this paper presents an implementation of a cellular neural/nonlinear network (CNN) with capacitively coupled neurons that are based on the floating-gate MOSFET (FG-MOS) technology. the circuit is intended for processing black and white (B/W) images. A neuron state is determined by charge distribution in the input of a FG-MOS inverter. the capacitive couplings to the neighbors are one-bit programmable, while the bias template can be programmed with two bits. Also, a fixed state map (transient mask) is included in the cell. the operation of an 8/spl times/8 network is illustrated by simulations of selected templates.

In this paper, a nonself-feedback ratio memory cellular nonlinear network (RMCNN) without elapsed operation is proposed and implemented in CMOS for image pattern learning and recognition. In the non-self-feedback RMCNN, the self-feedback template coefficient is not used and operation of non-self-feedback RMCNN can be simplified. the final weights of template A are generated directly after learning by incorporating the ratio-memory function into the learning rule so that no elapsed period is required for ratio memory. In the proposed RMCNN, simple multiplication circuit and comparator circuit are used and the chip area can be reduced. the pattern learning and recognition behavior of the proposed RMCNN is simulated by Matlab and Hspice. It is found that the performance is the same as that of RMCNN with elapsed operation.

A conception of practical works for teaching design and test of digital circuits is presented. the works cover essential topics in testing and diagnostics field. they are meant for improving the skills of students to be educated for hardware and SoC design in test related topics. Six practical works are described. the works are based on two diagnostic software packages that were developed at Tallinn Technical University and Kharkov National Technical University of Radio electronics. A brief description of these packages is given. All the training materials can be accessed over the Internet and therefore can be used by students at any time and any place. the free-access basis and self-contained nature makes it much easier to implement this course in foreign universities with a minimum of help from our side.
