A study of the behavior of the head movements linked to the visual fixations in girls and boys was carried out while tracking a 2D pattern. With this in mind we reach to formulate the question: Do the boys and girls make different trajectories following a pattern? the purpose of this article is answer this question and help to understand this subject. thus, in this paper a head-tracking device was developed based on the use of hardware and software capable of illustrating head tracking movements and visual fixations within two patterns with 40 infants (16 boys and 24 girls) for one pattern and 21 infants (8 boys and 13 girls) with ages between 4 and 13 years old, following the ethic code of the declaration of Helsinki. the individual used dark glasses with a pinhole to follow the pattern. A 3-axis accelerometer (X, Y, Z) was attached to a harness on the head, which detects movements of the head in tracing an image and then allows capture the information using a Labview interface. Differences in patterns follow-up between genders were quantified. the multifactorial origin of spatial skills made us wonder if we could observe variances in head movements in boys and girls while tracking a pattern. the results show that the trajectories changed for each individual and also the distance of fixations for each gender varied using a specific 2D pattern. the study shows that the fixation tended to be homogeneous in the center, but changed on the edges of both images. the register suggested that the way that boys and girls follow a pattern is different. the average of the relationships of the distances of the fixations in the girls is a little higher;making us to recognize the fact that girls had a higher average distance for fixation than boys in both cases. Besides, it is shown the tracking and the visual fixations. © 2019 IEEE.

Prefix-tree based FP-growth algorithm is a two step process: construction of frequent pattern tree (FP-tree) and then generates the frequent patterns from the tree. After constructing the FP-tree, if we merely use the conditional FP-trees (CFP-tree) to generate the patterns of frequent items, we may encounter the problem of recursive CFP-tree construction and a huge number of redundant itemset generation. Which also leads to huge search space and massive memory requirement. In this paper, we have proposed a new data structure layout called Modified Conditional FP-tree (MCFP-tree). Moreover, we have proposed a new pattern growth algorithm called Modified FP-Growth (MFP-Growth), which uses both top-down and bottom-up approaches to efficiently generate the frequent patterns without recursively constructing the MCFP-tree. During mining phase only one MCFP-tree is maintained in main memory at any instance and immediately deleted or discarded from the memory after performing the mining. From the experimental analysis, it is noticed that the proposed MFP-Growth algorithm requires less memory to construct the MCFP-tree as compared to conditional FP-tree. Moreover, the execution of the MFP-Growth method is found significantly faster than the traditional FP-Growth as it does not generate redundant patterns.

the evolution of technology has been made to bring the most benefits to human-being on communication and to facilitate their day-to-day activities. Technologies contribution, such as mobile application, has been proved to have a high capability to cater to the needs of a person with disabilities. the usage of smartphone is limited for visually impaired(VI) community as most of the currently available mobile application are not user-friendly for people with vision disability. Although smartphones nowadays are offering accessibility services such as TalkBack for Android and VoiceOver for iOS, these accessibilities provide fewer functions on navigating the VI community. A speech interface system(SIS) in mobile application combined with object and distance detection could help the VI community to navigate to their destination only with the use of a smartphone. this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) provide our findings on the present study of speech recognition projects and the requirement issues of speech recognition in mobile application platform throughout supporting VI people. three journal databases (Google Scholar, IEEE Explore and Science Direct) has been searching throughout this SLR with articles ranging from the year of 2013-2019. A result of 136 article titles, abstracts of 73 articles were examined, 35 full-text articles were selected for final review. A total of 19 articles are analyzed. the purpose of the SLR is to collect the technique, evaluation methods and the validation of the projects.

Continuous emotion recognition is a challenging task due to its difficulty in modeling long-term contexts dependencies. Prior researches have exploited emotional temporal contexts from two perspectives, which are based on feature representations and emotional models. In this paper, we explore the model based approaches for continuous emotion recognition. Specifically, three temporal models including LSTM, TDNN and multi-head attention models are utilized to learn long-term contexts dependencies based on short-term feature representations. the temporal information learned by the temporal models allows the network to more easily exploit the slow changing dynamics between emotional states. Our experimental results demonstrate that the temporal models can model emotional long-term dynamic information effectively. Multi-head attention model achieves best performance among three models and multi-model combination models further improve the performance of continuous emotion recognition significantly.

