the training of SVM can be viewed as a Convex Quadratic Programming (CQP) problem which becomes difficult to be solved when dealing with the large scale data sets. Traditional methods such as Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) for SVM training is used to solve a sequence of small scale sub-problems, which costs a large amount of computation time and is hard to be accelerated by utilizing the computation power of GPU. Although Interior Point Method (IPM) such as primal-dual interior point method (PDIPM) can be also addressed SVM training well and has favourable potential for parallelizing on GPU, it contains comparatively high time complexity O(l^3) and space complexity O(l^2), where l is the number of training instances. Fortunately, by invoking low-rank approximation methods such as Incomplete Cholesky Factorization (ICF) and Sherman Morrison Woodbury formula (SMW), the requirements of both storage and computation of PDIPM can be reduced significantly. In this paper, a parallel PDIPM method (P-PDIPM) along with a parallel ICF method (P-ICF) is proposed to accelerate the SVM training on GPU. Experimental results indicate that the training speed of P-PDIPM on GPU is almost 40x faster than that of the serial one (S-PDIPM) on CPU. Besides, without extensive optimization, P-PDIPM can obtain about 8x speedup over the state of the art tool LIBSVM while maintaining high prediction accuracy.

In this paper we compare the computational complexity of two parallel scalar multiplication methods used to speed up scalar multiplications for Elliptic Curve Cryptography applications. Pre-computations are advantageous only when the elliptic curve point is fixed. However, during secure communication sessions using either public keys or digital signatures, the elliptic curve point depends on the public key of the communicating entities and is therefore session dependent. Hence, a second method that replaces pre-computations with some post-computations, allows the pre-computation overhead to be distributed amongst parallel processors. thus scalar multiplication can be computed more efficiently using the post-computation method in the more typical case where the elliptic curve point is variable.

Multi field packet classification is the enabling function for many novel and emerging network applications. Exponential growth of Internet traffic and classification rule sets demand novel hardware based architectural approaches to packet classification. Even though this is an immensely studied area, packet classification that supports scalability in both line rates and rule sets is scarce. In this paper we present experience gained while implementing a parallel packet classification engine architecture on a popular reconfigurable router platform. the architecture exploits parallelism offered in modern hardware technologies to classify multiple packets simultaneously to increase the throughput. the architecture is also capable of utilizing temporal locality present in internet traffic to increase the throughput. the Architecture was implemented on NetFPGA platform and packet classification was done at full line rate without degrading the data rate or the round trip time.

Millions of users use location-based applications (LBAs) to share their positions with friends, request information from points of interest finders, or get notifications from event finders, etc. Such LBAs are typically based on location servers (LSs) managing mobile object positions in a scalable fashion. However, storing precise user positions on LSs raises privacy concerns, in particular, if LS providers are non-trusted. To solve this problem, we present PShare-BSP, a novel approach for the secure management of private user positions on non-trusted LSs. PShare-BSP splits up precise user positions into position shares and distributes them to different LSs of different providers. thus, a compromised provider only reveals user positions with degraded precision. Nevertheless, LBAs can combine several shares from different LSs to increase their precision. PShare-BSP improves on our previous position sharing approaches [4,15,17]: It uses a deterministic share generation approach based on binary space partitioning to avoid probabilistic attacks based, for instance, on Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, it significantly decreases the computational complexity and increases the efficiency by reducing the update costs for succeeding position updates. © Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2013.

the product life cycle management (PLM) system focuses on tracking and managing the information of whole product life cycle, with possible feedback of information to product life cycle phases. It provides opportunities to reduce the inefficiency of life cycle operations and gain in term of competitiveness. Our research consist of the effective management of product life cycle activities by using product data/information/knowledge which are accumulated in the closed-loops of product life cycle with the support of product embedded information devices (PIEDs), multi-agent systems (MAS) and product data & knowledge management (PDKM). In this article we propose an approach based on three organizations: physical product, product Agent, and PLM system. the product Agent can gather product life cycle information from each product with a mobile device such as a personal digital assistant (PDA) or a fixed reader with built-in antenna. He sends information gathered at each site (e.g retail sites, distribution sites ...) to a PLM system. From the PLM's point of view, the product is allowing itself to manage information resources relevant layers to itself in a distributed manner is a logical and practical approach.

Matrix computation such as matrix addition, subtraction, multiplication and inversion are frequently used in various fields for research and engineering application. It is a very important tool for image processing, speech recognition and signal processing for spectral analysis and beam forming... etc... As the area of computer application has broadened, the quantity of data to be operated has greatly increased. With a serial machine as we have now in the 2-D computer system it is becoming too much time consuming in matrix computation to meet the applications. the speed of data processing can be increased or improved by using the 3-D parallel processor, a 3-D IC hardware machine. With the advancement of the TSV (through Silicon Via), wafer to wafer interconnection and stacking technologies in 3-D IC manufacturing, it has become relatively easy and low cost to produce a 3-D parallel processor to meet the requirement for advance research and engineering. What will be the different between the 2-D and 3-D processor is that the processing algorithm and the circuit design architecture. A 3-D processor can be designed to execute the data signal paralleling while the conventional 2-D is sequentially. therefore, the power of the 3-D data processing could be much greater than that of the 2-D version. this paper will describe how this 3-D IC design architecture for handling great number of data processing for matrix inversion as an example in comparing with the current 2D machine in processing power and execution time.

the Mobile Network Optimization (MNO) technologies have advanced at a tremendous pace in recent years. And the Dynamic Network Optimization (DNO) concept emerged years ago, aimed to continuously optimize the network in response to variations in network traffic and conditions. Yet, DNO development is still at its infancy, mainly hindered by a significant bottleneck of the lengthy optimization runtime. this paper identifies parallelism in greedy MNO algorithms and presents an advanced distributed parallel solution. the solution is designed, implemented and applied to real-life projects whose results yield a significant, highly scalable and nearly linear speedup up to 6.9 and 14.5 on distributed 8-core and 16-core systems respectively. Meanwhile, optimization outputs exhibit self-consistency and high precision compared to their sequential counterpart. this is a milestone in realizing the DNO. Further, the techniques may be applied to similar greedy optimization algorithm based applications.

the W3C's Resource Description Framework (or RDF, in short) is a promising candidate which may deliver many of the original semi-structured data promises: flexible structure, optional schema, and rich, flexible URIs as a basis for information sharing. Moreover, RDF is uniquely positioned to benefit from the efforts of scientific communities studying databases, knowledge representation, and Web technologies. Many RDF data collections are being published, going from scientific data to general-purpose ontologies to open government data, in particular in the Linked Data movement. Managing such large volumes of RDF data is challenging, due to the sheer size, the heterogeneity, and the further complexity brought by RDF reasoning. To tackle the size challenge, distributed storage architectures are required. Cloud computing is an emerging paradigm massively adopted in many applications for the scalability, fault-tolerance and elasticity features it provides. this tutorial discusses the problems involved in efficiently handling massive amounts of RDF data in a cloud environment. We provide the necessary background, analyze and classify existing solutions, and discuss open problems and perspectives.

Finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is a robust and accurate algorithm which is widely used in computational electromagnetic field and the simulation of optical phenomenon. In this paper, parallel FDTD based on overlapped domain decomposition is used to simulate the band gap of photonic crystals and the quantum efficiency of thin-film solar cells. the light-trapping effect is also analyzed by parallel FDTD, it's very important to improve light absorption. Numerical result demonstrates that the accuracy and the speedup of parallel FDTD are very high for large scale problem.
