Computer models have been used as a bridge between parallel algorithms and hardware architectures. the Bulk-Synchronous parallel (BSP) is a well-known computing model originally devised for distributed algorithms running on clusters of single-core processors. the Multi-BSP model, that extends the classic BSP model, was recently proposed for multi-core processors. However, this model - implemented through the MulticoreBSP-for-C library-presents some restrictions such as the explicit synchronizations between the cores, introducing some challenges on which the hardware characteristics should be taken into account to properly model the parallel algorithms. therefore, we explore the suitability of these models for the Dell multi-core architecture. the objectives of this contribution are twofold. First, we model two different multi-core Dell architectures. Second, we show that a simple model with few parameters can be easily adapted to each Dell platform rather than complex models which tends to use tricky hardware parameters.

the present article is devoted to the issue of improvement of utilization efficiency of modern information technologies in order to enhance the quality and safety of healthcare delivery. the introduction of Real-time Locating Systems (RTLS), in particular Radio Frequency Identification System (RFID), applied in conjunction with intelligent data processing system can reduce the severity of the consequences of event risks implementation, as well as avoidance of a number of such consequences. the authors of the present article suggest using mathematical tools of fuzzy logic theory for event analysis in online mode and recommendation formation on their basis for timely management decision-taking. Versatile Video Coding (VVC) is called to be the successor of the current State-of-the-art video standard, HEVC. the target is to provide better compression ratios, therefore increasing the complexity of the algorithms and the computational power requirements. In this scenario, the challenge is the better handling of the parallelism. In this paper, a first approach to the migration of some of the new functionalities of VVC to different embedded platforms using OpenMP is performed. Results, obtained over three different platforms, show how OpenMP is a competitive solution regarding POSIX in most of the cases.

We consider the loop less k-shortest path (KSP) problem. Although this problem has been studied in the sequential setting for at least the last two decades, no good parallel implementations are known. In this paper, we provide (i) a first systematic empirical comparison of various KSP algorithms and heuristic optimisations, (ii) carefully engineer various parallel implementations of these sequential algorithms and (iii) perform an extensive study of these parallel implementations on a range of graph classes and multicore architectures to determine the best algorithm and parallelization strategy for different graph classes. We find that even though the worst-case complexity of the best undirected KSP algorithm O (k (m + n log n)) is significantly better than that of the popular and considerably simpler directed KSP algorithm O(kn(m + n log n)), the two algorithms are fairly competitive in terms of their empirical performance on small diameter graphs. Furthermore, we show that a few simple optimisations help to bridge the gap between these KSP algorithms even more. However, on moderate to large diameter graphs, the undirected KSP algorithm is considerably faster than the directed algorithms, both in sequential and parallel settings. In terms of the parallelisation strategy, simply replacing the shortest path subroutine by parallel A-stepping algorithm can provide a good speed-up for many KSP algorithms on random graphs. In contrast, for graphs with skewed degree distribution, a more complex strategy of parallelizing the different deviations and then parallelizing the shortest path computation inside the deviations with the remaining threads, provides a better performance.

the Gurevich's thesis stipulates that sequential abstract state machines (ASMS) capture the essence of sequential algorithms. On another hand, the bulk-synchronous parallel (BSP) bridging model is a well known model for HPC algorithm design. It provides a conceptual bridge between the physical implementation of the machine and the abstraction available to a programmer of that machine. the assumptions of the BSP model are thus provide portable and scalable performance predictions on most HPC systems. We follow Gurevich's thesis and extend the sequential postulates in order to intuitively and realistically capture BSP algorithms.

Smart agriculture is one of the most diverse research. In addition, the quantity of data to be stored and the choice of the most efficient algorithms to process are significant elements in this field. the storage of collecting data from Internet of things (IoT), existing on distributed, local databases and open data need a particular infrastructure to federate all these data to make complex treatments. the storage of this wide range of data that comes at high frequency and variable throughput is particularly difficult. In this paper, we propose the use of distributed databases and high-performance computing architecture in order to exploit multiple re-configurable computing and application specific processing such as CPUs, GPUs, TPUs and FPGAs efficiently. this exploitation allows an accurate training for an application to machine learning, deep learning and unsupervised modeling algorithms. the last ones are used for training supervised algorithms on images when it labels a set of images and unsupervised algorithms on IoT data which are unlabeled with variable qualities. the processing of data is based on Hadoop 3.1 MapReduce to achieve parallel processing and use containerization technologies to distribute treatments on Multi GPU, MIC and FPGA. this architecture allows efficient treatments of data coming from several sources with a cloud high-performance heterogeneous architecture. the proposed 4 layers infrastructure can also implement FPGA and MIC which are now natively supported by recent version of Hadoop. Moreover, with the advent of new technologies like Intel (R) Movidius (TM);it is now possible to deploy CNN at the Fog level in the IoT network and to make inference with the cloud and therefore limit significantly the network traffic that result in reducing the move of large amounts of data to the cloud. this paper describes a method for processing natural text and assigning meaning to it without the need of any a priori linguistic knowledge. the semiotic cognitive automaton is driven only by the observations it makes and operates based solely on grounded symbols. An experiment of learning from one book in the English language is detailed, where certain paradigms of words are first formed thanks to side effects occurring in samples of text and then connected to functions and structures part of the internal reality of the automaton by way of meta-reasoning. Making use of the reflectivity of a functional language is envisaged to fully specify the reflection engine component of the automaton. In wait of a complete software specification, it is possible to carry out a mental experiment to validate the capabilities of the automaton. the method is general enough to learn semantics in multiple domains and lies the foundation of Semiotic Artificial Intelligence. Current neural network approaches mostly consider the synaptic signal transfer as a basis of interneuronal communication. At the same time, extrasynaptic signaling plays important role in the animal behavior. In the paper processes of information distortion during the extrasynaptic mixing are studied using braid theory. An approach to the procedural generation of deep neural networks incorporating properties of extrasynaptic information dynamics is proposed. (C) 2018 the Authors. Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are related to the integration of computing and communication capabilities into physical systems. An example of CPSs is the smart city model, which is growing around the prototype of an urban (physical) environment with a new generation of innovative services for transportation, energy distribution, healthcare, environmental monitoring, business, emergency response, and social activities developed in its digital twins. Smart cities are also an example of how CPSs must include the presence of people, which can't be neglected in the loop of producing, collecting and consuming data, information and services. Enabling the technology for such a setting requires a viewpoint of Smart Cities as system of cyber-physical and social systems (CPSSs) which are the result of the integration of several technologies that cooperate to provide seamless services to end users. Such technologies enable the collection, storage, and processing of massive amount of data gathered from the environment and/or produced by citizens themselves. Social interactions amongst participants are promoted as well. CPSS 2019 wants to present innovative research trends and to explore new challenges in the field of smart cities as a system of cyber - physical systems crossed with the social perspective. the aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers, practitioners, smart city operators and industries working in the field in order to cross-fertilize theoretical and practical aspects.