A skeletal representation of geometrical objects is widely used in computer graphics, computer vision, image processing, and pattern recognition. therefore, efficient algorithms for computing planar skeletons are of high relevance. In this paper, we focus on the algorithm for computing the Voronoi skeleton of a planar object represented by a set of polygons. the complexity of the considered algorithm is O(N log N), where N is the total number of polygon's vertices. In order to improve the performance of the skeletonization algorithm, we proposed theoretically justified shape optimization heuristics, which are based on polygon simplification algorithms. We evaluated the efficiency of such heuristics using polygons extracted from MPEG 7 CE-Shape-1 dataset and measured the execution time of the skeletonization algorithm, computational overheads related to the introduced heuristics and the influence of the heuristic onto the accuracy of the resulting skeleton. As a result, we established the criteria allowing us to choose the optimal heuristics for Voronoi skeleton construction algorithm depending on the critical system's requirements.

Nowadays, mobile applications or also known as mobile apps are one of the most important sources of communication and gives a lot of benefits to a person. Mobile technology advancements have brought an excessive change in people's daily lifestyles which has led to high demand for developing software that can give benefit to a person that runs on a mobile device. Mobile apps are represented visually on a smartphone, which it is not user-friendly for visually impaired people. the number of visually impaired people are growing in each of the countries in the world. Most technologies are being developed to help people with visual impairment because they still have difficulties in using assistive technologies. this systematic literature review attempts to provide findings on the project for visually impaired people to recognize objects using their smartphones. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was used to collect and review the current state of analysis concerning object recognition for visually impaired people on mobile platforms. Overall, this research covered articles published in three databases which are ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore and Google Scholar and the articles selected are between 2013 until 2019. this paper is based on the Kitchenham methodology where the keyword search and exclusion criteria to select the articles about the topic were used. After reading the total of 371 titles of articles based on keywords, 323 abstracts were examined thoroughly. then, 21 full-text articles were chosen for the final review. the findings show the techniques, tools used and methods on how the system was implemented to recognize object.

In local pattern based feature extraction, usually the raw spatial image provides limited information about the relationship between the pixels in a local neighborhood. A few recent methods address this issue by first filtering the images with bag of filters and then calculating local pattern over each filtered images. It is observed that the filtered images complement the discriminativeness of local pattern based features which enhances retrieval efficiency. Motivated by these approaches, a new approach based on multiple filters and decoded sparse local binary pattern (MF-DLBP) is proposed in this paper, wherein we first filter the raw spatial image with multiple filters to extract the low frequency and high frequency information. However, unlike previous approaches, we extract features from low pass and high pass filtered images adopting separate strategies, since characteristically they contain contrasting information. From each gradient filtered images, we compute sparse LBPs using LBP4hv (considering only horizontal and vertical neighbors) and LBP4d (considering only diagonal neighbors) techniques. To enhance the discriminativeness of the descriptor, two decoders are also used which compute the inter frequency relationship between the sparse local binary pattern maps of high pass filtered images only. the low pass filtered image is encoded with sign LBP (LBP S) and magnitude LBP (LBP M) to extract sign as well as magnitude information present in this image. the proposed approach is low dimensional and it shows highly competitive retrieval performance when tested on three benchmark texture databases which are Kylberg, Brodatz and STex.

In this paper, we introduce a system that integrates activity recognition, which collects various activities of the elderly people of a nursing care facility in Japan. this system incorporates various activity levels, sensor data through smartphones, and records by nurses for a period of 4 months. there are 28 activity labels, recorded by a number of staffs/nurses. the system architecture has mobile application to encode data and a networked system in the 6-floored facility, covering a number of residents. the system is designed in such a manner that even a non-expert nurse or user can manage this system. After introducing the entire system and data collection procedure, we recognized the acitivities by exploiting some statistical features and Extremely Randomized Tree. We noticed that there are discrepancies between start and end recording time-stamps. therefore, we explored a time correction technique. the dataset is an extensive one and it can be explored for various activity recognition in smart-homes or elder care facilities. the dataset includes the sensor data from staffs' smartphones, activity labels, and care details input using the system.
