this paper presents two methods for solving a partial differential equation of the second order, with application to the well-known Poisson equation. these methods are aimed at making a high-speed hardware solver. the solutions presented will be a part of a hardware device simulator which is called "Virtual Device". We present simulation results to compare the two methods for solving this equation. We start with an iterative method (Gauss-Seidel method) and then end with a direct method (LU method).

the graph coloring problem, a fundamental NP-hard challenge, has numerous applications in scheduling, register allocation, and network optimization. Traditional sequential algorithms for graph coloring are computationally expensive, particularly for large-scale graphs. In this paper, we propose the parallel BitColor Algorithm (PBitCo), an extension of the BitColor framework, designed to exploit the parallel processing capabilities of modern CPU and GPU architectures. the PBitCo algorithm utilizes bitwise operations to reduce computation time and employs parallel execution on widely accessible platforms to further enhance performance. We implemented and tested the algorithm on various graph instances, comparing its performance against conventional graph coloring methods. Our results demonstrate that PBitCo achieves significant speedups, with the GPU implementation delivering up to a 10x improvement over baseline methods.

One of the major drawbacks to using speech as the input to any pervasive environment is the requirement to balance accuracy with the high processing overheads involved. this paper presents an Arabic speech recognition system (called UbiqRec), which address this issue by providing a natural and intuitive way of communicating within ubiquitous environments, while balancing processing time, memory and recognition accuracy. A hybrid approach has been used which incorporates spectrographic information, singular value decomposition, concurrent self-organizing maps (CSOM) and pitch contours for Arabic phoneme recognition. the approach employs separate self-organizing maps (SOM) for each Arabic phoneme joined in parallel to form a CSOM. the performance results confirm that with suitable preprocessing of data, including extraction of distinct power spectral densities (PSD) and singular value decomposition, the training time for CSOM was reduced by 89%. the empirical results also proved that overall recognition accuracy did not fall below 91%.

this paper deals with DPP(Differential Power processing) converter architecture for partial shading MPPT and cell balancing operation of the Photovoltaic systems using a couple of dc-dc converter topology. As the interest in solar systems evolves, various architectures of Power Conditioning System (PCS) have been studied. Among the conventional architectures, there are two-stage multi-level micro-inverter which is required DC-link voltages balancing between high-side and low-side capacitors for the second-stage multilevel inverter.[2] In this paper, a new architecture employing a DPP converter to the two-stage multi-level inverter is proposed. the proposed architecture consists of a central boost converter and DPP converters of multi-output flyback, converters. If there is no power difference between the solar modules, most of the power passes through the boost converter except the power to maintain the DC-link voltage balancing under CCM mode in the flyback converters. When the power difference occurs, remaining power passes through the boost converter while the differential power is transmitted through the flyback converters. Since the common current among the PV modules at each MPPT operating point is transmitted through the high-efficiency central boost converter, the total conversion efficiency is high. For the verification of this advantage of the proposed scheme, a 150W hardware prototype of the DPP is implemented and tested along with a comparison to a multi-output flyback converter scheme presented in previous studies.

While GPU is becoming a compelling acceleration solution for a series of scientific applications, most existing work on climate models only achieved limited speedup. this is due to partial porting of the huge code and the memory bound inherence of these models. In this work, we design and implement a customized GPU-based acceleration of the Princeton Ocean Model (gpuPOM) based on mpiPOM, which is one of the parallel versions of the Princeton Ocean Model. Based on Nvidia's state-of-the-art GPU architectures (K20X and K40m), we rewrite the full mpiPOM model from the original Fortran version into the CUDA-C version. We present the GPU acceleration methods used in the gpuPOM, especially the techniques to ease its memory bound problem through better use of GPU's memory hierarchy. the experimental results indicate that the gpuPOM with one K40m GPU achieves from 6.3-fold to 16.7-fold speedup over different Intel multi-core CPUs and one K20X GPU achieves from 5.8-fold to 15.5-fold speedup.

