Visual Cryptography (VC) has emerged as a separate discipline to meet the security concerns of vital image resources. Traditional (k, m) VC creates m encrypted shares out of given secret images. Decryption can be done by stacking specified number of shares, say k, to reveal the secret images. Rotational VC is a technique in which the shares stacked with the specific rotated shares reveals secret images. parallel Rotational VC (PRVC) is a General Purpose Graphic processing Unit (GPGPU) implementation of rotational (2, 3) VC scheme in which GPGPU generates three shares for three secret images. Reconstruction of secret images is possible with the intersection of a given pair of share and a rotated share. We propose Pipelined PRVC (PPRVC) which combines task parallelism capability of a GPGPU with the data parallelism. the result showed a significant computational acceleration over PRVC. © 2019 IEEE.

Impacts of spatial resolution on the predictive capability of flood simulation models have shown the necessity to assemble geographic models up to the level where physical behaviour can be expressed. Indeed, simulation systems in large areas lead to an increasing amount of simulation datasets or decreasing resolution causes negative effects. Besides, the Cellular Automata model have been applied successfully to many natural phenomena. this paper proposes an analysis of environmental information in relation with extended simulation capabilities. this approach uses a cellular automata model integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) taking advantages of parallel computing resources operated using the Message Passing Interface (MPI) framework.

the Fourier transform converts a signal from its original domain to a representation in the frequency domain. Applications of the Fourier Transform are far-reaching, spanning fields such as intelligent information processing, machine vision, physics, mathematics, medical science, and telecommunications; hence, its applications have become an indispensable part in our daily life. therefore, it is essential to construct efficient and high-reliability schemes to guarantee smooth performance of the systems using Fourier Transforms. this study compares performances of Fast Fourier Transforms on a host CPU, GPU parallel computing, and GPU parallel computing with memory allocation optimization. From the experimental results, GPU parallel computing is proven to be effective in enhancing computation speed of the FFT; the speedup ratio of GPU parallel computing over the CPU can reach 48 when operating on 32678 8-byte complex input data. In addition, by optimizing GPU memory allocation, the computation speed of the FFT can be further enhanced; the speedup ratio of GPU parallel computing with memory allocation optimization over the CPU can reach 114.7 when operating on 32678 8-byte complex input data.

Metacognition is a valuable tool for learning, since it is closely related to self-regulation and awareness of one's own affect. However, methods for automatically detecting and studying metacognition are scarce. thus, in this paper we describe an algorithm for automatic detection of metacognitive language in writing. We analyzed text from the forums of two online, university-level science courses, which revealed common patterns of phrases that we used for automatic metacognition detection. the algorithm we developed exhibited high accuracy on expert-labeled metacognitive phrases (Spearman's rho = 0.878 and Cohen's kappa = 0.792), and provides a reliable, fast method for automatically annotating text corpora that are too large for manual annotation. We applied this algorithm to analyze relationships between students' metacognitive language and their academic performance, finding small correlations with course grade and medium-sized differences in metacognition across courses. We discuss how our algorithm can be used to advance metacognitive studies and online educational systems.

this paper proposes a novel method using Vedic mathematics for calculating the square of binary numbers. An improved Vedic multiplier architecture is used in the binary squaring circuit. the circuit is further improved by using parallel prefix adder. parallel prefix adder provides the best delay performance at the expense of area overhead. In this work, the parallel prefix adders like Kogge-Stone adder, Brent-Kung adder, Sklansky adder, Ladner-Fischer adder and Han-Carlson adder are used. the circuit is designed in Verilog HDL. the circuit synthesis has been performed in Xilinx ISE 14.7. Simulation has been performed for 4-bit and 8-bit designs. Performance comparison has been performed taking into consideration several parameters measured on different FPGA families. An improved speed performance is observed in this paper when compared with the previously reported circuits.

Investigation of processing parameters in micro-thermoforming of micro-structured polystyrene film

In this study, a thermoforming process for manufacturing micro-structured polystyrene (PS) films is investigated to characterize the effects of significant processing parameters. the present micro-thermoforming process utilizes a mold core with five concave rectangular grooves (each of width 0.4-1.2 mm and a depth of 1 mm). Two types of PS films (thicknesses of 50 and 190 mu m) are employed to examine the effect of film thickness. three main processing parameters namely heating temperature, heating time, and mold core temperature are analyzed. the results show that as the width of the groove in the mold core decreases, the forming ratio (depth-to-width ratio of the thermoformed micro-feature) slightly reduces, consequently indicating poor thermoforming. Both thin and thick PS films exhibit similar forming results under favorable conditions. However, when the processing conditions are not suitably applied, the thick film shows the worst result. From the design of experiment analysis using a normalized forming ratio, the mold core temperature is found to be the most influential factor in the thermoforming process of manufacturing micro-structured PS films.

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) or H.265 is a successor of H.264/AVC, which is designed to gain performance, ease parallel processing and achieve better compression ratio over the latter. We present a compressed domain background modelling technique utilizing residual information from inter predicted motion compensated coding blocks at HEVC encoder. We employ machine learning techniques to model the dynamic background using training sequence and test it on target video sequences with highly dynamic background content. Rather than operating on a pixel level granularity, the proposed method operates on 8x8 data blocks from residual frames. the method classifies each 8x8 block of the input frame as foreground or background. After block level segmentation, conventional background subtraction methods can be used on the foreground blocks for pixel level segmentation, resulting in reduced computation time and effective utilization of resources. © 2019 IEEE.

A mayor challenge in human-robot interaction and collaboration is the synthesis of non-verbal behaviour for the expression of social signals. Appropriate perception and expression of dominance (verticality) in non-verbal behaviour is essential for social interaction. In this paper, we present our work on algorithmic modulation of robot bodily movement to express varying degrees of dominance. We developed a parameter-based model for head tilt and body expansiveness. this model was applied to a variety of behaviours. these behaviours were evaluated by human observers in two different studies with respectively static pictures of key postures (N=772) and real-time gestures (N=31). Overall, specific behaviours proved to communicate different levels of dominance. Further, modulation of body expansiveness and head tilt robustly influenced perceived dominance independent of specific behaviours and observer viewing height and angle. the modulation did not influence perceived valence, but it did influence perceived arousal. Our study shows that dominance can be reliably expressed by both selection of specific behaviours and modulation of behaviours.

Network virtualization is ubiquitously an essential attribute to enable the success of the future virtualized networks (e.g. forthcoming 5G network, smart Internet of things (IoT)). Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) is the main challenge in network virtualization that allows multiple heterogeneous Virtual Networks (VNs) to simultaneously coexist on top of a shared substrate infrastructure. Many VNE algorithms have been proposed over past decades but most of them are merely focusing on VNE node mapping and leaving link mapping task for the popular k-shortest path algorithms or multi-commodity flow (MCF) mechanism. In this paper, we propose an intelligent VNE orchestration for link mapping stage which exploits distributed parallelism to considerably reduce the processing time with high efficiency. Extensive simulations have shown that our proposed algorithm outperforms the most popular VNE algorithms.

A connected vehicle model with delays due to human reaction times and sensing and communication lines is considered. In particular, we investigate how time delays affect the equilibrium stability of this model in large scale. We focus mainly on the delay margin (DM) of this equilibrium, i.e., the largest delay that the system can accommodate without losing stability. We present how DM is influenced by the sparsity of sensor and communication lines and the number of vehicles. Different from previous work, no assumption is imposed on the structure of the network topology; the large-scale dynamics is treated in a computationally efficient manner by utilizing our recently developed parallel processing computational tool Delay Margin Finder (parDMF).
