the Possibilistic Latent Variable (PLV) clustering algorithm is a powerful tool for the analysis of complex datasets due to its robustness toward data distributions of different types and its ability to accurately identify the inherent clusters within the data. the scaling coefficient in the PLV algorithm plays a key role in reducing the effects of noise, thereby improving the precision of the clustering results. However, the optimal value of the scaling parameter varies depending on the population type of dataset. Accordingly, the current study proposes an evaluation method for evaluating suitable values of the scaling parameter. the relative comparison of each method is then examined by conducting PLV clustering trials using datasets comprising data of different types and patterns.

Large scale, rapid and accurate protein identification is the crucial basis for further protein analysis in computational proteomics. Searching protein database by use of the protein tandem mass spectra has been a standard solution for solving this problem. though several algorithms have been proposed, more sensitive and accurate approaches are still needed. In this paper, an effective database search approach is proposed. Prior to searching sequence database, an approach based on a graph-theoretic model is proposed to infer the peptide sequence tag (PST) from the tandem mass spectra data which is the partial sequence of the peptide. Also, an index approach for the protein sequence database is proposed for speeding up the database search and filtering out the incorrect protein sequences. then, a novel scoring method for evaluating the match between the peptide sequence tag and the protein sequence is proposed for improving the accuracy of the database search result. Finally, we develop an algorithm for solving the problem and implement it as a computer program Pep Check. All the results of Pep Check are compared withthose of the famous algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate that Pep Check is as accurate as or more accurate than them withthe test datasets.

Monte Carlo simulations of OCT images of cornea and retina was performed for various setup parameters. Several models of cornea and retina were implemented;the optical parameters or the model were chosen basing on the experimental results. Obtained simulated image exhibits qualitative agreement withthe experimental ones allowing for preliminary numerical study of OCT technique for ocular structure and ophthalmologic diseases diagnostics.

From biochemical reaction principles, a genetic regulatory network can be described by a group of nonlinear differential equations with time delays. Previous studies have investigated delay-independent stability of genetic regulatory networks with time delays. However, if it is delay-independently stable, a genetic regulatory network loses other interesting properties such as oscillation. In this paper, we provide a computational method for computing the maximal delay interval over which the genetic regulatory network maintains stability, and beyond which the network will not be stable. Furthermore we prove that when its delay is exactly the maximal delay the network is oscillated. In addition, the formula for calculating the oscillation period is presented. the autoregulatory genetic network in zebrafish is used as an example to illustrate the presented method. the oscillation period calculated from our method is very close to that observed from the real-life of a zebrafish, which indicates the effectiveness of our method.

the wavelet entropy (WE) of rest electroencephalogram (EEG) and of event-related potentials (ERP) carries information about the degree of order or disorder associated with a multi-frequency brain electrophysiological activity. In the present study, WE, relative WE and WE change were estimated for the EEG and ERP signals recorded during a working memory task, from dyslectic children and healthy subjects. the analysis of the two groups (controls vs dyslectics) revealed differentiations mainly in relative WE and WE change that takes into account the variability of rest EEG. these findings indicate that the WE can be employed as a quantitative measure for monitoring EEG and ERP activities and may provide a useful tool in analyzing electrophysiological signals associated with dyslexia.
