A central object of study in Human-computer Interaction is the User Interface (UI). the number of websites, papers, books, videos, and articles that attempt to explain the concept, attests this. In this study a collection of definitions of User Interface was assembled and classified seeking to identify parallels. Several queries were used in Google, Bing, digital libraries, and other sources. With more than 130 entries collected, we found that most of them concentrate in the elements of physical-sensorial contact between humans and artifacts. We called them thin definitions because they overlook elements of processing in the side of the computer, and perception, thinking, and understanding in the human side. thick definitions, that dig deeper into the concept, considering human and machine capabilities as part of the UI, are less numerous but important to study, advance, and promote. We will argue for the need of a new definition and propose one.

the paper considers computer simulation of the transmission lines that are used in telecommunications. Previously, the authors chose explicit Euler algorithm to perform transition from the system of differential equations to the difference one because of this algorithm's simplicity. Nevertheless, explicit Euler algorithm can accumulate errors. Because there are no analytical ways to assess the errors, this paper proposes using trapezoidal rule to secure transition from the system of differential equations to the one of difference. Two computer simulation models, one with explicit Euler algorithm and the other with Trapezoid rule, were compared for the same simulation scenario. the simulation setup involved video pulse transmission over the telecommunication line in the form of a coaxial cable. Obtained results prove that for the small time increment, the performances of the two computer simulation models are nearly identical, while for a bigger time increment the model based on the explicit Euler algorithm becomes unstable. the developed computer simulation model can be used in design and improvement of transmission lines in telecommunications. © 2022 IEEE.

Globally, glaucoma is now among the leading causes of blindness. It is a chronic, irreversible illness. Screening for glaucoma and detecting it early are crucial in the fight against this illness. Here, deep learning shows great promise. Two deep learning architectures, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model and the Improved Learning Strategy to Predict Glaucoma (ILSPG) model, have been evaluated in this article. In order to diagnose glaucoma, the DCNN method is utilized. Ultimately, this area of study aims to help doctors diagnose glaucoma by developing methods to spot the disease in retinal fundus pictures. Because glaucoma can have both beneficial and bad effects on the model, the result of the model might be good or bad. Several measures are utilized in the process of evaluating models, including accuracy, precision, specificity, and reliability. In order to determine the accuracy of the proposed model, an additional comparison study is conducted. the results are contrasted with a deep learning-based classification system that uses convolutional neural networks. the results demonstrate, without a doubt, that the proposed system is effective. © 2023 IEEE.

Innovation and entrepreneurship education is becoming one of the important goals of higher education in China. According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities, we propose a core principle of "from basis to comprehensiveness, and then to innovation" to construct the software design and programming practice course in the information and communication engineering discipline. We have integrated specialized knowledge teaching with innovation and entrepreneurship training, implemented a series of experimental projects that integrate theory with practice, and explored mixed teaching methods and diversified examination methods. Excessive irrigation causes adverse effects on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, resulting in a decrease in its fertility. therefore, the appropriate selection of irrigation methods is very important. Among these, furrow irrigation is found to be the most suitable alternative because of its high efficiency and low water consumption. the present work deals with the design, development, and simulation studies of a low-cost, fully automated, crop-independent, IoT-based furrow irrigation system. the system is designed by placing an array of wireless sensor nodes to investigate an adequate quantity of furrow flow rate and optimize it as per the requirements using a cloud computing platform. the designed system is advantageous in terms of saving water, benefiting crops, and subsiding soil degradation. the moisture sensors were deployed in the crop field with the help of a signal conditioning circuit interfaced with a microcontroller-integrated Wi-Fi module (ESP8266-NodeMCU). the said module was also connected to a solenoid valve to regulate the inflow rate and the thing Speak cloud computing platform. the WinSRFR 5.1.1 simulation tool was used to estimate the adequate amount of flow rate suitable for the crop and soil type. the cloud platform was used to acquire, store, and process data to forecast the ideal soil moisture levels for future crop development and soil health. the studies were carried out at a depth of 100 mm and by varying furrow length (50 to 150 m) in steps of 50m for four different soil types, namely coarse sand soil, sandy loam soil, silt loam soil, and black cotton-plowed soil, which are commonly observed in India. the simulation work in this paper indicates the effectiveness of this system that how we can reduce the water loss by low-cost, fully automated, crop-independent, IoT-based furrow irrigation system. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurate and fast whole cardiac substructures segmentation from Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is crucial in developing clinical applications, such as computer-aided surgery and computer-aided diagnosis. However, the segmentation of different substructures is challenging because of the amount of data that should be annotated by experts, the diversity of sizes and shapes of cardiac substructures, and the complexity of the background. this work aims to develop an automatic and fast whole heart segmentation including all cardiac substructures as well as the great vessels. the proposed approach used mainly image processing methods that enable the heart segmentation from sagittal, axial, and coronal views to obtain a 3D reconstruction. Finally, the experiments are conducted on both Automated Cardiac Diagnosis Challenge and CT scans acquired from a patient with COVID-19 at the Cheikh Zaid international University Hospital in Rabat Morocco. © 2022 IEEE.

the aim of this paper is to develop a new energy meter which can communicate with our phones so customers can know the units consumed time-to-time, bill amount need to pay and also gives warning if the energy consumed per month crossed our predetermined value. this can simply call a smart energy meter and to develop this we need a ESP32 microcontroller, sensors, Wi-Fi module with internet connection to communicate with the phone and Blynk platform to monitor units consumed and push warnings in mobile. this can simply be termed as Internet of things (IoT). this smart energy meter also helps the electricity department to initiate prepaid recharges for the no of energy units to be used and can also initiate auto cut off power supply to the home when there are no units left in the account and the customer should recharge again to get supply back to home. this can make customers more control on their consumption and the energy can be saved and the global environment is saved. © 2023 IEEE.

Despite a massive acceptance of 'animal-centered design' being at the very heart of Animal-computer Interaction, exactly what it means to be animal-centered often remains vague. In this position paper, I question and critique what animal-centered design really means as it is used. I argue that even though the ACI manifesto and subsequent foundational works clearly set out a focus on animal user-centered design, much work since has adopted 'animal-centered' as being a synonym for 'animal user-centered'. However, I argue, the fundamental essence of ACI's intellectual origins in human-centered design's preoccupation with human values, and in turn, human dignity - which set it apart from mere user-centered design, is lost in such a straightforward adoption of the term. I then analyze what it might mean to actually adopt a value-driven approach akin to human-centered design for animal-centered design, and how this might force us to move beyond the typical welfarist position dominant across most of ACI. Rather than consider the prevention of unnecessary suffering as a central goal of technologies developed by ACI researchers, I argue that technologies that preserve animal dignity as a core value is a more appropriate understanding of the term 'animal-centered'.
