Product design has a major, often under-estimated impact on sustainability. this article describes the process of a new sustainable product design aiming for integrating circular engineering and social aspects as an integral part of the design process. A methodology is presented that enables a holistic, systematic approach to product development with the product design goal of a ‘Circular System’ with three subordinates but interdependent key elements: the ‘Product’, its ‘Life Cycle System’ and the related ‘Context System’. Social and ecological responsibility is integrated into product design from the beginning, ending up in a cyclic ‘Convergent Creation Model’. the associated methodology can be understood as a valuable opportunity to structure and control the complexity of sustainable product design for circularity. Two representative use cases - an established high-volume circular product (smart water metering unit) and a strategic design and R&D perspective on "green" robots, contributing as sustainably engineered production systems to zero emission production – are discussed. Both demonstrators for the general applicability of the proposed ‘Circular System design’ approach underline the potential of the methodology for advanced sustainable systems engineering in different phases of product design and circular production. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Firstly, A new type of lower limb knee joint Bowden cables driven exoskeleton has been designed. In response to the problem that previous rope driven exoskeletons could not achieve bidirectional assistance using only a single Bowden cable, a bidirectional transmission mechanism was designed using two Bowden cables, ultimately achieving bidirectional assistance function for the knee joint. Finite element analysis was conducted on the key components of this exoskeleton; Secondly, regarding the control part of the exoskeleton, the author designed an adaptive filter by combining fast Fourier transform and adaptive minimum mean square algorithm, which achieved precise tracking of exoskeleton motion and optimized the human-computer interaction experience; design experiments to analyze and evaluate the assist performance of this exoskeleton. Under the condition of no load, the assist efficiency of the exoskeleton varies between 13.27% and 0.86% when running at speeds ranging from 4km/h to 14km/h; When walking at a constant speed of 4km/h and with a load ranging from 5kg to 25kg, the assist efficiency of the exoskeleton varies between 8.38% and 0.49%. In addition, some tests were conducted on the comfort of wearing exoskeletons, and the test results showed that the comfort of wearing exoskeletons is good, and there is still some room for optimization.

When looking for certain kinds of software bugs, successive versions of software are compared. Performance-related bugs are a notable example. Methods used for detecting such bugs are, however, expensive and need to be applied carefully. At the same time, current software development is rapid, with new software versions released everyday. In this paper, we aim at two particular ways how to optimize difference analyses of performance (but possibly other aspects of the software too) of successive software versions. Namely, we propose (1) an efficient layered representation of the program control flow spanning across the program history, and (2) methods for efficient matching of pairs of corresponding functions in different software versions and for selecting those whose differential analysis should be performed. We have implemented our approach and performed experiments on two selected versions of the CPython project. the results indicate that our approach is a promising direction for improving the performance analysis of real world programs. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

this study presents the design of a Darrieus-Savonius wind turbine integrated with rotary-linear generator. the system combines the aerodynamic upgrades of the Darrieus rotor with the self-starting capability of the Savonius rotor, coupled with a rotary-linear generator to enhance power generation. Both the rotary and linear generators use a gear train to amplify rotational and linear motion for additional power output. the linear generator incorporates a Scotch -Yoke mechanism, which works alongside the rotary generator. the wind turbine system also features IoT -based wireless monitoring for real-time data acquisition, using INA219 sensors to measure current, voltage, and power, with the Blynk App for remote monitoring. the system was tested under both controlled and uncontrolled wind conditions, and its performance was simulated in MATLAB Simulink for theoretical output prediction. During the uncontrolled test, three setups (morning, noon, and afternoon) were tested, with ANOVA analysis showing significant differences in power generation due to varying wind speeds, especially higher speeds in the afternoon. In the controlled test, the system was tested in a closed environment using an industrial fan simulating wind speeds of 2.4m/s, 3.2m/s, and 3.6m/s. the results indicated significant differences in power output, with system efficiencies of 33.27%,28.42%, and 27.59% for each wind speed, respectively.

In the paper we propose a method to determine parameters that appear in algebraic surface blending. By minimizing the surface energy and adding some point restrictions, we can select the free parameters such that a blending surface with reasonable shape is constructed. the method seems to be extensible for other surface blending problems, although we concentrate on algebraic surface blending.