Growing bandwidth demand in the Internet requires new algorithms and architectures to provide a high degree of QoS. Further, to complicate the problem of Traffic Engineering, real time data processing requires more priority than non-real time data processing. In this paper, we present an effective solution for improving QoS of audio and video packets in MPLS networks under real time traffic conditions. the contribution of this work is two fold. First, we investigate the impact of increased traffic on QoS parameters under heavy loading conditions and further we propose an efficient routing mechanism based on active networking concepts [1] to satisfy QoS requirements of audio and video packets.

GPU hardware architectures have evolved into a suitable platform for the hardware acceleration of complex computing tasks. Stereo vision is one such task where acceleration is desirable for robotic and automotive systems. Much research was invested in developing stereo vision algorithms with increased quality, but real-time implementations are still lacking. In this work we focus on creating a real-time dense stereo reconstruction system. We selected the Semi-global Matching method as the basis of our system due to its high quality and reduced computational complexity. the Census transform is selected as the matching metric because our results show that it can reduce the matching errors for traffic images compared to classical solutions. We also present two modifications to the original Semi-Global algorithm to improve the sub-pixel accuracy and the execution time. the system was implemented and evaluated on a current generation GPU with a running time of 19ms for image having the resolution 512×383.

this paper addresses the computational cost of the normalized cross-correlation (NCC) algorithm in ultrasound elastography. parallel implementations of the NCC algorithm based on multicore architectures and a graphical processor unit (GPU) are formulated and applied to radio-frequency (RF) data from dynamic elastography experiments. Compared to single computer processor unit (CPU) performances, results show that parallel implementation of the NCC algorithm allows speedups of less than 5 for multi-threaded execution on CPU and up to 85 using a GPU. processing frame rates from 80 to 173 sec -1 have been achieved for large fields of view with good spatial resolution. the trade-off between accuracy, spatial resolution and computational cost in displacement estimation using the NCC algorithm therefore appears obsolete. Open source codes for implementing the NCC algorithm on GPU are made available at ***.

the emergence of the new standard HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is accompanied with serious problems related to resource consumption and encoding time. the proposal of new tools and optimizations is strongly recommended to ensure the integration of this new encoder in various platforms and multimedia applications. In this context, Kvazaar HEVC encoder is introduced to overcome the problems related to HEVC test model (HM) reference software. this academic open-source is tailored to fit the programmer's needs by enabling high-level parallel processing. In this context, this paper presents different parallel implementations of the Kvazaar HEVC encoder on a powerful Octa-core CubieBoard4 platform including two quad-core ARM A7 and ARM A15 for efficient power and high performance in a single chip. A performance comparison of different parallelization strategies is performed. For single-threaded implementation, experimental results show that the high speed preset (RD1) can save up to 48% and 91% of encoding time for Random Access (RA) and All-Intra (AI) configurations respectively. When moving to multi-threaded implementation, time saving is about 65% to 75% for AI configuration. Moreover, experiments show that Wavefront parallel processing (WPP) outperforms tiles-level parallelization in terms of encoding speed without inducing video quality degradation or bitrate increase.

there is a growing demand for live, on-the-fly processing of increasingly large amounts of data. In order to ensure the timely and reliable processing of streaming data, a variety of distributed stream processing architectures and platforms have been developed, which handle the fundamental tasks of (dynamically) assigning processing tasks to the currently available physical resources and routing streaming data between these resources. However, while there are plenty of platforms offering such functionality, the theory behind it is not well understood. In particular, it is unclear how to best allocate the processing tasks to the given resources. In this paper, we establish a theoretical foundation by formally defining a task allocation problem for distributed stream processing, which we prove to be NP-hard. Furthermore, we propose an approximation algorithm for the class of series-parallel decomposable graphs, which captures a broad range of common stream processing applications. the algorithm achieves a constant-factor approximation under the assumptions that the number of resources scales at least logarithmically with the number of computational tasks and the computational cost of the tasks dominates the cost of communication.
