the high efficiency and reliability of the Tactile internet (TI) primarily depends on the construction of the architecture of the distributed service platform. therefore, the main goal of the work is to analyze and present an effective solution for building a Tactile internet domain architecture model with high reliability, availability, and low latency. In this article, the domain architecture consists of three sections, namely: master, slave, and network domains. Using haptic commands and haptic feedback signals, the master and slave domains communicate across the network domain. To implement the construction of the network domain architecture, the article proposes the use of a new technology, such as mobile edge computing (MEC) with an open fog structure (OpenFog). © 2022 IEEE.

Smart environments are places where different kind of embedded devices are interconnected in order to provide their occupants intelligent services improving their comfort and convenience. these smart environments are seen to be important for the future urban ecosystems in terms of user friendliness, quality of life, energy efficiency and sustainability. Lately such environments have become economically and technologically feasible due to the advancements in embedded and distributed technologies. Most of the novel infrastructures adopt smart technologies, while old infrastructures need a transition towards smart environments. Even though different technologies and devices are available, there is a need for an appropriate methodology and a system architecture for a smooth and profitable transition towards smart environments. In this paper we present a framework for creating personalized smart environments using wireless sensor networks. this framework, among other services that it provides, is able to identify people and take personalized actions such as control electrical devices based on their preferences and needs. We present, as a proof of concept, a real world deployment where two scenarios are implemented in two office premises.

Autonomous wireless networks play an increasingly crucial role in today's society. Harsh environmental conditions, challenging deployment topologies, unreliable (or non-existing) power grids, as well as misguided control procedures of communications infrastructures by governmental authorities have made autonomous communication infrastructures a valuable asset for long-term development and wealth of societies. However, such wireless networks are in an early phase of their development and need to incorporate necessary equipment and algorithms for autonomous operation. this paper presents a concept and a concrete simulation scenario showing how a distributed context management system and the data collected and distributed by such a system can improve the performance of an autonomous, coordinated wireless mesh network (ACWMN). Research agrees that it is context awareness that will transform today's networks to incorporate autonomous, coordinated behavior. We further depict a concrete example simulation scenario where the access capacity of an ACWMN with WLAN radio access technology is significantly increased by coordinating user access with upper limits on the number of users that can concurrently request data services.

Electric internet of things (EIoT), as a product of the fusion of energy and information, applies the ubiquitous internet of things to the power industry. the construction and improvement of EIoT is inseparable from artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and advanced communication technology. With the proliferation of base stations and users, connectivity challenges and resource shortages have become significant. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) have become one of the most promising technologies for global digitization. To solve the problem of green communication, the base station sleep technology plays an important role. this paper discusses the combination of RIS and dormancy technology to achieve the optimization goal of maximum energy efficiency. We propose an iterative algorithm combining Dinkbach and distributed Alternating direction method of Multipliers (ADMM) to optimize the beamforming vector and base station switching integer variables. Simulation results show that this algorithm can effectively improve energy efficiency and realize energy saving. © 2022 IEEE.

Since the internet is an aggregation of multiple ASes (Autonomous Systems), congestion control and utilization are not globally optimized. For example, it is not uncommon that a direct shortest route with low latency delivers less bandwidth than an alternative, long and roundabout route. Previous research has shown that geospatially distributed computing instances in commercial clouds offer users an opportunity to deploy relay points to detour potentially congested ASes, and as a means to diversify paths to increase overall bandwidth and reliability. Such opportunity comes with a cost, as cloud-routed paths incur cost of not only provisioning of computing resources, but also for additional traffic to/from internet. Well-established protocols, such as TCP, were created based on assumption of single end-point to end-point transfer;nonetheless, current computing devices have multiple end-points, and the increasing availability of overlay networks allows multiplexing multiple virtual network flows into a single physical network interface. In this paper, we empirically evaluate the extent to which using cloud paths to transfer data in parallel with the default internet path can improve the end-to-end bandwidth in bulk data transfers. In our evaluation, we consider single-stream and multi-stream TCP transfers across one or more paths. Moreover, we suggest an application level design pattern that takes advantage of this improved aggregate bandwidth to reduce data transfer times.

