In this paper, an improved parallel algorithm of vascular network modeling is presented. the new solution is based on a more decentralized approach. Moreover, in order to accelerate the simulation of vascular growth process boththe dynamic;load balancing and periodic rebuildings of vascular trees were introduced. the presented method was implemented On a computing cluster withthe use of the MPI standard. the experimental results show that the improved algorithm results in better speedup thus making it possible to introduce more physiological details and also perform simulations with a greater number of vessels and cells. Furthermore, the presented approach can bring the model closer to reality where the analogous vascular processes can be also parallel.

Smart hand prosthesis control, based on myoelectric signals, strongly depends on signal processingalgorithms. this kind of application field forces specific requirements on computational complexity (for dexterity of prosthesis), processing speed (for fast reaction) and size (for portability). the paper presents a concept of reduction of DFT information extracted from EMG signals. Signals are acquisited from 8 channels with 1 kHz sampling frequency. Specialized digital hardware is proposed, capable of parallelprocessing of series of signals. the design was implemented in VHDL, verified and synthesized for FPGA. In-house developed floating point arithmetic was applied. Satisfying processing speed was obtained for implementation technique that enable embedding in prosthesis.

We present a new theoretical framework for multidimensional image processing using Clifford algebras. the aim of the paper is to detect edges by computing the first fundamental form of a surface associated to an image. We propose to construct this metric in the Clifford bundles setting. A nD image, i.e. an image of dimension n, is considered as a section of a trivial Clifford bundle (CT(D), (pi) over tilde, D) over the domain D of the image and with fiber Cl(R-n, parallel to parallel to 2). Due to the triviality, any connection del(1) on the given bundle is the sum of the trivial connection (del) over tilde (0) with omega a 1-form on D with values in End(CT(D)). We show that varying omega and derivating well-chosen sections with respect to del(1) provides all the information needed to perform various kind of segmentation. We present several illustrations of our results, dealing with color (n=3) and color/infrared (n=4) images. As an example, let us mention the problem of detecting regions of a given color with constraints on temperature;the segmentation results from the computation of del(1)(I) = (del) over tilde (0)(I)+(dx + dy) circle times mu I, where I is the image section and mu is a vector section coding the given color.

Numerical modeling of 3D thermomechanical problems is a complex and time-consuming issue. Adaptive techniques are powerful tools to perform efficiently such modeling using the FEM analysis. During the adaptation computational workloads change unpredictably at the runtime, therefore dynamic load balancing is required. this paper presents new developments in the parallel FIFA package NuscaS;they allow for extending its functionality and increasing performance. In particular, by including dynamic load balancing capabilities, this package allows us to solve efficiently adaptive FEM problems with 3D unstructured meshes on distributed-memory parallel computers such as PC-clusters. For solving sparse systems of equations, NuscaS uses the message-passing paradigm to implement the PCG iterative method with geometric multigrid as a preconditioner. the implementation of load balancing is based on the proposed performance model.
