Processing rapidly growing data encompasses complex workflows that utilize the Cloud for high-performance computing and the Fog and Edge devices for low-latency communication. For example, autonomous driving applications require inspection, recognition, and classification of road signs for safety inspection assessments, especially on crowded roads. Such applications are among the famous research and industrial exploration topics in computer vision and machine learning. In this work, we design a road sign inspection workflow consisting of 1) encoding and framing tasks of video streams captured by camera sensors embedded in the vehicles, and 2) convolutional neural network (CNN) training and inference models for accurate visual object recognition. We explore a matching theoretic algorithm named CODA [1] to place the workflow on the computing continuum, targeting the workflow processing time, data transfer intensity, and energy consumption as objectives. Evaluation results on a real computing continuum testbed federated among four Cloud, Fog, and Edge providers reveal that CODA achieves 50%- 60% lower completion time, 33%-59% lower CO2 emissions, and 19%- 45% lower data transfer intensity compared to two stateof-the-art methods.

Aiming at the problems of low detection speed, high leakage rate, and reduced detection speed after migrating to embedded devices in the workshop object detection task, an improved object detection algorithm for YOLOv7 is proposed. In the improved algorithm, a lightweight ShuffleNetv2 network is introduced to improve the YOLOv7 algorithm based on the YOLOv7 network framework. Since the ReLU function is used in the ShuffleNetv2 network, and the ReLU function will cause neuron "necrosis"during the training process, the SiLU activation function in the YOLOv7 network structure is used to replace the ReLU function in ShuffleNetv2, which meets the accuracy rate and at the same time has a better performance. therefore, the SiLU activation function in the YOLOv7 network structure is used to replace the ReLU function in ShuffleNetv2, which can satisfy the accuracy and at the same time have better detection speed. the experimental results show that the accuracy of the improved algorithm on the test set Precision (P) reaches 91.7%, Recall (R) reaches 81.4%, and mean Average Precision (mAP) increases by 2.9 percentage points. the improved algorithm can effectively guarantee the detection speed in the real scene detection task, and at the same time reduce the leakage rate to a great extent, showing good detection performance. © 2023 ieee.

Quantum applications are usually hybrid, i.e., they require executing quantum programs and classical programs, e.g., performing pre- or post-processing tasks. To benefit from advantages, such as robustness, reliability, or scalability, these programs can be orchestrated using quantum workflows. However, modeling quantum-specific tasks in workflows is complex and requires deep technical and mathematical knowledge. Furthermore, additional steps have to be performed before executing the workflow, e.g., the deployment and binding of the needed services. In this demonstration, we present the MODULO framework, providing a workflow modeling extension easing the modeling of quantum workflows. It comprises an integrated toolchain to graphically model quantum workflows, transform and package them in a self-contained archive, and automatically deploying the workflows together with their required services.

this paper proposes an approach for building scalable AI applications in digital health, with a specific focus on addressing interoperability, consent and ethics challenges. these challenges need to be considered in the context of increasingly available tooling for streamlined model development, training, validation, and deployment, while accommodating novel solutions for explainable AI support for clinicians. Such an approach is required because digital health ecosystems involve many data type created by different systems, and often used as part of workflows over different jurisdictional boundaries. Interoperability solutions are needed to support technical and business agreements between parties providing data and services, including knowledge intensive services, such as ML and AI. Computable expression of consent and ethics policies are needed to control how patient information is used, including compliance with regulative rules, possibly from different policy contexts. Our approach, based on the latest interoperability and enterprise policy standards may provide a useful guidance for the practitioners building scalable AI solutions for digital health.

In the past decades, a broad range of technological innovations have helped organizations reach new levels of performance and have shaped the economies of the world and societies of the future. However, unexpected events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the blocking of the Suez Canal, have shown that many organizations are unprepared to deal with the impact of the disturbances that can occur. thus, organizations are challenged to include resilience in the design of their Information Systems and enterprise Architectures (EAs). We respond to this challange and propose a five-step method aimed to help organizations design resilient enterprise architectures to be able to better deal with (un-) expected disturbances. Our method builds upon the 'EA resilience by design' paradigm, combines knowledge from several domains, namely resilience, risk analysis, and EA, and leverages the ArchiMate 3.1 language to model several resilience characteristics. Using a case study at a leading manufacturing organization in the agri-food sector in Lithuania, we demonstrate the applicability of our method and draw some early lessons learned based on our very first evaluation with experts.

