Differential power processing (DPP) is a promising architecture to solve the issue caused by mismatches among PV submodules. With widely-researched of DPP architectures in the photovoltaic generation system (PGS), their reliability is being studied extensively. this paper presents a comparison of the reliability between PV-to-bus (PV-bus) and PV-to-isolated port bus (PV-IP) architecture. this work uses the Markov model to compare the long-term steady-state availability of PV-bus and PV-IP architectures. the mathematical model will be used to analyze the long-term availability of these two DPP architectures. the power distribution in these two architectures under different partial shading conditions (PSCs) will be considered as an important factor to affect the reliability of the system.

the multilayer (ML) graph model provides a robust representation of multi-sourced relationships among real-world entities, laying a solid foundation for reliable knowledge discovery. ML core decomposition is a fundamental analytical tool for ML graphs. It offers valuable insights into the dense structures in ML graphs and forms the basis for many complex analysis tasks. However, existing ML core decomposition algorithms face performance issues due to unavoidably unnecessary computations and are inherently serial, unable to fully leverage the multi-core processors. In this paper, we reformulate the search space of this problem with a tree-shaped structure called MLC-tree. Based on it, we present an efficient serial ML core decomposition algorithm that achieves improved time complexity over existing solutions and the first parallel framework for this problem by exploiting the path-decomposition of the MLC-tree. Two practical optimizations are introduced to further boost the parallel efficiency. To facilitate applications built upon ML cores, we construct a compact storage and index structure for ML cores based on the MLC-tree. the usefulness of this index is showcased through two applications: ML core search and a novel weighted densest sub graph discovery problem. Extensive experiments on 9 real-world ML graphs show that our MLC-tree-based ML core decomposition algorithm achieves a speedup of up to $128\times$ over existing baselines and the parallel approach attains an additional speedup of up to $30.6\times$ using 40 cores. Moreover, the MLC-tree index can efficiently support the studied applications.

Voice and speech pattern analysis can help improve conversational and persuading abilities, especially in situations or applications where direct face-to-face human engagement is not possible or preferable. this paper proposes methods for accurately predicting emotions. in a voice sample. Additive white Gaussian noise is added to avoid overfitting and create real-environment sound. this paper uses the Mel spectrogram to extract features. Multilayer Perceptron, 1D-CNN, 2D-CNN, and transformer-based parallel CNN have been used to appropriately classify human emotions from speech samples. Previously unseen, transformer-based architectures have had a breakthrough in recent times and using them in audio processing and emotion mapping is rather novel which we intend to do.

Solving partial differential equations on unstructured grids is a cornerstone of engineering and scientific computing. Nowadays, heterogeneous parallel platforms with CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs enable energy-efficient and computationally demanding simulations. We developed the HighPerMeshes C++-embedded Domain-Specific Language (DSL) for bridging the abstraction gap between the mathematical and algorithmic formulation of mesh-based algorithms for PDE problems on the one hand and an increasing number of heterogeneous platforms with their different parallel programming and runtime models on the other hand. thus, the HighPerMeshes DSL aims at higher productivity in the code development process for multiple target platforms. We introduce the concepts as well as the basic structure of the HighPerMeshes DSL, and demonstrate its usage with three examples, a Poisson and monodomain problem, respectively, solved by the continuous finite element method, and the discontinuous Galerkin method for Maxwell's equation. the mapping of the abstract algorithmic description onto parallel hardware, including distributed memory compute clusters, is presented. Finally, the achievable performance and scalability are demonstrated for a typical example problem on a multi-core CPU cluster.

Lattice sieving is currently the leading class of algorithms for solving the shortest vector problem over lattices. the computational difficulty of this problem is the basis for constructing secure post-quantum public-key cryptosystems based on lattices. In this paper, we present a novel massively parallel approach for solving the shortest vector problem using lattice sieving and hardware acceleration. We combine previously reported algorithms with a proper caching strategy and develop hardware architecture. the main advantage of the proposed approach is eliminating the overhead of the data transfer between a CPU and a hardware accelerator. the authors believe that this is the first such architecture reported in the literature to date and predict to achieve up to 8 times higher throughput when compared to a multi-core high-performance CPU. Presented methods can be adapted for other sieving algorithms hard to implement in FPGAs due to the communication and memory bottleneck.

