In the process of urban development, a large number of industrial heritages are in needs of being renovated as a result of the failure of meeting new needs. However, there has not yet formed an innovative and sustainable update design process. Based on the analysis of the problems existing in the renewal and reconstruction of industrial heritages, this paper, hereinafter, will establish an innovative design system by way of introducing extenics and BIM and combining the formalized and innovative advantages of extenics and the characteristics of BIM: information storage, processing and visual programming. In combination with the design of practical cases, this essay conducted the system, to verify its rationality and effectiveness;to discover limitations in its operation, and as the ultimate purpose, to propose directions for further research. © 2022 Beijing Institute of Technology.

the high demand for automobiles has also increased traffic dangers and road accidents, putting people's lives at high risk. the period between the occurrence of the accident and the arrival of emergency services to the scene is a significant antecedent of survival rates. thus, delay in reaching the ambulance service, delay in the arrival of the ambulance and arrival at a hospital increases the victim's risk of death. With the emergence of Internet of things, it is highly desirable to have a smart monitoring and reliable system in vehicles to effectively relay information when accidents occur. this paper presents a real-time Google map and IoT-based accident tracking system, with the primary objective of assisting emergency personnel to locate the position of vehicle accidents and provide them details of the user involved in the accident for immediate assistance. the system is implemented with an accelerometer sensor, Wi-Fi module, Global Positioning System (GPS), Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), and a mobile app for easy access and control. A microcontroller is used to control onboard sensors and continuously monitor the system. When an accident occurs, the microcontroller receives a signal from the accelerometer sensor and sends an alert message with the location and user information to a rescue team via a mobile app alert. the GSM module transmits the location of the accident and the mobile app uses Google Maps to show the location of the accident in real-time. the full functionality of the system was tested and the module successfully transmitted accident details via SMS message and the Wi-Fi module to the mobile app in less than 11 seconds after the occurrence of the accident. © 2024 IEEE.

Pneumonia has a serious impact on the function of the human respiratory tract, so it has attracted global attention. Currently, pneumonia detection mainly relies on manual inspection. this requires trained doctors to confirm the diagnosis by means of chest X-rays, clinical history, vital signs and laboratory tests. However, a large number of pathological images bring great pressure to medical staff, which is easy to lead to misdiagnosis. With the wide application of deep learning technology in the medical field, artificial intelligence-based aided diagnosis has been recognized by the industry.[1] Taking pneumonia X-ray images as the research object, this paper studies and improves MobileNetV2 classification model and U-Net segmentation model respectively, and finally completes a design of classification and segmentation double network auxiliary diagnosis of pneumonia.

In recent years, the number of vehicles connected to the Internet has increased explosively, and those vehicles have produced a large number of computing-intensive and delay-sensitive applications, which has brought severe challenges to the Internet of Vehicle (IoV). To effectively alleviate this situation, mobile edge computing (MEC) is proposed, which allows vehicles to offload tasks to edge server for processing. But in the real traffic environment, vehicle congestions in the morning-evening rush hours will lead to a sudden increase in the number of tasks. the traditional fixed Base Stations (BSs) are subject to geographical factors, which cannot cope with this situation and restricts the development of MEC. therefore, we introduce Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) into the system to improve the mobility of the system. Computation offloading is a critical technology that decides when and where tasks should be offloaded to minimize the total cost. In this paper, we illustrate offloading decision problem as a Markov process, and propose an optimized deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method based on prioritized experience replay to improve training efficiency of the network. To fully mobilize the resources of vehicles, MEC servers and UAV, we propose user fairness factor. Evaluation results verify that the proposed algorithm performs more effective than the existing offloading methods. © 2022 IEEE.

the built environment contributes significantly to climate change being responsible of a large portion of global energy use and CO2 emissions. In the scientific community it become evident that designing urban environments and buildings which do less harm or have a neutral impact on the environment is not enough anymore to realize sustainable cities. this paper presents a method to help design buildings with a positive impact on the context, filling vacant lots in dense urban environments. the method defines optimal building boundaries to reduce energy use of existing surrounding premises, while guaranteeing them adequate solar access. A two-step computational workflow was developed. In the first step building space positive, negative and neutral effect on cooling, heating and electric lighting energy use is analyzed in consideration of shading factors and beam solar energy. In the second, the effect of the positive and neutral building space on sunlight exposure of neighboring premises is considered, generating energy and sunlight optimized conceptual building massing. Initial results of the method application in several urban conditions, different building use and scenarios and in different cities are presented and discussed. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Live steaming become an emerging significant phenomenon for creating huge market value in business. When it is reposed successful stories about the live streaming economy, researchers are interested in how a live streaming can be successful. Current studies explore this issue by investigating the motivations that can drive audiences watching a live streaming. However, it remains unclear about how and why the liver streamers perform particular practices to attract audiences and manage their live streaming. this study bridges this gap by applying the dramaturgical theory to explain the process where live streamers manage consumer's sensemaking process with image creation. the dramaturgical theory regards individual daily behaviors as 'performances in front of others.' Specifically, an individual is like an actor, who manage her image by performing certain behaviors in front of people. this theory provides an opportunity to analyzes the live streaming practices by revealing the live steamers' understandings that constitute and support their 'performances' in the live streaming platform. Our findings identify three types of performance, namely idols, master players, and market seekers. Our analysis discusses the three types of performance by describing the live stream understandings on the stage (i.e. the live streaming industry), on the audience they faced, and on the roles they played (i.e. as live streamers) to unfold the logic embedded in live streaming practices. Our findings can contribute to deepen current understanding on live streaming practices and provide insights to aim live streamers to leverage audience's sensemaking for image creation.

