A real-time database is a database in which both the data and the operations upon the data may have timing constraints. the design of this kind of database requires the introduction of new concepts to modelize both data structures and the dynamic behavior of the database. In this paper, we propose an UML2.0 profile, entitled UML-RTDB, allowing the design of structural model for a real-time database. One of the main advantages of UML-RTDB is its capacity to take into account real-time database properties through specialized concepts in rigourous, easy and expressive manner.

Integration of system components is a crucial challenge in the design of embedded real-time systems, as complex non-functional interdependencies may exist. [20] presented a framework, enabling autonomous verification of timing properties in the system itself. the work presented in this paper, takes that approach one step further, enabling autonomuous assignment of execution priorities under timing constraints. We present a distributed heuristic algorithm for the constraint statisfaction problem (CSP) of finding feasible priority assignments in static priority preemptive (SPP) scheduled hard real-time systems. the proposed heuristic considers end-to-end path latency constraints in arbitrary task graphs mapped on arbitrary platform graphs.

For real-time systems we need time-predictable processors. this paper presents a method cache as a time-predictable solution for instruction caching. the method cache caches whole methods (or functions) and simplifies worst-case execution time analysis. We have integrated the method cache in the time-predictable processor Patmos. We evaluate the method cache with a large set of embedded benchmarks. Most benchmarks show a good hit rate for a method cache size in the range between 4 and 16 KB.

In this paper, we describe a XML based profile for modeling the semantics of real time systems. We aim to use real time Markup Language (RTML) to provide a comprehensive description of temporal properties for the use in distributed systems communication. RTML is derived from a number of specifications including OMG UML Profile in Schedulability, Performance, and time. In this paper, we discuss the technique that was used to develop RTML semantic model and the important concepts in RTML.

Requirements of high integrity systems now encompass distribution mechanisms along with strong functional and non-functional features (run-time support for hardware, dependability, safety, analyzability). Conditional real-time task models, which are generalizations of periodic, sporadic, and multi-frame tasks, represent real world applications more accurately. these models can be classified based on a tradeoff in two dimensions - expressivity and hardness of schedulability analysis. In this work, we introduce a class of conditional task models and derive efficient schedulability analysis techniques for them. these models are more expressive than existing models for which efficient analysis techniques are known. In this work, we also lay the groundwork for schedulability analysis of hierarchical scheduling frameworks with conditional task models. We propose techniques that abstract timing requirements of conditional task models, and support compositional analysis using these abstractions.

In this paper we describe our approach for developing a QoS-aware, dependable execution environment for large-scale distributed stream processing applications. distributed stream processing applications have strong timeliness and security demands. In particular, we address the following challenges: (1) propose a real-time dependable execution model by extending the component-based execution model with real-time and dependability properties, and (2) develop QoS-aware application composition and adaptation techniques that employ resource management strategies and security policies when discovering and selecting application components. Our approach enables us to develop a distributed stream processing environment that is predictable, secure, flexible and adaptable.

AADL is an architecture description language intended for model-based engineering of high-integrity systems. the AADL Behavior Annex is an extension allowing the refinement of behavioral aspects described through AADL. When implementing distributed real-time Embedded system, fault tolerance concerns are integrated by applying replication patterns. We considered a simplified design of the primary backup replication pattern to express the modeling capabilities of AADL and its annex. Our contribution intends to give accurate description of the synchronization mechanisms integrated in this example.

In order to realize hierarchical routings that should be executed in large-scaled mobile ad hoc networks that vary their topologies considerably with time, we have developed autonomous clustering with high scalability and adaptability. In autonomous clustering, an entire network is divided into disjoint subnetworks (called clusters), and they are maintained by periodically sending messages within the clusters. this paper proposes real-time self-organizing autonomous clustering, in which interval and power for transmitting such messages are dynamically changed depending on variation of mobility and density of the clusters. Since their mobility and density can be estimated by local information obtained in the clusters and according to their respective change the clusters are self-organized in real-time way, the proposed real-time self-organizing autonomous clustering can contribute to enhancement of its scalability and adaptability.