Ship Detection in remotely sensed satellite imagery is a challenging task due to tiny size of the objects and low resolution of the images. Several object detection methods that perform very well for medium-sized and large-sized objects, miserable fail to perform decently in such applications. From the vast variety of the models available, few You only look once (YOLO) have proven to yield decent efficiency and accuracy in ship detection in satellite images. Hence, the paper proposes to detect and classify ships in remotely sensed satellite images by applying transfer learning to fine-tune the latest YOLO-Neural Architecture Search (YOLO-NAS) model. To the best of our knowledge this paper is the first attempt to test YOLO-NAS model for ship detection in satellite imagery. To demonstrate the strength of the YOLO NAS model, the paper also trains YOLOv5 and YOLOv8 on the same dataset allowing to comprehensively compare the efficiency of the proposed model against previous state-of-art versions. the findings demonstrate high mean average precision scores for the proposed model, indicating the effectiveness of the YOLO-NAS algorithm in accurately locating ships in satellite images. © 2023 ieee.

In this study, we consider projects for the development of machine learning (ML) service systems that apply ML techniques to enterprise functions, and propose a method of representing the architecture and design patterns for ML service systems. Based on the proposed method, we represent the items described in the pattern documents as elements in the enterprise architecture modeling and derived a generic model for ML architecture and designed patterns. By applying the proposed method and the generic pattern model, we analyze an existing ML design pattern and represent it as a model. through modeling practice, we confirm that an effective use scenario occurs when using the represented model during the project activities, and we can revise or enhance the pattern documents consistently by applying the model.

Mobile-based collaborative social computing applications represent an alternative to the server-centric models currently offered by major IT vendors, where users own the information they generate and take control over how other users access and exploit it. In this context, trust is fundamental for sharing information and making decisions based on the data collected from other users. this work develops a trust management system embedded in the Digital Avatars framework for collaborative social computing applications, using Subjective logic. It enables explicit representation and operation with trust information about both service providers (functional trust) and other users' opinions about these providers (referral trust) in peer-to-peer environments. the proposal is specified using high-level models that can also be simulated and validated, and serve as a guide for the corresponding implementations in an existing social computing application platform. the proposed solution has been successfully applied in a collaborative carpooling system, where users need to trust other users with whom they share travels.

the majority of object detection methods typically depend on a significant quantity of annotated data, while few-shot object detection (FSOD) endeavors to identify novel classes of objects using a limited number of training instances. However, the limited number of samples leads to the problem of disparate data distributions between the source and target domains, which makes the generalization ability of the detector usually weak. In this paper, we combine data augmentation with fine-tuning to design a pseudo-labeled constrained model called LCDA, aiming to obtain high-quality pseudo-labels to effectively enrich the training examples. Furthermore, we leverage the pre-trained CLIP model to enhance the quality of pseudo-labels by restricting the category information as well as the designed bounding box consistency criterion. the experimental outcomes demonstrate that our model outperforms the existing models on two public datasets across various shot scenarios. the average enhancement of our method on different shots is 1.2AP, 1.6AP, 2.3AP, 2.7AP, and 4.2AP. We also validate the performance of the model in real applications of the USV dataset which shows an improvement of 1.9AP over the baseline methods. All demonstrate the effectiveness of our model. © 2023 ieee.

For the last 20 years, enterprise architecture management (EAM) was primarily an instrument for harmonizing and consolidating IT landscapes and is lived as a transformation and governance discipline. It, however, is rather related to IT strategy than aligned to the actual corporate strategy and the work of the enterprise architect is characterized by tasks like prescribing, monitoring, documenting, and controlling. As digital transformation continues apace, companies are facing new challenges that lead to a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. To face these challenges, vision, understanding, clarity and agility allow to anticipative and implement necessary changes. this, of course, has implications for the role of the enterprise architect. S/he needs to start actively supporting innovation and taking more of an advisory role instead of just being driven by the current state of the enterprise architecture. this paper investigates the role of the enterprise architect in the VUCA world. Based on current literature and expert interviews, a survey was conducted among consultants who work as (or with) enterprise architects. Survey results include the evaluation of statements on current tasks of enterprise architects, their influence on projects and companies as well as future requirements on the roles of the enterprise architect. the results from the survey were synthesized with the findings from literature to derive the roles, tasks and skills of enterprise architect in the VUCA world.
