Wireless Nano sensor Networks (WNSNs) are enabling advanced nanotechnology applications in the medical, industrial, biomedical, military, and environmental fields. Nano-devices communicate in the Terahertz band and provide a very large transmission bit-rate at the cost of high propagation delay resulting in a short communication distance due to Terahertz band peculiarities. thus, classical MAC protocols cannot be used. this paper proposes an energy-aware Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for WNSNs in the Terahertz band to synchronize the nano-devices communication. the proposed communication scheme is based on a Time spread on-off keying (TS-OOK). It's also based on active transmitter nodes transmitting their packets in an interleaving way on a symbol basis to their relay receivers in the neighbour grid based on the calculated CTR value. the performance of the proposed model is analytically analysed in terms of consumed energy, probability of collisions, transmission delay and network throughput. the results show that the proposed grid based MAC can increase the transmitter throughput by efficiently utilizing the very large terahertz band.

Delay effects can impact the Quality of Experience of interactive systems, which motivates research assessing delay impairments, mostly for web based systems. Current studies follow individual methodologies and typically assesses individual and custom-made web pages, whose construction requires expert knowledge in web technologies. Further, a range of native, non-web applications cannot be easily modified for delay studies. thus, a generalized methodology for assessing delay impacts for a broad range of applications that is accessible to researchers without (web) development expertise is still missing. this paper contributes to this open problem by i) presenting a new methodology for reproducible delay assessments in a broad class of systems and ii) presenting an open-source implementation to be used by the community. this methodology particularly aims at making delay assessment available to a broad range of researchers by avoiding programming skills and thus by lowering the barrier for setting-up delay assessments.

Computational Intelligence methods are widely used in a diverse range of scientific and industrial applications, including economic modeling, finance, networks and transportation, database design, design and control, scheduling and others. On the other hand, Collective Intelligence methods aim at harvesting the power of people's mobile devices for gathering and sending useful information about the values and the variations of environmental variables in a target area or the macroscopic behavior of a target population. In this paper we propose a computation paradigm, which combines computational, collective intelligence and privacy respecting techniques, towards the creation of a flexible, low-cost, secure, massively parallel virtual computing platform based on people's own devices. Examples of how such an infrastructure can be the platform of the deployment of innovative, computationally demanding, applications and services that demand peer-to-peer connections and users' device collaboration are presented. the privacy respecting techniques enhance people's trust in providing their data through their personal devices.

the presented algorithms employ the Vector Space Model (VSM) and its enhancements such as TFIDF (Term Frequency Inverse Document Frequency). Vector space model suffers from curse of dimensionality. therefore various dimensionality reduction algorithms are utilized. this paper deals with two of the most common ones i.e. Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) and Random Projection (RP). It turns out that the size of a document corpus has a substantial impact on the processing time. thus the authors introduce GPU based on acceleration of these techniques. A dedicated test set-up was created and a series of experiments were conducted which revealed important properties of the algorithms and their accuracy. they show that the random projection outperforms LSI in terms of computing speed at the expanse of results quality. Hierarchical Temporal Memory is a structure that models some of the structural and algorithmic properties of the neocortex. HTM is a biological model based on the memory-prediction theory of brain. HTM is a method for discovering and learning of observed input patterns and sequences, building an increasingly complex models. HTM combines and extends approaches used in sparse distributed memory, Bayesian networks, spatial and temporal clustering algorithms, using a tree-shaped hierarchy neural networks. It is quite a new model of deep learning process, which is very efficient technique in artificial intelligence algorithms. HTM like other deep learning models (Boltzmann machine, deep belief networks etc.) has structure which can be efficiently processed by parallel machines. Modern multi-core processors with wide vector processing units (SSE, AVX), GPGPU are platforms that can tremendously speed up learning, classifying or clustering algorithms based on deep learning models (e.g. Cuda Toolkit 7.0). the current bottleneck of this new flexible artifficial intelligence model is efficiency. this article focuses on parallel processing of HTM learning algorithms in parallel hardware platforms. this work is the first one about implementation of HTM architecture and its algorithms in hardware accelerators. the article doesn't study quality of the algorithm. In this paper, a droop control strategy is presented for accurate power sharing between parallel connected inverters in an AC microgrid in autonomous mode. the proposed strategy is based on the droop control techniques P-f/Q-V and P-V/Q-f, with a virtual impedance and using monitored quantities directly at the inverter. this droop control approach can be used in microgrids where communications are not reliable or not available. It allows for maintaining voltage and frequency stability and for regulating the power flows between the primary energy sources and the common AC bus. the design methodology of the control scheme under study is based on grid-supporting-grid-forming controls using multi-loop dq control. the time domain simulation is conducted, in the MATLAB®/SimPowerSystems environment and the RT-EVENTS toolbox from OPAL-RT is also used to model the inverters. Resulting waveforms show that the proposed method can allocate both real and reactive powers effectively and can enhance the stability of a micro-grid in the autonomous operation mode. © 2016 University of MEDEA, Algeria.

Experiments conducted by the Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems (KES) Centre use Java to gain its many advantages, especially in a distributed and dynamically scalable environment. Interoperability within and across ubiquitous computing operations has evolved to a level where plug 'n' play protocols can be used to invoke common interfaces. Designers are able to create dynamic interfaces using reflectance to effectively and efficiently conduct distributed decision-making. Many applications now use mobile agents to support web-centric activities. One example includes: dynamic agent functionality within simulations that automatically adapt to incoming data and/or languages via scripts or messaging. this has been shown using demonstrations described herein. Many are web centric and involve data mining or the use of other types of Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS).

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is a common tool to study the physical movements of atoms and molecules in many research fields. However, it is an extremely time-consuming application which takes researchers weeks or months to run a single simulation when simulation size scales up and computing demands keep growing. In this paper, an improved MD implementation on Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer is developed to solve the above mentioned issues. the new implementation is extended from an existing implementation (i. e., LAMMPS) which widely uses the MD application. Sunway TaihuLight is a heterogeneous supercomputer with a fully customized integration approach and a brand new many-core processor SW26010. the Sunway TaihuLight takes the world's first place with peak performance over 100PFlops. We propose an optimization method of the MD simulation in three steps: paralleled extensions to SW26010, memory-access optimizations, and vectorization. After the optimization process, an 8x speedup is achieved on a single computing node. Superiorly, we also scale up to 95 thousands computing nodes (6 millions cores) with an almost leaner speedup. Besides, the proposed methods can also be applied to many other molecular dynamics codes, or similar applications.

Robust proactive planning of day-ahead real power provision must incorporate uncertainty in feasibility when trading off different schedules against each other during the predictive planning phase. Imponderabilities like weather, user interaction, projected heat demand, and many more have a major impact on feasibility - in the sense of being technically operable by a specific energy unit. Deviations from the predicted initial operational state of an energy unit may easily foil a planned schedule commitment and provoke the need for ancillary services. In order to minimize control power and cost arising from deviations from agreed energy product delivery, it is advantageous to a priori know about individual uncertainty. We extend an existing surrogate model that has been successfully used in energy management for checking feasibility during constraint-based optimization. the surrogate is extended to incorporate confidence scores based on expected feasibility under changed operational conditions.
