Wireless low-power embedded devices are populating indoor environments, where everyday activities drastically impact communication. We explore a statistical approach to identify changes to the communication links state during system operation. the long-term behavior of the link RSSI is modeled with a normal distribution and compared against the model of the most recent measurements. A Welch's t-Test is then employed to identify whether the short-term and longterm link evolutions stem from the same distribution. Upon significant divergence, the long-term model is updated and a significant change in the underlying communication state is inferred. We investigate this technique to efficiently store a compressed fingerprint of the evolution of communication. Considering the memory constraints of low-power embedded systems, this approach allows to gather extensive information on the behavior of communication directly from the deployed network. this fingerprint could then be used to replay the network dynamics in simulation. We implemented the introduced techniques to prove their feasibility. In controlled experiments, we evaluate the reactivity and sensitivity of the approach to changes in the environment, as well as the accuracy of the resulting channel fingerprint. Copyright 2013 ACM.

Workflow systems play an important role in the analysis of the fast-growing genomics data produced by low-cost next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. Many biomedical research groups lack the expertise to assemble and run the sophisticated computational pipelines required for high-throughput analysis of such data. there is an urgent need for services that can allow researchers to run their analytical workflows where they can define their own research methodologies by selecting the tools of their interest. We present the challenges associated with managing multiple Galaxy instances on the cloud for various research groups using Globus Genomics, a cloud based platform-as-aservice (PaaS) that provides the Galaxy workflow system as a hosted service along with data management capabilities using Globus Online. We address the unique challenges, our strategy, and a tool for automatically deploying and managing hundreds of analytical tools coming from the public Galaxy Tool Shed, new tools wrapped by our group, and tools wrapped by end users across multiple Galaxy instances hosted with Globus Genomics.

Wireless location has received increasing attention in the last decade, and the introduction of distributed multi-antenna in 4G system has brought in extra information for high accuracy location. In this paper, a novel antenna selection algorithm in distributed multi-antenna system is proposed. By analyzing the least square error of TDOA location method and its relationship with locations of antennas utilized, factors are designed to indicate this relationship, and then we can find the most proper antennas to locate the MS. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna selection algorithm outperforms the traditional methods, which indicates our antenna selection algorithm can be applied in distributed multi-antenna systems effectively.

In this paper, we extended the conventional space-time block-codes single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (STBC SC-FDE) to distributed STBC SC-FDE for practical implementation of cooperative networks. We proposed a SC-FDE transmission scheme over frequency-selective fading channels for distributed STBC cooperative network with amplify-and-forward relaying. We showed that the order-two spatial diversity gain achieved by this distributed STBC SC-FDE scheme. Linear receiver processing collects full spatial diversity, while the overall receiver complexity remains comparable to that of conventional without-relay-assisted transmissions over frequency-selective channels. Simulation results were also provided to validate the distributed STBC SC-FDE scheme.

A huge amount of data is everyday produced, even in many critical business sectors, in a distributed, collaborative way withthe support of spreadsheet applications. the manual fusion of such data often yields errors: copy-paste operations, loss of alignment and coherency due to multiple spreadsheet copies or broken cross-spreadsheet links. these problems are partially addressed by two of the principal software platforms for collaboration: Microsoft SharePoint and Google Docs. After describing features and tools of the two platforms specifically designed for spreadsheet collaboration, pointing out differences and limitations, we propose SpreadComp, a spreadsheet composition platform based on three new collaboration patterns which span users and data interaction from the simplest flat scenario to more structured and hierarchical ones. We discuss the positioning of our collaboration patterns with respect to the analyzed existing approaches and we present the SpreadComp architecture and its prototype implementation.
