the paper describes a set of strategies for mapping irregular codes onto commodity graphics hardware. We start identifying the resources that current GPUs contain for solving indirect array accesses entirely on hardware, like vertices, textures and color tables. We then show how multiple indirections can be mapped onto the graphics pipeline, basically taking advantage of its streaming architecture for sequencing the indirections through subsequent pipeline stages. Our techniques are applied over typical irregular kernels like the sparse matrix-vector multiply and the Euler solver Execution times on the GeForce Series consistently outperform the Pentium 4 and Athlon 64 processors, with performance depending on floating-point precision.

Animation is an inevitable product in the development of the human civilization. Since the computergraphics provides unlimited possibilities for the development of the animation industry and the researches into art forms. As one kind of the digital art, 'pixel art' is an 'extreme' expression form of the bitmap, while the Chinese folk art form, 'hand stitching article', also known as 'Cross-stitched Flower Pattern, mainly using the form of latitude and longitude coordinates to make a points' collective creation. thus it can be seen that 'pixel art' has a very long history and a rather wide spread of range. this paper aims to reference the Chinese folk art form 'hand stitching article' using the 'pixel art' technology to explore the animation modeling performance, eventually to create a global animation modeling image that combines with modern artistic trends and reflects the folk characteristics.

Geometric property estimation of the scattered point data is a key task in reverse engineering. A common approach is to estimate the local surface geometric properties, such as normal vectors and curvatures, at each point by locally fitting a low order parametric polynomial surface to a neighborhood of its nearest points. However existing parametric surface methods do not always achieve satisfactory estimates because of theoretical and practical reasons. Motivated by improving geometric properties estimation we propose a novel approach based on local quadric surface fitting. Experimental results are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Nowadays, many commercial CAD systems support history-based, constraint-based and feature-based modeling. Unfortunately, most systems fail during the re-evaluation phase when various kind of topological changes occur. this issue is known as ''persistent naming" which refers to the problem of identifying entities in an initial parametric model and matching them in the re-evaluated model. Most works in this domain focus on the persistent naming of atomic entities such as vertices, edges or faces. But very few of them consider the persistent naming of aggregates like shells (connected set of faces). We propose in this paper a complete ftamework for extending a persistent naming model of atomic entities in order to identify and match any kind of shells based on their underlying topology.

A tutorial on miniature computer realtime executives comprises the second part of this volume. Mesh-free deformation is an effective method for the simulation of deformable objects and characters in computer animation. It bears the merits of flexible control, good accuracy and easy implementation. Similar to other physically-based deformation techniques, however, computational cost remains a pressing issue, especially for large scale problems. Based on our previous work, in this paper we investigate the underlying structure of the numerical approach in order to speed up the computation. three algorithms are presented and their efficiency and convergence are analysed Our results show that we are able to significantly reduce the computation time and memory usage with little loss in accuracy. the new technique is capable of achieving interactive frame rates with large models.

In this paper we present a new adaptive rendering method for general Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces. the new method is based on direct evaluation of the limit surface to generate an inscribed polyhedron of the limit surface. the method generates less polygons in the filial rendering process because inscribed approximation usually provides faster convergent rate than circumscribed approximation. the new adaptive rendering method call precisely measure error for every point of the limit surface. Hence, it has complete control of the accuracy of the rendering result. Cracks are avoided by using a recursive marking process to ensure that adjacent patches or subpatches use the same limit surface points in the construction of the shared boundary. the new method performs limit surface evaluation only at points that are needed for the filial rendering process. therefore it is very fast and memory efficient.

We present a multi-resolution mesh model of the ocean surface based on a straightforward terrain LOD scheme, Tiled Quad-tree, withthat the region of ocean surface can be extended limitlessly and readily adapted for GPU acceleration. We have introduced the concept of Wrapped Fractal Surface (WFS) for generating height field map of the ocean. through WFS self-mapping, we can create a series of WFS and obtain the height field map at discrete times without repeating tiles. By interpolating the height map at regular intervals we can build an ocean surface continuously and dynamically. this paper also studied shallow ocean waves concerned about affects of seaboard and underwater terrain. Experimental results showed that our approach was effective and would satisfy the requirements of a realistic real-time navigation for large-scale seascape.
