Data encryption is gaining much attention these days from the research community and industry for transmitting secure information over access networks, i.e. `fiber-to-the-home (FTth)' networks and data centers. It is important that the newly designed encrypted networks are fully functional, reconfigurable, compatible, flexible and scalable with the existing deployed optical fiber networks around the globe. the prime benefit of having FTth networks is the optical end-to-end data encryption that can best be implemented by quantum-keydistribution (QKD) protocols using state-of-the-art telecommunication components, i.e. continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD). In this paper, we numerically investigate the quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) based CV-QKD network that is compatible with the next generation (NG) services such as point-to-point (P2P) transmission and multicast overlay (MCO) traffic for audio/video signalling. We have further investigated the performance of quantum signals on multi-user fibers by emulating 7-, 12- and 19-core multi-core fibers (MCF). 100 Mbits/s secure key rates (SKRs) can be generated for inter-core crosstalk (XT) values of

the rapid progress of cloud technology has attracted a growing number of video providers to deploy their streaming services onto multiple distributed datacenters for more cost-effective performance. the emerging Software-Defined networking (SDN) technology overcomes the limitation of the existing network and provides a promising solution to manage the underlying network. In this paper, we introduce an SDN-enabled cloud video distribution architecture and propose a joint resource allocation and traffic management mechanism to improve user experience and reduce the system operational cost. We use a delay utility function to represent user experience and formulate the joint optimization problem as a convex optimization problem. We conduct simulations to evaluate the performance of our algorithm and the results show that our strategy can effectively cut down the total cost and guarantee user experience.

A number of challenges are facing the design of secure datacenter environments, such as applications high throughput requirements, low latency applications, scalability, ability to detect Advanced Persistent threats (APT), bring your own device (BYOD), and protection against distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks. Software Defined networking (SDN) is an emerging paradigm that provides flexibility to Datacenter network design. In this paper, a framework is presented to enhance security in SDN-based datacenters. SDN features are leveraged to integrate network layer with security middleboxes such as intrusion prevention system (IPS) or Firewall (FW) to block attackers at the network edge. A proof of concept is designed and implemented using Citrix Xenservers and Mininet emulation software where a typical datacenter fat-tree topology is adopted. Performance evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed framework provides an adaptive self-defending network able to protect running services and defend against internal threats while reducing attack response time.

we show that a layered architecture distributing M2M application to multiple processing entities in the M2M network is applicable for ubiquitous era. this paper firstly introduces a layered architecture of M2M system, where we put layers for the decomposition of application and the association of de-composited subroutines. Next, we categorize the association of subroutines into two patterns (sequential and random order), and model schemes on state managements (centralization and distribution). then, we clarify the condition that the performance can be improved by distributed management in terms of processing time for two association patterns. Next, the deployment of de-composited subroutines on processing entities is discussed, where we show basic rules to reduce carried traffic. Finally, we address the requirements of messaging between two processing entities in M2M network to provide QoS such as time limitation.

Disaster area map generation and sharing are critical to disaster response operations. In post-disaster contexts however, cloud-based mapping services and data may be unavailable because of network challenges. Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) architectures have been proposed for data sharing in challenged networks. However, map generation may be too complex for individual DTN nodes given their limited computing resources. To generate and share maps of disaster areas, we present DTN MapEx, a distributed computing system for mapping that operates over a DTN. DTN MapEx distributes disaster map data and map generation tasks to multiple nodes to minimize individual computational loads. In the system, responders and volunteers act as mobile sensing nodes. they log the GPS traces of their traversed paths and collect disaster area map data such as the coordinates, images, and assessments of points-of-interest. the mobile nodes then route their collected data and a task request through the DTN to pre-deployed, fixed computing Nodes. the computing Nodes aggregate the data to generate a map and opportunistically route it back to the network. To reduce complexity, mapping tasks and data are divided amongst computing Nodes based on their current computational load. computing Nodes periodically update the DTN about their current loads. Mobile nodes use these updates in deciding where to allocate their task requests and data. In this paper, we present the design of DTN MapEx and perform initial evaluations on its feasibility in disaster scenarios.

Modern research and education networks need to solve two major tasks: (1) providing seamless access to their users, and (2) support new scientific and collaborative applications that are becoming increasingly complex and dynamic in their scale, use of distributed resources, and required advanced networking services. Rapid deployment and automation of new network services provisioning is becoming difficult in large networks that incorporate different technologies and solutions. the task of providing seamless user experience in typically mobile and dynamically changing collaborative groups generates additional burdens for the configuration phases included in network provisioning. By introducing automation and enabling multipoint auto configuration of network devices, the Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) concept emerges as a possible alleviation of the complex network provisioning and infrastructure services deployment process. this paper investigates the characteristics of the ZTP model and discovers how ZTP can be used in order to enhance the services provided by the GEANT network and its associated National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to the European research and education community. the future solution can be achieved by combining and enriching the existing provisioning models, solutions and practices available from different domains such as wireless networks, (complex) network management and operations services, and cloud based infrastructure services provisioning.

As a disruptive technology, Network Virtualization plays an increasingly important role in Cloud computing by allowing multiple heterogeneous virtual networks to run on a shared infrastructure as independent slices. However, it is a big challenge to map multiple virtual networks onto specific nodes and links in the shared substrate network, known as the Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) problem. Most existing solutions are provided in a centralized way, which may have hot spot problem. In this paper, by leveraging the learning and inference technology, a novel VNE algorithm is proposed to achieve the embedding in a distributed way. Instead of flooding, Bloom Filter is introduced to synchronize the mapping information, without generating massive communication overhead. the results of comparison between existing algorithms and the proposed algorithm show that our distributed algorithm has acceptable, even better performance in terms of long-term average revenue and acceptance ratio.
