Social media represents a substantially new way of communicating with customers. Whereas marketers used to spread their messages without receiving any direct feedback or reactions, customers now have the possibility to instantly reply to companies' communication efforts. Adapting to altered communication patterns poses a huge challenge especially for premium brands. On social media, premium brands are not anymore able to entirely rely on their huge marketing budgets but rather need to embrace and utilize newly emerged communication approaches. this study examines a sample of 1156 car brand posts of US Facebook pages and reveals that premium brands possess specific characteristics in their communication strategy. Our findings offer valuable insights into marketing communication activities of premium brands on social media sites.

Fog/Edge computing infrastructures have been proposed as an alternative of current Cloud computing facilities to address the latency issue that prevents the development of several applications. the main idea is to deploy smaller datacenters at the edge of the backbone in order to bring Cloud computing resources closer to the end-usages. While couple of works illustrated the advantages of such infrastructures in particular for the Internet of things (IoT) applications, the way of designing elementary services that can take advantage of such massively distributed infrastructures has not been yet discussed. In this paper, we propose to deal with such a question from the storage point of view. First, we propose a list of properties a storage system should meet in this context. Second, we evaluate through performance analysis three "off-the-shelf" object store solutions, namely Rados, Cassandra and InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). In particular, we focused (i) on access times to push and get objects under different scenarios and (ii) on the amount of network traffic that is exchanged between the different sites during such operations. Experiments have been conducted using the Yahoo Cloud System Benchmark (YCSB) on top of the Grid' 5000 testbed. We show that among the three tested solutions IPFS fills most of the criteria expected for a Fog/Edge computing infrastructure.

Withthe growing air traffic demand and limited air traffic infrastructures, the airport is becoming the bottleneck of the whole air traffic flow management system and the air traffic flow management at airport has been a hot issue for a few years. In this paper, we for the first time model the ATC-TCA problem as a distributed constraint optimization problem and solve it with both complete and incomplete DCOP algorithms. Simulation results verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach.

Compared with traditional seals, the electronic seal is easier to use and at lower costs. this paper presents the solution of the electronic seal in electronic contract/document signatures. the system is based on cloud computing, PKI/CA and serial number, which can fuse the direct-vision of an electronic seal system with security of a digital signature. Finally the paper analyzes and verifies the security problems of the electronic seal system such as secrecy, integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation.

MCU resource pool is the key technology of the current video conference systems. By enabling flexible and efficient allocation of MCU ports, it greatly improves the reliability of video conference system, and has been widely used in large-scale enterprises. this paper describes the MCU resource pool scheduling strategy in State Grid Corporation, analyzes the key factors of the system, and proposed a quasi-dynamic video conference resource backup strategy optimization method, which can dynamically adapt to changes in the network delay and MCU resources.

In nowadays cloud computing systems, leveraging the virtualization technology, the customer's requested data computing or storing service is accommodated by a set of mutual-communicated Virtual Machines (VM) in a scalable and elastic manner. these VMs are placed in one or more datacenter nodes according to nodes' capacities, failure probabilities, etc. the VM placement availability refers to the probability that at least one set of the whole customer's requested VMs operates during the entire requested lifetime. the placed VMs should obey the agreed-upon availability, otherwise the cloud provider may face revenue loss. In this paper, we study the problem of placing at most H sets of k requested VMs on minimum number of datacenter nodes, such that the VM placement availability requirement is satisfied and each VM pair has a communication delay no greater than the specified. We prove that this problem is NP-hard. We subsequently propose an exact Integer Nonlinear Program (INLP) and an efficient heuristic to solve this problem. Finally, we conduct simulations to compare the proposed algorithms with two existing heuristics in terms of acceptance ratio, average number of used nodes and running time.

Almost all modern online services run on geodistributed data centers, and fault tolerance is one of the primary requirement that decides the revenue of the service provider. Recent experiences have shown that the failure of a data center (at a site) is inevitable. In order to mask the failure, spare compute capacity needs to be provisioned across the distributed data center, which leads to additional cost. While the existing literature addresses the capacity provisioning problem only to minimize the number of servers, we argue that the operating cost needs to be considered as well. Since the operating cost and client demand vary both across space and time, we consider cost-aware capacity provisioning to account for their impact on the operating cost of data centers. We propose an optimization framework to minimize the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the cloud provider while designing fault-tolerant geo-distributed data centers. We model the variation in the demand, fluctuation of electricity price and carbon tax across different countries, and delay constraints while computingthe spare capacity. On solving the proposed optimization model using real world data, we notice a saving in the TCO (that includes cost of servers and operating cost) of about 17% compared to the model that only minimizes the number of extra servers. Results also highlight the relationship of power usage effectiveness (PUE), over-provisioning for fault tolerance, choice of data center locations, and latency requirements on the TCO. In particular, we notice that the approach of minimizing TCO is beneficial when the electricity prices vary significantly and the PUE is high, which appears to be the case with most of the cloud providers.

the centrality metrics such as Closeness and Betweenness in Online Social Network (OSN) determine how much end-to-end delay and queue-load of a node can have as a source or as a destination through Social Routing. Experimentally, we find that nodes with high Out-Closeness centrality in OSN suffer from high end-to-end delay as a target, but not as a source. We show that the cause of this end-to-end delay is that most nodes with high Out-Closeness centrality have low In-Closeness centrality. Moreover, we show that the increase in the local In-Degree centrality will increase the global In-Closeness centrality. We also find that the promised level to increase the In-Closeness centrality of a node is its Friends of Friends-Of-Friends (Level-3). An agent-based Model for Social Routing is proposed and a set of large-scale Google+ Graphs are used. A simulation study is also completed by propagating a set of requests in different societies with different routing schemes and diverse queue disciplines, in order to compare the average end-to-end delays from the source and target perspectives.
