Quantum many-core processors are envisioned as the ultimate solution for the scalability of quantum computers. Based upon Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) chips interconnected in a sort of quantum intranet, they enable large algorithms to be executed on current and close future technology. In order to optimize such architectures, it is crucial to develop tools that allow specific design space explorations. To this aim, in this paper we present a technique to perform a spatio-temporal characterization of quantum circuits running in multi-chip quantum computers. Specifically, we focus on the analysis of the qubit traffic resulting from operations that involve qubits residing in different cores, and hence quantum communication across chips, while also giving importance to the amount of intra-core operations that occur in between those communications. Using specific multi-core performance metrics and a complete set of benchmarks, our analysis showcases the opportunities that the proposed approach may provide to guide the design of multi-core quantum computers and their interconnects.

Automated diagnosis prediction from medical images is a valuable resource to support clinical decision-making. However, such systems usually need to be trained on large amounts of annotated data, which often is scarce in the medical domain. Zero-shot methods address this challenge by allowing a flexible adaption to new settings with different clinical findings without relying on labeled data. Further, to integrate automated diagnosis in the clinical workflow, methods should be transparent and explainable, increasing medical professionals' trust and facilitating correctness verification. In this work, we introduce Xplainer, a novel framework for explainable zero-shot diagnosis in the clinical setting. Xplainer adapts the classification-by-description approach of contrastive vision-language models to the multi-label medical diagnosis task. Specifically, instead of directly predicting a diagnosis, we prompt the model to classify the existence of descriptive observations, which a radiologist would look for on an X-Ray scan, and use the descriptor probabilities to estimate the likelihood of a diagnosis. Our model is explainable by design, as the final diagnosis prediction is directly based on the prediction of the underlying descriptors. We evaluate Xplainer on two chest X-ray datasets, CheXpert and ChestX-ray14, and demonstrate its effectiveness in improving the performance and explainability of zero-shot diagnosis. Our results suggest that Xplainer provides a more detailed understanding of the decision-making process and can be a valuable tool for clinical diagnosis. this paper aims to maximize the sum throughput of an Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS)-assisted wireless powered communication network (WPCN), where the IRS located between several sensors and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). the system first performs wireless power transfer to the sensors and then assists forwarding the information of each sensor to the UAV based on TDMA protocol. To address each problem’s non-convexity, we propose an algorithm to obtain the nearoptimal solution. the method of block coordinate descent is used to improve the throughput through joint optimization of allocation of time slot, transmit power of ground nodes, phase shifts of the IRS, and trajectory of the UAV. Simulations show the considerable gain achieved by the joint optimization scheme.

the current highly competitive market requires the production of products that are close to perfection. However, there are always problems that need to be solved in order to ensure customer satisfaction. Amongst others, the discontinuity of communication between engineers during the development phase of a system that can result in a non-coherent final product that does not meet all requirements. Indeed, a design solution is considered valid only if all of the specification requirements are met. Unfortunately, the lack of continuity between the work of the system engineer, who has a global vision of the product, and that of the designer, a CAD specialist who integrates the CAD data of the parts and assemblies, results in a huge lack of productivity and efficiency. this work presents a methodology that facilitates the exchange of data between the two disciplines (CAD and MBSE). It will help the system engineer to make decisions about the design solution based on the requirements he has defined. Trajectory and caching optimisation design is a promising joint solution for enhancing the quality of services in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted content delivery networks (CDNs). In this paper, we review the problem of which contents to cache in the UAV and which trajectory to fly, i.e., where to stop and how to gain the shortest path over the stops, under the constraints of caching storage and energy resources, namely storage- and energy-aware caching and trajectory optimisation (SECTO) problem. the SECTO problem in UAV-assisted CDNs is formulated and solved by applying genetic algorithms (GAs) to maximise the content delivery capacity while minimising the flying distance. the simulation results are shown to demonstrate the benefits of GAs in terms of accuracy and time complexity performance compared to other conventional solutions such as exhausted and greedy search algorithms. © 2023, © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Translation examination has always been regarded as a kind of examination which needs much manpower and intelligence input. Traditionally, the translation examination in College English is evaluated manually. Based on the characteristics of large number of College English test participants and heavy workload of teachers, this paper starts with the research on the existing achievements of automatic evaluation of machine translation, this paper discusses the possibility of automatic evaluation of College English translation test by computer with the help of human and related implementation methods. the research object of this paper is to evaluate the translation part of the final examination conducted by the English teaching and Research Office of Peking University in undergraduate college English teaching, aiming at the problems such as the heavy workload of marking papers and the decline of accuracy due to fatigue. Machine learning (ML) has not only become increasingly popular in the fields of computer science and AI since the 1990s, it also has become increasingly used in architectural design in the past few years. While some experimentations deal with fabrication or engineering issues and performance prediction, others deal with layout generation. As in any process involving ML, layout generation necessitates a large database to train the system. these databases are currently in their majority 2D images or 3D-models. However, these databases are often either scarce or monolithic – they gather too few examples and/or examples that are very similar in regard to the vast diversity of architectural design. the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) is a language model developed by Open AI to produce text answers to text prompts submitted to it. With 175 billion parameters, it is one of the largest models available. It has been trained on billions of online texts, coming from databases such as Common Crawl, Books2 or Wikipedia. the texts it generates are therefore based on a very large range of information, including about architecture. While only being word-based, the amount of information it has been trained with makes the suggestions relative to architecture GPT-3 outputs worthwhile to examine. What patterns relating to architectural design emerge when training a ML algorithm on such a database, much larger than what our field is currently used to manipulating? We have been testing and calibrating GPT-3 in order to obtain descriptions of buildings that could then be translated into drawings, i.e. design briefs. this calibration has also enabled us to assess the patterns identified by the system. We thus propose an evaluation of how design issues usually perceived by architects as key are handled by GPT-3 – location, climate, program, references, inhabitants and their peculiarities. this evaluation is based on an assessment method that can be applied to other general ML t