We present robust high-performance implementations of signal-processing tasks performed by a high-throughput wildlife tracking system called ATLAS. the system tracks radio transmitters attached to wild animals by estimating the time of arrival of radio packets to multiple receivers (base stations). Time-of-arrival estimation of wide-band radio signals is computationally expensive, especially in acquisition mode (when the time of transmission of not known, not even approximately). these computation are a bottleneck that limits the throughput of the system. the paper reports on two implementations of ATLAS's main signal-processing algorithms, one for CPUs and the other for GPUs, and carefully evaluates their performance. the evaluations indicates that the GPU implementation dramatically improves performance and power-performance relative to our baseline, a high-end desktop CPU typical of the computers in current base stations. Performance improves by more than 50X on a high-end GPU and more than 4X with a GPU platform that consumes almost 5 times less power than the CPU platform. Performance-per-Watt ratios also improve (by more than 16X), and so do the price-performance ratios.

In today’s industrial landscape, automation has become increasingly vital, particularly in the deployment of robots for tasks such as sorting machine components. the use of robotic systems enhances process accuracy and speed, resulting in significant cost reductions and improved productivity compared to manual labor. this paper aims to design and develop an automated sorting system for various types of mechanical and electrical parts, utilizing image processing and machine vision algorithms with a Delta parallel robot equipped with a two-finger gripper. the target mechanical and electrical parts in this study are screws, nuts, metal washers, rubber washers, retaining rings, rectangular keys, wall plugs, resistors, potentiometers, capacitors, batteries, ICs, and LEDs. the YOLOv3 algorithm and Adaptive thresholding method are employed to detect and distinguish objects from the background, and size measurement is achieved with the help of a custom marker with known dimensions. In this study, transfer learning based on pre-trained weights of YOLOv3 for the COCO dataset is applied. the proposed system attains a final mean Average Precision (mAP@0.5) value exceeding 0.95 for part detection using YOLOv3. Additionally, it demonstrates an overall pick-and-place success rate exceeding $\mathbf{9 0 \%}$.

Scientific workflows are increasingly important for complex scientific applications. Recently, Function as a Service (FaaS) has emerged as a platform for processing non-interactive tasks. FaaS (such as AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Functions) can play an important role in processing scientific workflows. A number of works have demonstrated their ability to process these workflows. However, some issues were identified when workflows executed on cloud functions due to their limits (e.g., stateless behaviour). A major issue is the additional data transfer during the execution between object storage and the FaaS invocation environment. this leads to increased communication costs. DEWE v3 is one of the Workflow Management Systems (WMSs) that already had foundations for processing workflows with cloud functions. In this paper, we have modified the job dispatch algorithm of DEWE v3 on a function environment to reduce data dependency transfers. Our modified algorithm schedules jobs with precedence constraints to be executed in a single function invocation. therefore, later jobs can utilise output files generated from their predecessor job in the same invocation. this reduces the makespan of workflow execution. We have evaluated the improved scheduling algorithm and the original with small- and large-scale Montage workflows. the experimental results show that our algorithm can reduce the overall makespan in contrast to the original DEWE v3 by about 10%.

Tangle is a novel directed acyclic graph (DAG)-based distributed ledger preferred over traditional linear ledgers in blockchain applications because of better transaction throughput. Earlier techniques have mostly focused on comparing the performance of graph chains over linear chains and incorporating the Markov Chain Monte Carlo process in probabilistic traversals to detect unverified transactions in DAG chains. In this paper, we present a parallel detection method for unverified transactions. Experimental evaluation of the proposed parallel technique demonstrates a significant, scalable average speed-up of close to 70%, and a peak speed-up of approximately 73% for a large number of transactions.
