Knowledge is a core resource for agile organisations that is transformed into products and services during the development process. Sharing of knowledge is essential across any organisation, and it has been claimed that the software industry requires more knowledge management than any other sector. agile methodologies concentrate on team level collaboration, and some techniques for inter-team knowledge sharing have also proved to be successful. But these techniques focus on within-team and between-team knowledge sharing rather than knowledge sharing across the organisation. this paper presents the results of a survey with 81 responses on organisational knowledge sharing in a multinational agile company. the survey focuses on three aspects of knowledge sharing: within agile teams, beyond the team with company colleagues, and with customers. It concentrates on knowledge sharing practices, ease of knowledge sharing and motivation for knowledge sharing. Summary statistics, regression, and test of equity are used as analysis techniques. Results show that knowledge sharing with team members is significantly easier than with customers or company colleagues beyond their team. In addition, using agile practices improves ease of knowledge sharing within teams but not with customers or colleagues. Extrinsic motivators need to be in place to encourage knowledge sharing across the organisation, especially where such knowledge sharing is not an automatic consequence of completing the work.

software processes have evolved significantly since the first formal appearance of software engineering. the academia and the industry have introduced, embraced or rejected various methodologies that are more or less efficient in theory and in practice. A current popular trend can be found in agile methodologies widely adopted in the last decade. Since software processes are constantly evolving, it is vital to see how they evolve over time. this work presents the current state of the adoption of agile methodologies with an emphasis on Scrum development method. Study results from 44 different countries were collected during the months of March and April 2012. the results are enlightening in order to understand how agile development and Scrum are viewed today, to see where their success factors lie, discover if they offer benefits in comparison to heavyweight approaches and discuss their future evolution.

this workshop explored the main research challenges in conducting agile software development in large-scale software development. We considered multi-site companies with projects that include a large number of teams which develop sophisticated systems by adopting and using agile methods. Such topics include inter-team coordination, knowledge sharing, agile transformations, and project management models that facilitate multiple cooperating self-organising teams. the keynote talk, by Darja Smite, provided empirical results on communities of practice within the music streaming service Spotify. We accepted five full research papers which are included in this volume. these five papers report empirical research studies using surveys, observational and case studies. Workshop participants also worked together in groups to establish current research topics and priorities. this workshop summary contributes a current snapshot of research along with future research agendas in the field of large-scale agile development.

agile software development has a good track record, but only when the project size is limited. Requirement engineering (RE) is critical because "Requirements" play a critical role at each stage of the lifecycle of software. agile supports changing customer requirements while adding value to the business, it also comes with its own set of obstacles, many of which are connected to requirement constraints. this study seeks to uncover the issues that agile project requirements engineers confront. Many research studies on requirement issues have been undertaken, all of which are compromised in some way, offer no suggestions for improving the agile development process, and fail to reveal massive agile development hurdles. this paper addresses all the issues raised above and suggests possible solutions from the standpoint of requirement engineering and results can be extremely beneficial to the software business in terms of improving development processes, as well as individuals who would like to continue working in this area. © 2023 IEEE.

agile software development describes those software systems which undergo rapid changes as a result of the testing and requirements fulfillment processes. this development technique came into view in order to overcome the drawbacks of long software life cycles of traditional development methods. this paper investigates the effects of agile practices on the quality of the produced software systems. We have used 20 open and closed source systems of various sizes and functionalities. While the development process of 9 of the studied systems followed agile approaches, the rest were developed using traditional approaches. Firstly, a set of software metrics is generated to describe each system. the metrics encompass complexity and inheritance characteristics of the studied systems. Secondly, the generated metrics are used as predictors of the type of the followed development process using binary logistic regression. the obtained high goodnessof- fit measures show the strong relationship between the used metrics and the type of the followed development process. More specifically, the study reveals that following agile practices has a great impact on lack of cohesion of methods, fan in and maximum depth of inheritance tree. Information systems supporting flexible business in small-to-medium enterprises must be easily modifiable under the supervision of their users. the users (business people) must take active part in agile system development and maintenance. the systems must be able to integrate large legacy systems and to communicate with the systems of independent business partners. Business processes need not be executed by a single ERP. We discuss a variant of SOA able to meet these requirements. the discussed SOA uses communication protocols based on problem-oriented languages. We propose a concept of organizational (architectural) services generalizing the concept of connectors and routers. the power and usefulness of the proposal is demonstrated on the examples of service composition, business-oriented interfaces, agile business processes, portals, and gateways. the proposal is based on experience from practical SOA projects.

Since the rise of the light weight software processes, the paradigm on how software should be developed has started to shift. agile methods strive to supersede the traditional software process with its exhausting requirements elicitation at the beginning of a software development project, at least for smaller or younger companies. the software engineering group at the Universität Karlsruhe has accounted for this shift and extended their offer of lectures by an extreme Programming lab course held in cooperation with andrena objects ag. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

software startups are responsible for fast product delivery to the market. To aid this process, a retrospective inside a startup team can be very fruitful for software development. the traditional way of conducting agile retrospectives involves discussion based on what went well, what did not go well, and how to improve the software development cycle helps to save resources, get directed toward the startup vision, and overcome several challenges. To attain insights about the agile retrospective approach in startups, we studied the following question: How are software startups performing agile retrospectives? Hence, we conducted seven multiple case studies with 19 semi-structured interviews that lasted 30-65 min. the results outline that all software startups prefer a reflection through agile retrospectives but not in the traditional manner. Due to the startup's casual and less restricted working environment, teams prefer informal agile retrospectives, which involve no confined boundaries of time, venue, and participants.

Datafication processes, the ongoing strive for making organizations data-driven, have in recent years entailed data-focused software projects and more interdisciplinary teamwork. Simultaneously as agile product teams have been directed towards increased use of data for software development, stronger data protection regulations such as GDPR have further complexified the software developer role, whose responsibilities and expectations now expand far beyond mere coding. Seeking to develop an understanding of how data-intensive product teams in the public sector maneuver the legal hurdles emerging in the wake of data governance, this paper builds on 19 interviews with members of two agile product teams in the Norwegian organizations NAV and Entur. Our findings indicate that including a legal expert in the team can boost confidence in data handling practices and avoid delays in deliveries, but it requires effort to synchronize and overcome interdisciplinary barriers.

Little research has been done on enabling software development teams to self-report waste to assist in productivity improvement. this study created a waste categorization and survey for teams to identify and quantify wasteful activities. Developers from a Swiss company used the survey for three weeks. Participants found the survey helpful for identifying waste but there was little evidence that self-reported waste correlated with improved performance.