In order to face the requirement of distant education after covid-19, this paper has presented a cyber-physical co-existence environment for practical distance learning events, we called it as a "Co-existing Practical Environment, CPE". CPE includes: "Holographic Wearable Device, HWD" for behavior sensing and vision sharing mechanism, cloud "Digital TwinModel, DTM" database for expert correcting variables real time, and collaborative fabrication discussion interface. We built an immersive HoloLens interface to help distance learning participators, understanding the concept of structural mechanics form morphs with mix-reality sensing, communicating the augmented information of parts of models for collaborative fabrication, and sharing the views of operation process for lecturers to solve the technical problems instantly. Furthermore, users are able to make their own custom digital twin project in CPE and optimize their fabricating process by adding more realistic material factors, operation callbacks, or analyzing their practice results in parameters relationships. this paper revised an application of holographic technology with a practical distance learning workshop as example, and discover CPE as a new kind of co-creation, cross-field, and remotely prepared cooperation mechanism. While the epidemic is still ragging, we are looking further researchers of more immersive methods for distance education.

From cat feeders and cat flaps to robot toys, humans are deploying increasingly autonomous systems to look after their pets. In parallel, industry is developing the next generation of autonomous systems to look after humans in the home - most notably robot arms that might assist with all manner of domestic tasks. How might the animals and humans in these spaces engage with these and with each other? this research focuses upon the role that 'Trust' plays in autonomous animal-centric robotic systems and the ways in which we as researchers can further understand how to design, develop, and evaluate such systems by taking a Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach. Understanding, designing for, and negotiating 'Trust' is complex, particularly in contexts where animals, humans, and intelligent systems (including Robotics, AI, & IoT) come together in a social context, in which bonds are created, friendships develop, and mutual care plays a part in the interaction and developing relationship between people and animals.

In this paper, shape grammar is implemented as a computational design methodology to analyze the design language of Donald Judd’s "100 untitled works in mill aluminum"—permanently installed at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX. Judd (1928–1994), an American artist, writer, and critic installed 100 aluminum objects—with the exact same outer dimensions (41″×51″×72″) but unique configuration, "all made from ½" mill aluminum plates—over a four-year period from 1982 through 1986 in two former artillery sheds of a de-commissioned US military base. the question we are seeking to answer is whether these 100 works belong to a system, and, if so, what that system is and what delimits the system to produce 100 objects and no more. Our hypothesis, having spent considerable time examining the works and exploring the archival materials, is that there is a system, but the system is tempered by improvisational moments at multiple junctures in the project. We are interested in deciphering the system, but also the moments of artistic improvisation by Judd. the project is significant in relation to serial art works of the 50’s and 60’s. We have been calling them "serial" assuming there is a serial order and a system in their repetition and variation, but this very issue has not been researched in the context of the present work. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
