Cloud providers aim to efficiently deliver diverse services on demand to users. Recently, they coined the idea of an auction-based market for their resources with the goal of increasing the total revenues. To address the challenge of scheduling and pricing, we build usage profiles for cloud workloads and predict future demands. In this paper, we first present a new methodology to categorize workloads according to their resource usage. We employ a modified hierarchical clustering algorithm that gives us three demand profiles for batch jobs designated as low, medium and high. After that, we extract the number of arrival requests per time for each group. the methodology presented here provides insights to cloud service providers in optimizing resource allocation and improving profits.

this paper proposes a framework where Customer Premises Equipments (CPEs) are dynamically instantiated, by leveraging Software Defined networking (SDN) and Network Function Vitualisation (NFV), in the cloud as a chain of containerised virtual network functions (VNFs). Resulting virtual CPE instances (i.e., vCPEs) are organised in clusters and a Management and Orchestrator (MANO) entity is used to monitor the cluster and to migrate vCPEs among the nodes composing the cluster as required for ensuring the load balancing of the resources of the cluster. During the vCPEs migration process, the data-path is dynamically updated via SDN mechanisms. A proof of concept prototype of the framework was developed and evaluated in an experimental testbed, showcasing its feasibility and a near-zero downtime while migration is taking place.

Fast, reliable, and efficient data transfer across wide-area networks is a predominant bottleneck for data-intensive cloud applications. this paper introduces OneDataShare, which is designed to eliminate the issues plaguing effective cloud-based data transfers of varying file sizes and across incompatible transfer end-points. the vision of OneDataShare is to achieve high-speed data transfer, interoperability between multiple transfer protocols, and accurate estimation of delivery time for advance planning, thereby maximizing user-profit through improved and faster data analysis for business intelligence. the paper elaborates on the desirable features of OneDataShare as a cloud-hosted data transfer scheduling and optimization service, and how it is aligned with the vision of harnessing the power of the cloud and distributed computing. Experimental evaluation and comparison with existing real-life file transfer services show that the transfer throughout achieved by OneDataShare is up to 6.5 times greater compared to other approaches.

Recently, it is more and more difficult to make a decision because we receive a large amount of information through the Internet every day. therefore, the recommender system becomes more and more popular. It can help users making decisions effectively by providing suitable suggestions to users, and those suggestions were processed according to users' browsing history and transaction. therefore, the development of the recommender system in this research is based on cloud platform and focuses on providing location-based search and intelligent recommendation for resource objects. First, we will automatically through the pre-processing process, crawler technology and APIs provided by social networking sites, and use these data descriptions to enhance data search with correctness. Moreover, we design and build an integrated tourism augmented reality navigation system with recommendation technology and dynamic route planning which covers all tourism activities. the service also provided various valued-added services, such as wikitude Augmented Reality, subject guidance including POI, LOI and SOI, and stored trajectory path of users. therefore, the user may have a story-based touring guidance while surfing the cultural and historic contents in advance.

the capacity to efficiently manage the whole set of resources from the edge up to the cloud paves the way to a new landscape of innovative opportunities for all involved actors, be it on the research or industrial sides. Fog-to-Cloud (F2C) has been recently proposed as a management solution particularly tailored to manage the stack of resources from the edge up to the cloud in a coordinated way. However, beyond the benefits brought by considering all the spectrum of resources to run a service, resilience, as a concept must be reflected in the F2C design. In this paper, we address a particular scenario where a specific node failure in the F2C architecture will substantially impact on the whole system performance, and analyse three tentative strategies to efficiently manage such scenario.

distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) has been one of the biggest threats in the field of network security and a big problem to many researchers and large enterprises for years. In SDN, traditional DDoS attack detection mechanisms are mostly based on intermediate plug-ins or SDN controllers, most of which have problems of large southbound communication overhead, detection delay or lacking network-wide monitoring information. In this paper, we propose a cross-plane cooperative DDoS defense system (CPCS) under the architecture of SDN, which filters abnormal traffic through coarse-grained detection on the data plane and fine-grained detection on the control plane. On the data plane, a preliminary screening is performed to reduce the detection range of the control plane, and the K-means clustering algorithm is used to perform fine-grained analysis of traffic on the control plane. In addition, an anti-false positive module is added ingeniously. the proposed method captures the key characteristics of DDoS attack traffic by polling the value of counters in OpenFlow switches which leverages the computational power of OpenFlow switches that currently not fully utilized. We conducted experiments on a campus network center including OpenFlow switches and RYU controllers. the results show that the framework and traffic monitoring algorithms proposed in this paper can greatly improve detection efficiency and accuracy, and reduce detection delay and southbound communication overhead. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the era of cloud services, there is a strong desire to improve the elasticity and reliability of applications in the cloud. the standard way of achieving these goals is to decouple the life-cycle of important application states from the life-cycle of individual application instances: states, and data in general, are written to and read from cloud databases, deployed close to the application code. the high performance requirements on the application impose strict latency limits on these storage solutions for state access. Cloud database instances are therefore distributed on multiple hosts in order to strive to ensure data locality for all functions. However, the shared nature of certain states, and the inevitable dynamics of the application workload necessarily lead to inter-host data access within the data center (or even across data centers, if the application requires a multi-data center setup). In order to minimize the inter-host communication due to state externalization, we propose an advanced cloud scheduling algorithm that places functions' states across the hosts of a data center. We create a model for the state placement with the aim of minimizing state access latency, and we prove that it is a complex problem. We therefore propose heuristics for fast and efficient placement methods and we evaluate those across realistic scenarios. We show that our approximations are close to the optimal placement, and in large-scale settings the algorithms take only a few minutes to yield good placement results.

As the scene of multi-view reconstruction becomes larger, a single machine can no longer satisfy the refinement of 3D mesh in large scenes including mesh simplification, subdivision, smoothness and recovering meaningful details. In this paper, We propose a distributed method to refine a large-scale 3D mesh for accurate multi-view reconstruction. First, we divide the initial mesh into blocks directly, which can utilize computing power of each computer. And then we make simplification and subdivision on those blocks, which can reduce mesh's noise and remove redundant vertices, so as to generate a high quality mesh where the difference of the size of each edge is not too large. Next, we propose to split a graph consisting of multiple images in order to minimize the overlapped image data in each block. Finally, we use distributed variational surface refinement algorithm to capture meaningful details of mesh. the experiments on both public large scale data-sets and our very large scale aerial photo sets demonstrate that the proposed distributed method is fast and robust, and is suitable for all kinds of large scene areas.

In recent times, the domain of high speed information transfer has seen a quantum jump in performance with the advent of novel RADAR techniques. the spectrum available for programmable, pulsed radar systems is limited;hence, devising different multicarrier techniques to meet the demands for high data throughput becomes imperative. At a radar base station the amplifiers placed in the RF front end are devices that consume most of the power. It creates distortions in the transmitted signal due to its non-linear characteristics. Here, the performance of OFDM and FBMC multicarrier signals transmitted over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), Rayleigh fading and Rician fading channels along with the influence of the high power amplifier (HPA) are analyzed. the different types of amplifier models used for comparison are of the solid state power amplifier (SSPA) and traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) type. the results are compared for evident degradation in the quality metrics such as spectral efficiency and PAPR. Radar signal generation and processing techniques are developing with an aim of reducing interference and signal interception. Signal jamming and signal detection have become emerging areas of interest in the field of radar engineering. So there is a need for design and development of new waveforms which are less detectable by the hostile receiver and less susceptible to jamming In the work mentioned here, Stepped Frequency Waveform (SFW) is modulated with phase modulation techniques such as Barker codes and polyphase codes to improve the complexity and to reduce the detectability of waveform thus increasing the bandwidth of waveform and limiting the transmitted power of the waveform by using pulse compression techniques. the SFW considered here is generated having varying step size. Pulse compression technique is employed here in order to generate a pulse having a range resolution of shorter pulse and transmitted power of longer pulse. the modulated waveform characteristics have been studied and analyzed using ambiguity functions of the waveform.
