this study aims to find out the impact of data augmentation and Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Techniques (SMOTE) implementation on the classification models performance using small and imbalanced dataset of student academic performance. the design of this study involved a comprehensive experiment by comparing four scenarios: 1) comparing classification models without both data augmentation and SMOTE, 2) models with data augmentation, 3) models with SMOTE, and 4) models with both data augmentation and SMOTE. the model's performances were each measured based on standard evaluation metrices such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score. To test the results validity, there were three classification algorithms implemented and evaluated for each scenario, that is, Random Forest, XGBoost, and AdaBoost. the finding of this study highlights the significant impact of data augmentation and SMOTE to the increase of classification models performance, particularly over the small and imbalanced dataset. Results showed that the implementation of both techniques simultaneously brought about the most significant increase in the evaluation metrices compared to the implementation of both techniques separately. the originality of this study lies in its comprehensive approach in comparing the effectiveness of data augmentation and SMOTE, as well as the use of student academic performance dataset, which is, a real case in the context of artificial intelligence. this finding gives a valuable insight to the researchers and practitioners in choosing appropriate techniques to handle small and imbalanced class datasets. this study is expected to make an important contribution to the more effective development of classification methodology in various domains. © 2024 the Authors.

the diagnosis of stomach cancer automatically in digital pathology images is a difficult problem. Gastric cancer (GC) detection and pathological study can be greatly aided by precise region-by-region segmentation. On a technical level, this issue is complicated by the fact that malignant zones might be any size or shape and have fuzzy boundaries. the research employs a deep learning-based approach and integrates many bespoke modules to cope with these issues. the channel refinement model is the attentional actor on the chin channel. While implementing the feature channel, the learnt channel weight can be used to eliminate unnecessary features. Calibration is essential to improve classification precision. the results of channel recalibration can be improved with the help of a re-calibration (MSCR) model. the top pooling layer of the network is where the multiscale attributes are sent. the outcomes of channel recalibration may be enhanced by using the channel weights found at various scales as input to the next channel recalibration perfect. Our unique gastric cancer segmentation dataset, carefully glossed down to the pixel level by medical authorities, is used for extensive experimental comparisons. the numerical comparisons with other approaches show that our strategy is superior. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

this paper explores how to build ontology-driven learning systems from a flexible disability-aware mentality and augment them into a learning blend that embraces social media. the approach emphasizes the use of user centered flexible software in a blended approach to learning. the paper starts with a discussion of how learners learn, including their recent fascination with Apps and social media. the need to provide disability-aware personalization of the educational Apps that are developed is discussed. the emphasis is on designing learning systems for learners with disabilities rather than providing for them as an afterthought. the paper introduces social media as a way of facilitating and supporting e-learning. It notes the recent changes that have taken place in the use of social media. Taking e-learning as a case study the paper demonstrates how various models of e-learning, emphasizing flexible learning, can be enhanced linking back the whole while of integrating into disability-aware information systems. Some practical approaches to modeling the learner with ontologies are provided. Finally, caution is noted on how we have to use social media. We detail some of the potential problems and pitfalls that may be a contemporary consequence of using this media, then offer some suggestions and work rounds.

Based on the rapid development of network technology, from the perspective of constructing an OMO (Online-Merge-Offline) learning space and combining virtual and real experimental teaching modes, this paper mainly studies the practical application method of the OMO education model. the integration of various teaching functions in the OMO learning space provides learners with more convenient services and allows teaching staff to implement teaching more efficiently. Relying on the virtual simulation experiment platform combining virtual and real, modern information technology and experimental teaching are deeply integrated, and a specific experimental teaching scheme is given, which better solves the problems of the limitation of the experimental platform, the single experimental teaching mode and the lack of experimental teaching resources. At the same time, the breadth and depth of experimental teaching content are expanded, the time and space of experimental teaching are extended, and the quality and level of experimental teaching are improved. © 2024 ACM.

