DC motor speed can be achieved by changing the armature voltage fed through converter that generally employed with conventional PID. However, conventional PID controller has some disadvantages such as the high starting overshoot and sensitivity to controller gains. On the other hand, fractional order PID has potential to accomplish what conventional PID cannot. In this study, fractional order PID controller was applied to control speed of DC motor. By calculated error that occurred by reference speed and actual speed, fractional order PID brought motor run at desired speed. the parameters of fractional order PID controller (proportional constant, integral constant, derivative constant, derivative order and integral order) are optimally tuned by using Genetic Algorithm, and the optimization performance target is based on Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE) criterion. Oustaloup's approximation method is used to approximate the fractional order differentiator and integrator. this controller performances are tested in simulation mode using MATLAB/Simulink. Speed response of motor DC are compared between fractional order PID and conventional PID controller. the result of fractional order PID controller could reduce overshoot, settling time and steady state error. With this result, show that fractional order PID controller perform better than conventional PID controller.

the subject of this research is to investigate human simulation to predict injuries due to the fatigue of a repetitive loading. this work over the past few years has sought to integrate high-fidelity computational methods for stress/strain analysis, namely finite element analysis (FEA), with biomechanics predictions through digital human modeling and simulation (DHMS). Previous work by this group is a simulation environment called SANTOS (R), which enables the prediction of human motion, including all aspects of its biomechanics. the SANTOS environment provides a joint-and physics-based predictive dynamics including a muscle model. Repetitiveness of work activity has been shown to be a strong risk factor for cumulative trauma disorders (repetitive strain injuries). Both cumulative load theory and deferential fatigue theory claim that repetitive activities precipitate musculoskeletal injury. the cumulative load theory suggests that repeated load application may result in cumulative fatigue, reducing stress-bearing capacity. Such changes may reduce the threshold stress at which the tissues fail. the deferential fatigue theory proposes that the muscles operating the joints may be differentially loaded and that this may not be proportional to the individual muscles' capabilities. this can create a significant stress concentration in some tissues, causing an injury. this paper presents a local biomechanics model in a virtual environment, whereby the DHMS model calculates the muscle forces and motion profiles (i.e., the kinematics of the motion across time for each degree of freedom for the body). Predictive dynamics, a method developed and implemented by this group, is able to characterize the motion using an optimization algorithm that calculates the motion profiles. these motion profiles and muscle forces are calculated for each task over a repetitive cycle and are used as input for the multi-scale FEA model. the FEA model of the selected joint computes the stresses of

Human space exploration has never been more exciting than it is today. Human presence to outer worlds is becoming a reality as humans are leveraging much of our prior knowledge to the new mission of going to Mars. Exploring the solar system at greater distances from Earth than ever before will possess some unique challenges, which can be overcome thanks to the advances in modeling and simulation technologies. the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is at the forefront of exploring our solar system. NASA's Human Research Program (HRP) focuses on discovering the best methods and technologies that support safe and productive human space travel in the extreme and harsh space environment. HRP uses various methods and approaches to answer questions about the impact of long duration missions on the human in space including: gravity's impact on the human body, isolation and confinement on the human, hostile environments impact on the human, space radiation, and how the distance is likely to impact the human. Predictive models are included in the HRP research portfolio as these models provide valuable insights into human-system operations. this paper will provide an overview of NASA's HRP and will present a number of projects that have used modeling and simulation to provide insights into human-system issues (e.g. automation, habitat design, schedules) in anticipation of deep-space exploration.

In this paper, we present an algebraic approach for beam dynamics simulation in linear and circular accelerators. A two-and three-dimensional distribution function approach is employed within the matrix formalism for Lie algebraic methods and computer algebra codes. Implementing software design provides the code rather good maintainability, reusability, and extensibility. this approach is an alternative to well-known Particle-in-Cell approach. But it can be easily applied to the PIC-approach and thus to make better their effectiveness. As a required demand, the code also include symplectic integration methods (based on a correcting procedure for aberration matrices) up to an approximation order. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Improving motion capture processing onto a high-fidelity digital human model is an important research area. Although there has been significant research in this field, little work has been done to determine posture and anthropometry simultaneously with the intent of visualizing the data on high-fidelity human models. Many existing techniques are less accurate when applying processed data to a digital model for biomechanical analysis. this paper presents a novel approach that estimates posture and anthropometry using optimization-based posture prediction to determine joint angles and link-lengths of a digital human. By including anthropometric design variables, this approach introduces flexible handling of innate variance in subject-model measurements without need for pre- or post-processing. this produces a more realistic motion and exhibits anthropometric measurements closer to those of the original subject, resulting in a new level of biomechanical accuracy that allows for analysis of a processed motion with a higher degree of confidence.

Some measures of safety management based on cellular automata model are introduced. Firstly, single employee's model could be established. Employees have been divided into three safety states. Each employee has six neighbors which mean hexagon cell is used. Taking employee' s awareness into consideration. Some safety related definitions are given and local transition rules are built. then three different emergences could be observed in the ideal condition. Overall safety situation shows strong randomness in the different initial conditions and could be divided into three kinds. Key factors of the safety awareness emergence could be found through analysis. Finally, combined with the behavior-based safety management system concept and the key factor above, some specific measures such as education and punishment are put forward. When safety management measure is used, there are only one form of emergence and overall safety situation rises clearly.

In this work conventional PID and fractional order PID (FOPID) controllers are designed for Twin Rotor Aerodynamic System (TRAS). TRAS is a nonlinear and multi input multi output (MIMO) system. the aim of the proposed control scheme is to control the pitch and yaw angles of TRAS so that they can move at desired angles. A metaheuristic optimization technique named as continuous human learning optimization algorithm (CHLO) is adopted to design PID and FOPID controllers. PID and FOPID controllers are applied to coupled and decoupled TRAS. the results obtained through simulation revealed that FOPID controller has superior performance than PID controller. Moreover, the response of FOPID and PID controllers is better for decoupled system whereas for coupled system response of designed controller is poor. the results obtained with CHLO-FOPID controller are also compared with other metaheuristic optimization techniques that are used to design FOPID controller for TRAS. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Wavelet neural network is an alternative to artificial neural network in empirical modeling of industrial processes due to efficient initialization of network parameters that reduces training time. In this paper, particle swarm optimization methods are used for initialization of dilation and translational parameters in two wavelet neural network models. Dissolved oxygen models are constructed from real bioprocess data of pilot scale fed-batch bioreactor in polyhydroxyalkanotes (PHA) production and an industrial-scale fed-batch bioreactor in penicillin production. simulation output of dissolved oxygen and initial mean square error (IMSE) show that the distance and error between initialization and training data are small in PSO method compared to random and heuristic methods. this ensures training phase start very close to target data. © 2018 IEEE.

Realistic virtual mannequins, that represent body shapes that occur in the target population, are valuable tools for product developers who design near-body products. Statistical shape modeling is a promising approach to map out the variability of body shapes. the strength of statistical shape models (SSM) is their ability to capture most of the shape variation with only a few shape modes. Unfortunately, the shape variation captured by SSMs of human bodies is often polluted by variations in posture, which substantially reduces the compactness of those models. In this paper, we propose a fast and data driven framework to build a posture invariant SSM. the normalized SSM is shown to be substantially more compact than the non-normalized SSM. Using five shape modes, the normalized SSM is 23% more compact than the non-normalized SSM.
