Internet of things (IoT) is playing increasingly more fundamental role in wide range of sectors, including industry, agriculture, health care, and other services. In many cases, cloud computing serves as an elastic and efficient paradigm for implementing IoT back-ends. With the emerging lightweight software container technologies, the feasible approaches and design options for such IoT back-ends have been significantly enriched. In our paper we present the evolution of an IoT back-end, which is responsible for collecting (among others) meteorological, image and soil data from cultivated fields in order to enable precision farming. the different versions, namely the cloud VM-based and the Docker containerized variants, provide highly scalable and vendor independent (cloud provider agnostic) solutions, therefore they can form a robust and adaptive framework for further pilot applications areas, e.g. Connected Cars and Industry 4.0, as the presented benchmarks illustrate the throughput and other parameters of the current implementation in the paper.

Pattern-matching techniques have recently been applied to network security applications such as intrusion detection, virus protection, and spam filters. the widely used the Aho-Corasick algorithm can simultaneously match multiple patterns while providing a worst-case performance guarantee. the traditional Aho-Corasick algorithm has some problems on the large-scale dictionary matching, such as take a huge memory space, cost too much time when building trie, huge update cost (rebuild trie) and so on. In this paper, we summarize several recent works on the expansion of the AC algorithm: the original Aho-Corasick algorithm(AC), the parallel Aho-Corasick algorithm(PAC), and the parallel failure-less Aho-Corasick algorithm(PFAC). Among them, the PAC used muti-thread to process input text by divide input to few parts, but in this way, this is a problem called boundary detection problem. the PFAC which uses parallel processing, discarding the failure function and enhancing the AC processing capability by the power of GPU is relatively popular. the PFAC not only enhance the speed of matching process but also solve the boundary detection problem. In the original PFAC paper, only a small size dictionary pattern matching test was conducted. In this paper, we verify the feasibility of using PFAC for large-scale dictionary characters. And give a discussion on the possibility of using the PFAC algorithm to match large-scale pattern dictionaries. At last, we present our proposals for PFAC expansion for large-scale dictionary pattern matching. For example, the one called pattern cut approach is to cut the pattern from the common prefix with other words, and the other one is the large automaton is divided according to the input text by the prefix of words. And the sub-automatons are constructed separately. When the input text is processed, each word is processed by the sub-automaton that distributed according to the prefix of words. All pairwise computation is defined as performing computation between every pair of the elements in a given dataset. It is often a necessary first step in a number of bioinformatics applications. Many of such applications require multiple terabytes of main memory and take multiple peta floating point operations to complete the computation. therefore, large HPC clusters are needed to tackle these large-scale computational problems. Conventionally designed parallel algorithms using data partitioning may have a scalability issue, i.e., for a given problem of fixed size the efficiency may decrease if the number of compute nodes is increased (Amdahl's law). In this paper we introduce a new method for parallel algorithm design. Using this method we first design an efficient one-dimensional (1D) ring algorithm and then a two-dimensional (2D) algorithm based on the 1D ring for all pairwise computation. When increasing the compute nodes, instead of reducing the block size, we make multiple copies of the original data blocks in the 1D ring and distribute them across the added compute nodes in the other dimension. By properly organizing the compute nodes the communication overhead can be reduced to a minimum in this two-dimensional setting. Experiments on a Cray XC40 HPC supercomputer show that our new algorithms are very efficient and scalable for large-scale all pairwise computation on large HPC clusters.

the Internet of things (IoT) paradigm refers to the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to exchange data with servers, centralized systems, and/or other connected devices based on a variety of communication infrastructures. IoT data collected from different sensors, nodes and collectors are transferred to the cloud over the internee IoT devices are used by consumers, healthcare, businesses as well as by the governments. It is being forecast that 31 billion IoT devices will be deployed all over the world by the year 2020. As the use of IoT devices is increasing every moment several IoT vulnerabilities are introduced. the results and analysis indicate that massive deployment of IoT with an integration of new technologies are introducing new security challenges in IoT paradigm. Along with the energy revolution and the environmental movement, the energy industry is transforming into a clean, distributed energy sector with a new energy structure featuring multiple energy flows complementing each other. Blockchain is a distributed database that is jointly maintained by the consensus of the whole network and maintains all historical transaction data. It provides a feasible path for the transaction demand of distributed energy, high frequency and low cost. Firstly the problems brought by distributed energy transaction and the business positioning of each subject is analyzed. Based on the core demand of distributed energy transaction, the fit between Blockchain technology and distributed energy transaction is analyzed. On this basis, Fabric distributed energy transaction architecture and transaction flow are proposed, and the key technologies of distributed data storage, consensus mechanism and intelligent contract are analyzed.