this paper focuses on the concept of e-portfolio in education and its different types. Our objective is to improve the learning level of students and decrease the dropout rate in Morocco by using this tool. Indeed, we have proposed in a previous work. a new participatory tutoring strategy between the Moroccan educational administration and teachers, standardized nationally to ensure equity and quality of training and assistance to students. this strategy is based on the validation of academic skills through a computer system that we plan to design as part of this project. Its role is to use the learner's portfolio in an official framework to ensure the monitoring and development of his or her academic skills. this system must be composed of e-portfolios of evaluation and learning (remediation) of the student. In this work, we will proceed to establish the structure of our software solution by modeling the processes of evaluation and remediation of the learner's academic skills. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent years, numerous fire incidents in nursing homes and elderly welfare institutions in Taiwan have resulted in severe injuries and significant financial losses. To address this issue, effective emergency response training is crucial. With the advancement of virtual reality technology, this innovative approach has been adopted in various industries and fields, demonstrating a no table improvement in training efficacy. this project aims to address this issue by developing a virtual reality-based fire hazard identification training system for nursing homes and elderly welfare institutions in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in accordance with the Fire Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government. the system considers common fire hazards and deficiencies frequently observed in small nursing homes and elderly welfare institutions, and is developed through three stages: (1) analysis of potential fire hazard factors, (2) experience content and interface design, and (3) 3D virtual reality integration design. the application is intended for use in institution hazard recognition training to enhance safety awareness and knowledge. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

the digitisation of architecturally significant buildings and sites creates opportunities to innovate methods of analysis, interpretation, representation, and audience engagement. To illustrate this potential, but also examine the attendant challenges, this paper outlines a research project that has digitised archival assets and living buildings designed by the Japanese architect Shoei Yoh to create an immersive 3D Spatial Archive. It focuses particularly on the creation of a browser-based 3D environment using WebGL technology that connects to and displays a repository of digitised archival assets. this includes the use of 3D scan data of Yoh's Naiju Community Centre project to accurately model the 3D immersive environment and a Grasshopper / Rhino into the glTF. File format (graphics library Transmission Format) workflow to render Naiju’s complex geometry and detailed outdoor scenery. the paper demonstrates how using the .glTF File, which is an open format specifically for transmitting processed and pre-calculated 3D models, can improve the processing efficiency of web-browser based 3D environments. Improving the stability and processing speed of 3D browser-based environments is significant to enhancing how audiences can connect with and experience culturally significant sites remotely. the digital recreation and repurposing of Naiju (which is currently unoccupied and in a state of disrepair) as an immersive archival exhibition space operates to simultaneously protect the real building from over visitation, but also raise awareness of its cultural significance to support preservation efforts. In so doing, the paper makes a further contribution to the developing field of digital cultural heritage. © 2022, the Association for computer-aided Architectural design Research in Asia. this paper considers a multi-user multiple-input-single-output (MU-MISO) mmWave downlink communication system. the hybrid beamforming (HBF) is applied at the base station (BS). A joint analog beamforming (ABF) and digital beamforming (DBF) optimization problem is formulated to maximize the sum rate (SR) of the users, the problem is generally non-convex due to the log-determinant as well as unit modulus constraints (UMC) for ABF. Two efficient alternating descent iteration algorithms are developed to solve the intractable problem. Finally, simulation results are included to verify the efficiency of the proposed approaches, results also show that the proposed algorithms can accommodate discrete phase shifts for ABF. © 2023, © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

With the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and computer vision technology, the field of visual-based human pose detection has emerged as a highly sought-after research area in recent years. the identification of human poses has practical applications in diverse domains, ranging from motion-sensing games for human-computer interaction to activity prediction and medical rehabilitation. the present study is focused on the utilization of human pose detection for fitness movement counting. the ultimate aim of the system design is to accurately detect the skeletal key points of each body part in the image and subsequently connect them to form a human pose skeleton, which serves as a vital representation of the characteristics of human motion, particularly in the context of video data, where multiple human poses can be linked to form a certain movement trajectory. By judging the trajectory and angle changes, the system can determine whether people's fitness movements are correct and help them improve their fitness effectiveness. Hence, an increasing number of researchers are investing time and effort in this field. One common approach for human pose detection is OpenPose, but this model has a large and complex structure and low detection accuracy. therefore, this fitness movement detection and counting system uses a lightweight MediaPipe model and improves it to enhance the algorithm's accuracy and recognition speed. the specific work in this paper includes three main points: (1) a suitable network structure to detect human skeletal points;(2) the appropriate skeletal structure for fitness movements through experiments to obtain accurate results;and (3) a Qt interface for human-computer interaction. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
