In this paper, we present a new hybridization approach consisting of enriching the phrase table of a phrase-based statistical machine translation system with bilingual phrase pairs matching structural transfer rules and dictionary entries from a shallowtransfer rule-based machine translation system. We have tested this approach on different small parallel corpora scenarios, where pure statistical machine translation systems suffer from data sparseness. the results obtained show an improvement in translation quality, specially when translating out-of-domain texts that are well covered by the shallow-transfer rule-based machine translation system we have used.

In this paper we explore computing max-plus algebra operations and discrete event simulations on parallel hierarchal heterogeneous platforms. When performing such tasks on heterogeneous platforms parameters such as the total volume of communication and the top-level data partitioning strategy must be carefully taken into account. Choice of the partitioning strategy is shown to greatly affect the overall performance of these applications due to different volumes of inter-partition communication that various strategies impart on these operations. One partitioning strategy in particular is shown to reduce the execution times of these operations more than other, more traditional strategies. the main goal of this paper is to present benefits waiting to be exploited by the use of max-plus algebra operations on these platforms and thus speeding up more complex and quite common computational topic areas such as discrete event simulation.

A reconfigurable hardware architecture for multiframe frame motion estimation (RMF-ME) is presented in this paper. the proposed architecture can be configured to perform block matching (BM) error computations for 4 reference frames (RF) in parallel. For single reference frame configuration, the RMF-ME can perform concurrent BM computations of 4 macro blocks (MB) to support high motion vector (MV) throughput. the BM engine of the RMF-ME performs error computations on the luminance and the chrominance components of the pixel data in order to get accurate motion trajectories. FPGA implementation results show the RMF-ME circuit supports 1080P video at 123 frames per second (fps). Simulation and hardware implementation results of the RMF-ME design demonstrate that the proposed architecture is well suited for high resolution, high quality, and high throughput video applications.

For this reason, parallelization is an interesting alternative in order to decrease the execution time and to provide accurate results. In this sense, recently there has been a growing interest in developing parallelalgorithms using graphic processing units (GPU) also refered as GPU computation. Advances in the video gaming industry have led to the production of low-cost, high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) that possess more memory bandwidth and computational capability than central processing units (CPUs). As GPUs are available in personal computers, and they are easy to use and manage through several GPU programming languages (CUDA, OpenCL, etc.), graphics engines are being adopted widely in scientific computing applications, particularly in the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics. this paper reviews the use of GPUs to solve scientific problems, giving an overview of current software systems.
