Droop control method has been widely applied to achieve equal power sharing among distributed generations in microgrids. However, the reactive power sharing performance is barely satisfactory for the absence of sharing accuracy under conditions of imbalanced line impedances. this paper proposed a communication-independent reactive power sharing scheme for parallel connected inverters. In this scheme, constant voltage control is applied to inverters, and the changing rate of virtual impedance is drooped with reactive power, hence accurate reactive power sharing could be achieved with no impact on voltage regulation performance. In addition, since the virtual impedance is adaptive to changing of reactive power, extra information from PCC voltage, line impedance or other communications is not needed in the implementation. the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulations.

the effect of two soft fault error models on the convergence of the parallel flexible GMRES (FGMRES) iterative method solving an elliptical PDE problem on a regular grid is evaluated. We consider two types of preconditioners: an incomplete LU factorization with dual threshold (ILUT), and an algebraic recursive multilevel solver (ARMS) combined with random butterfly transformation (RBT). the experiments quantify the difference between two soft fault error models considered in this study and compare their potential impact on the convergence.

the availability of high performance computing resources enables us to perform very large numerical simulations and in this way to tackle challenging real life problems. At the same time, in order to efficiently utilize the computational power at our disposal, the ever growing complexity of the computer architecture poses high demands on the algorithms and their implementation. Performing large scale high performance simulations can be done by utilizing available general libraries, writing libraries that suit particular classes of problems or developing software from scratch. Clearly, the possibilities to enhance the efficiency of the software tools in the three cases is very different, ranging from nearly impossible to full capacity. In this work we exemplify the efficiency of the three approaches on benchmark problems, using monitoring tools that provide a very rich spectrum of data on the performance of the applied codes as well as on the utilization of the supercomputer itself.

All-Pairs problems require each data element in a set of N data elements to be paired with every other data element for specific computation using the two data elements. Our framework aims to address recurring problems of scalability, distributing equal work load to all nodes and by reducing memory footprint. We reduce memory footprint of All-Pairs problems, by reducing memory requirement from N/root P to 3N/P. A bio-informatics application is implemented to demonstrate the scalability ranging up to 512 cores for the data set we experimented, redundancy management, and speed up performance of the framework.

Conflagration is disaster that strongly influence environmental ecology and lives. In building, sensors are sufficient to support notification and evacuation. In contrast, the outdoor fire notification is supported via image fire detection. For wildfire notification and assistance in rescue, many researches extract fire characteristic from digital image to detect fire. However, the false alarm of detection system happens when it find the little flame can be extinguished itself with time. In case of false alarm often happens, the rescuer may neglect it and lose the first opportunity to rescue in mission. In this paper, we propose a system that combine deep learning and hidden markov model (HMM) in order to reduce frequency of false alarm. Our proposed system defines the status transformation of images/frames. Afterwards, the relationship of status transition is employed to notification classes. As experimental result, the fire detection rate of all deep learning architectures can achieve more than 96%. And our proposed system can also reduce up to 88.54% false alarm rate to decrease the waste of emergency manpower effectively.

Numerical modeling simulations and the use of high-performance computing are fundamental for detailed safety analysis, control and operation of a nuclear reactor, allowing the study and analysis of problems related with thermal-hydraulics, neutronic and the dynamic of fluids which are involved in these systems. In this work we introduce the bases for the implementation of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) approach to analyze heat transfer in a nuclear reactor core. Heat transfer by means of convection is of great importance in many engineering applications and especially in the analysis of heat transfer in nuclear reactors. As a first approach, the natural convection in the gap (space that exists between the fuel rod and the cladding) can be analyzed helping to reduce uncertainty in such calculations that usually relies on empirical correlations while using other numerical tools. the numerical method developed in this work was validated while comparing the results obtained in previous numerical simulations and experimental data reported in the literature showing that our implementation is suitable for the study of heat transfer in nuclear reactors. Numerical simulations were done with the DualSPHysics open source code that allows to perform parallel calculations using different number of cores. the current implementation is a version written in CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) that allows also the use of GPU processors (Graphics Processor Unit) to accelerate the calculations in parallel using a large number of cores contained in the GPU. this makes possible to analyze large systems using a reasonable computer time. the obtained results verified and validated our method and allowed us to have a strong solver for future applications of heat transfer in nuclear reactors fuel inside the reactor cores. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Workloads fluctuate in many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Managing human resources in these conditions can be difficult for companies. In busy periods, workers struggle to complete all the work, but in idle periods, workers may not have enough to do. Various employment methods exist to address this issue, such as temporary staff and outsourcing services. However, it is still important for organizations to be able to fully utilize their regular employees. the aim of this study is to explore a new way to level out employee work hours by using an inter-company, peer-to-peer (P2P), human resource sharing platform. this platform allows companies experiencing idle periods to offer their employees to companies in busy periods using an automated negotiation technology. the effectiveness of this new platform will be evaluated and verified using multi-agent simulation. Our simulation results showed that a single negotiation by each company agent per share cycle was adequate and that the manner in which idle and busy company agents were matched was not important.

We address the problem of generating a many-nucleon basis for ab initio nuclear structure modeling, which quickly becomes a significant runtime bottleneck for large model spaces. We first analyze the original basis generation algorithm, which does not employ multi-threading parallel paradigm. Based on the analysis, we propose and empirically evaluate a new efficient scalable basis generation algorithm. We report a reduction of basis generation runtime by a factor of 42 on the Blue Waters supercomputer and by two orders of magnitude on our test-bed computer system with Broadwell CPUs.

the modified parallel algorithm for solving the inverse gravity problem of finding several boundary surfaces in multilayered medium is constructed and implemented on multicore CPU using the OpenMP technology. the algorithm is based on the iterative linearized conjugate gradient method with weighting factors. the modification is based on replacing the blocks of Jacobean matrix of the integral operator by band matrices. the model problem of reconstructing two surfaces using synthetic gravitational data was solved. the modified algorithm reduces the execution time by two times with little effect on the error of the solution. © EAGE 2018.