Both architects and engineers increasingly use design optimization in the early stages, but it is unclear how designers’ disciplinary background may influence their optimization strategies. In considering designs with multiple conflicting objectives, large datasets of options are often produced, which can be difficult to navigate. Architects and engineers may engage with optimization tools and their feedback differently based on their background, which can affect collaborative efforts and influence design outcomes. In this study, graduate architecture and engineering students with experience in optimization responded to a design task with both quantitative and qualitative goals. the task required participants to establish and explore their own parametric design variables, producing large datasets with numerical and visual feedback. Screen recordings of the design sessions were analyzed to characterize optimization events initiated by the designers, revealing when and how often they ran optimization routines and how they reviewed the optimization feedback. the study showed that the architecture students tended to use optimization later and iterate less than the engineering students, who relied on quantitative data more often to edit their design space and justify their decisions. Future efforts to incorporate design optimization into graduate education should be cognizant of these differences, especially in multi-disciplinary settings that encourage architects and engineers to mutually engage with data during collaborative design. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Use in modern timber constructions of wood-wood connections inspired by traditional timber carpentry can take advantage today of the many available digital technologies aiding stress analysis and automated control of machining tools. Such methodologies of more recent introduction, if properly employed, allow for a reduction in time and of human error in the design and manufacturing phases of timber structures. Wood-wood connections without metal elements are encountered in many historical buildings. However, not infrequently in intervention on existing timber elements as well as in new timber constructions, the original connection typologies are renounced in favor of other connection typologies due to higher costs and the difficulty of thoroughly analyzing the structural behaviour of wood-only joints under the full set of loading conditions and design seismic actions prescribed by the building regulations currently in force. the connection typologies between timber elements may differ according to the loading types (stress-resultant) for which they are designed to. the most common are carpentry joints and mechanical joints. the former is the traditional union of timber carpentry using woodworking of contacting surfaces. Mechanical joints provide, instead, for the use of metal connections and/or glue layers. Fostering the use of wood-wood connections brings several advantages: (i) exploring the value of timber-timber connections as an ancient cultural heritage amenable to provide methodologies suitably implementable in the design processes of the modern construction industry, with a specific view towards the rehabilitation of historical and monumental buildings;(ii) understanding by parametric computer-aided analyses, in desirable retracing of the past rules of the art, the influence of wood fiber orientation also in the use of engineered composite timber assemblies like CLT;(iii) foster the use of local wood;(iv) measure the fire-resistance of timber joints. this co

Remote monitoring uses smart home features to promote aging in place by preventing emergencies and increasing the quality of life of older adults. However, traditional reports, data, and graphs produced by remote monitoring technologies are not well suited to older adults’ needs. thus, the complexity for older adults to use and interpret reports can lead to usability and adoption issues. the goals of this study were 1) to incorporate ludic-based design principles into an application that provides older adults with an alternative way to interact with information about their Activities of Daily Living (ADL), and 2) involve older adults in creating new ludic interfaces that address usability and reduce adoption issues. this ambient assistive technology offers older adults the opportunity, through its interface, to promote curiosity and exploration, the pursuit of non-external goals, and openness about the user’s routine and lifestyle. Skin cancer is among the most prominent types of cancer, which if not detected in the initial stages can metastasize and become fatal. As the number of Melanoma cases surges, the interest in using CAD (computer-aided diagnosis) for skin cancer prognosis is also rising. In this work, the proposed methodology is applied to HAM 10,000 dataset containing skin lesion images. this paper aims to implement neural network architectures on pre-processed segmented lesions for labeling the lesion image as benign or malignant. the images from the dataset are first pre-processed to remove the noise present, and then segmentation is performed to separate skin lesion from the background. Textural features are extracted from the segmented lesion, which are later used by perceptron and multilayer perceptron (MLP) for classification. Pre-processed images are classified using transfer learning models (ResNet-50, Inception-V3, MobileNet, Inception-ResNet-V2, and DenseNet201), where DenseNet201 has given the best performance and achieved an accuracy of 93.24% and AUC of 0.932. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