Edge computing has been proposed for new types of cloud services, which need computing infrastructure at the network edge. Driven by important use cases from the internet of things (IoT) domain, edge cloud computing has also a huge business potential. Edge computing devices are already operational in many industrial and consumer-oriented scenarios. A typical characteristic of these solutions is, however, that the hardware and software platforms in use are proprietary and closed. the interaction among the different vendor platforms, and their extension with third party services, in general, is not well supported. As a consequence, the opportunities for third party providers to build new tailored edge services on these platforms face significant barriers. In this paper we argue to build a collaborative edge cloud deployed on home servers. We position the proposed system and describe its building elements, where we use Docker containers for provisioning the services.

internet-of-things (IoT) is a concept referring to interconnected people and objects and smart city is one of the many applications of IoT. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a specific technology that helps to create "Smart Cities". It aims at creating a distributed network of intelligent sensor nodes which can measure various parameters for efficient management of the city. the data thus collected through a range of sensors is processed and is delivered wirelessly in real-time to the citizens or the appropriate authorities. Since the application framework for smart city application is huge, it would require a large number of different types of sensors for its implementation and the project could be viable only if we use low resolution, low precision but inexpensive sensors. the sensors in sensor network can suffer from random or systematic errors. Most common problem with inexpensive sensors used in WSNs for smart city applications is of drift and bias. they can be calibrated at the time of deployment, but they develop drift, which is the slow change in the reading of sensor from actual value as time progresses. In this paper we have proposed a framework to automatically detect and correct the drift of the sensor nodes to keep the WSN usable. Kriging based interpolation of the sensor readings of neighboring sensors is used to predict actual value at the sensor node and the measured drift is then kalman filtered to get correct drift estimates. We have demonstrated the results of this algorithm on real sensor data obtained from Intel Research Berkeley Laboratory deployment and shown that our system is able to detect and correct smooth drift and bias generated in the sensors. We have also shown that our system is robust with respect to the number of sensor nodes drifting and significantly outperforms the traditional averaging based interpolation methods.

the Steiner tree problem is one of the fundamental optimization problems in distributed graph algorithms. Recently Saikia and Karmakar [27] proposed a deterministic distributed algorithm for the Steiner tree problem that constructs a Steiner tree in O(S + root n log* n) rounds whose cost is optimal upto a factor of 2(1 - 1/l), where n and S are the number of nodes and shortest path diameter [17] respectively of the given input graph and l is the number of terminal leaf nodes in the optimal Steiner tree. the message complexity of the algorithm is O(Delta(n - t)S + n(3/2)), which is equivalent to O(mS + n(3/2)), where. is the maximum degree of a vertex in the graph, t is the number of terminal nodes (we assume that t < n), and m is the number of edges in the given input graph. this algorithm has a better round complexity than the previous best algorithm for Steiner tree construction due to Lenzen and Patt-Shamir [21]. In this paper we present a deterministic distributed algorithm which constructs a Steiner tree in <(O)over tilde> (S + root n) rounds and (O) over tilde (mS) messages and still achieves an approximation factor of 2(1 - 1/l). Note here that (O) over tilde (center dot) notation hides polylogarithmic factors in n. this algorithm improves the message complexity of Saikia and Karmakar's algorithm by dropping the additive term of O(n(3/2)) at the expense of a logarithmic multiplicative factor in the round complexity. Furthermore, we show that for sufficiently small values of the shortest path diameter (S = O(log n)), a 2(1- 1/l)-approximate Steiner tree can be computed in (O) over tilde (root n) rounds and (O) over tilde (m) messages and these complexities almost coincide with the results of some of the singularly-optimal minimum spanning tree (MST) algorithms proposed in [9,12,23].

internet of things (IoT) smart places are systems composed of sensors, actuators and computing infrastructure that acquires data about the surrounding environment and uses that data to improve the user experience of the smart place. For instance, RFID readers can detect a tag approaching and, after the event is processed in a dedicated server, open a door automatically. Many IoT applications are latency-sensitive because actions need to be done in a timely manner. To meet this requirement these applications are usually provisioned close to the physical place, which represents an infrastructure burden because it is not always practical to deploy a physical server at a location. Utility computing in the Cloud can solve this issue but the latency requirements must be carefully assessed. Fog computing is a concept that brings the cloud close to devices at the edge of the network, aiming to provide low latency communication for applications and services. the present work implemented a provisioning mechanism to deploy a "smart warehouse" IoT application according in utility computing platforms: Cloud and Fog. We compared the event latency performance of both approaches and the results show that a fog deployment is more adequate for the considered IoT application. (C) 2018 the Authors. the growth of the internet and the advances in networking technologies demand for new forms of distributed computing, such as large-scale, highly decentralized computing and mobile computing. However, such forms of distributed computing require new adaptive and flexible middlewares and frameworks able to exploit logical mobility and to support programmable coordination infrastructures. this paper presents a free, customizable Java-based programming framework for the development of highly dynamic distributed applications based on a computational model that extends an "active object" model by introducing the "mobile active object" concept in order to support a multi paradigm design approach. In particular, mobile active objects are autonomous network-aware entities or mobile agents which coordinate to one another through on-demand installable interaction spaces featured by events.