With the increasing popularity of virtual machine monitoring (VMM) technologies, performance variability among collocated virtual machines (VMs) can easily become a severe scalability issue. Particularly, it becomes a necessary for administrative team to control the performance degradation level in a shared environment when multiple I/O-intensive applications simultaneously request their I/O operations [1]. Nevertheless, adding several logical layers between the running applications and the physical storage system, as seen in contemporary virtualized storage devices, makes it considerably difficult to build a low overhead controlling mechanism for such systems (while each VM may running a separate operating system instance) [2]. In this paper, we propose a strategy based on control theory for managing the performance of several I/O requests, such as mean response times and read/write throughput in a consolidated environment where multiple virtual services can share access to a storage system. this scheme uses an approach for measuring the characterization of read/write performance attributes of each virtual services and also takes into account the run-time quality of service enforcement levels requested by them. this is formulated as an optimization problem where a reward function is defined to reduce the overall QoS violation incidents among all consolidated virtual services. Performance evaluation is carried out by comparing the proposed solution with the default embedded Linux controller across a range of emulated application workloads in scenarios with multiple consolidated virtual containers. the results confirm that the proposed solution can reduce the overall QoS violation incident rates in scenarios in which the platform operates at a significant traffic load comparing to the default policy in LXC engine.

With the emergence of the concept of big data, Hadoop MapReduce has been the de facto standard programming model for processing a large amount of data stored on the different cluster nodes in a distributed manner. It is known that the implementation of MapReduce operation with the default configuration yields a low number of parallel running jobs. In fact, poor resource utilization and overall low performance are usually induced by the default configuration. Although a myriad of works has been carried out in the literature for optimally configuring Hadoop MapReduce, the absolute vast majority of those works only consider offline and static configuration. those approaches are clearly ineffective as the load might change during execution requiring tuning again the configuration parameters. In this work, we rather focus on dynamical and adaptively configuring Hadoop MapReduce by changing the system level Maximum Application Master Resource in Percent (MARP) parameter on the fly. We show that adaptively tuning the MARP parameter yields a good trade-off between job parallelism and throughput. To achieve this, an optimal design which we call Adaptive Parameter Tuning of Hadoop (APth) based on a novel variant of the Tsetlin Automata is devised. Comprehensive experimental results show that the resources are optimally and appropriately utilized, resulting in better job parallelism and throughput. Furthermore, it is found that our APth approach spends 47% less time for job execution as compared to the default configuration.

A typical scenario in a stream data-flow processing engine is that users submit continues queries in order to receive the computational result once a new stream of data arrives. the focus of the paper is to design a dynamic CPU cap controller for stream data-flow applications with real-time constraints, in which the result of computations must be available within a short time period, specified by the user, once a recent update in the input data occurs. It is common that the stream data-flow processing engine is deployed over a cluster of dedicated or virtualized server nodes, e.g., Cloud or Edge platform, to achieve a faster data processing. However, the attributes of incoming stream data-flow might fluctuate in an irregular way. To effectively cope with such unpredictable conditions, the underlying resource manager needs to be equipped with a dynamic resource provisioning mechanism to ensure the real-time requirements of different applications. the proposed solution uses control theory principals to achieve a good utilization of computing resources and a reduced average response time. the proposed algorithm dynamically adjusts the required quality of service (QoS) in an environment when multiple stream & data-flow processing applications concurrently run with unknown and volatile workloads. Our study confirms that such a unpredictable demand can negatively degrade the system performance, mainly due to adverse interference in the utilization of shared resources. Unlike prior research studies which assumes a static or zero correlation among the performance variability among consolidated applications, we presume the prevalence of shared-resource interference among collocated applications as a key performance-limiting parameter and confront it in scenarios where several applications have different QoS requirements with unpredictable workload demands.
