systems Poland with the aim of (1) revisiting their ad-hoc actions to adapt to remote work;and (2) elaborating systematic solutions to maintain efficiency in such a setting. With our assistance, the participating teams found measures to mitigate issues posed by the new work environment. they devised an inter-team communication model to improve the effectiveness of information exchange that had declined in the absence of spontaneous, face-to-face communication. Moreover, they employed several other mitigation strategies, including working at least one day per week in the office, keeping webcams on during online meetings, and recapping meetings at the end of a session. Our study largely supports previous findings indicating that Scrum can be effectively applied beyond its comfort zone but also suggests that for adaptations to be successful and comprehensive, they should be developed in a structured manner.
