the Internet of things (IoT) devices generate a large amount of data that get processed in the cloud. Typically, different IoT devices will be allocated to the same Fifth Generation (5G) mobile network slice, on which the IoT services will be using different containers. While cloud containers can offer many benefits, they also introduce new security risks from co-resident containers that can be particularly problematic for IoT devices. the need for long-lasting batteries is essential for the success of wireless-connected IoT devices, particularly in applications where regular battery replacement is impractical or impossible. Energy Depletion Attacks (EDA) can drastically reduce the lifespan of IoT sensor device batteries, whereas Synergistic Power Attacks (SPA) can cause power outages in data centers and disrupt critical services. Although EDA and SPA have been studied in the literature, the IoT cloud information leakages with the advent of network slicing concepts in 5G and 6G leading to these attacks have not been addressed yet. this paper presents comprehensive studies of 5G-Advanced IoT cloud framework and related attacks. It reveals novel systematic methods through which powerful stealth Cloud Container-Based EDA (CC-EDA) and Cloud Container-Based SPA (CC-SPA) can be launched. these attacks are difficult to detect as the attacker impersonates a valid IoT management system and manipulates the system's behavior. With a quantitative assessment of the performance of a battery under attack, this paper additionally shows that an aggressive CC-EDA will be deeply damaging and can bring down the entire IoT network within a day. Possible mitigation strategies to address the security concerns associated with IoT cloud-based attacks are proposed. © 2023 IEEE.

Edge computing provides mobile and Internet of things (IoT) application users with a new distributed computing paradigm that allows them to offload their tasks at edge servers. this way, the application users can reduce latency and energy consumption. To realize edge computing services in practice, it is necessary to design a mechanism that motivates edge service providers by promising higher utility in return (higher payment) for providing edge computing facilities. So, in this paper, we formulate an optimization problem called application assignment for servers’ profit maximization (SPM-AA) that aims to maximize servers’ profit in the system. First, we show that it is NP-hard to find the optimal solution for SPM-AA. then using a dynamic programming approach, we propose a distributed algorithm using dynamic programming in a synchronized edge computing environment for maximizing servers’ profit called SPM-AAA. Finally, we conduct simulations and compared existing schemes to demonstrate the performance improvement of our algorithms in terms of servers’ profit, the number of applications assigned, server utilization, and resource request service ratio. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, we propose a distributed resource sharing protocol for distributed peer to peer cooperation among a set of nearby fog nodes, managed by different and competing providers. the protocol is based on the notion of fair cooperation that allows fog nodes to reach optimal resource sharing. We adopt an analytical approach to study the cooperation problem of providers subject to different load conditions. We then report a simulation study that confirms our findings.

Hospitals or Health organizations collect data from patients and store it in databases. the data are scattered in different locations and significant to share from remote places for serving quality treatment and urgent decisions. Any data alternation while transmitting through the transmission channel may cause security issues like data integrity. Data integrity is essential because any alteration of data can hamper medical diagnoses by losing sensitive data. Watermarking could be a practical approach for ensuring such data security with a lower computational cost. Various strategies of watermarking were used to secure health data, especially images. However, watermarking for patient text data has been difficult due to the availability of the right techniques. therefore, this paper introduces a new watermarking strategy to share patient text from distributed databases. We use the prescription data for testing the proposed system. the experimental results indicate that the method outperforms the existing method against intended attacks. © 2022 Association for computing Machinery.

Federated learning (FL) is an emerging approach in the field of Artificial Intelligence of things (AIoT) that enables collaborative model training across multiple edge devices or IoT nodes while protecting data privacy. However, FL faces significant challenges, particularly regarding the non-Independent and Identically distributed (non-IID) data across IoT devices. Despite the considerable efforts dedicated to address this issue, existing approaches seriously impact on the speed of convergence in FL. In this paper, we propose MDFL, a novel FL framework that incorporates a distance-based participant selection strategy to enhance the overall performance and efficiency. MDFL eliminates the consistency among clients regarding the epochs of local training and the weighted coefficient of server aggregation. Specifically, our method allows strong participants to achieve more training epochs and gain a larger weighting proportion during the aggregation. We evaluate the effectiveness of our approach on the MNIST and FashionMNIST datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that MDFL achieves superior performance, improving the test accuracy from 0.9% to 1.8% on MNIST and from 0.6% to 1.0% on FashionMNIST, respectively. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s)

networking is a core enabler of telesurgery, which has used networking research innovations for various surgical sub-specialties and geographical regions. this paper systematically reviews how networking research innovations have explicitly been carried out to improve telesurgery performance and summarizes future lines of research and innovation. We used networking (or networks) and telesurgery (or remote surgery) as our inclusion criteria, excluding non-computer networks such as healthcare networks. Our initial screening on IEEE, PubMed, and Scopus for networking research innovations aimed at telesurgery yielded 17,854 studies. We extracted data from 15 papers after the title, abstract, and full-text screening of the identified studies. A review of the 15 studies shows innovations in networking protocols, integration with connectivity providers, distributed systems, and adaptive approaches to enhance telesurgery. these innovative approaches optimize telesurgery applications across medical domains in research and practice. Recently, research has also focused on how telesurgery networks can be made more flexible through approaches such as Software-Defined networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). We also note the rise in networking research innovations in recent years compared to the past. networking has undergone several innovations to enhance bandwidth while minimizing latency, latency variations (jitter), and data loss. networking research innovations have been leveraged locally in many countries and between nations, facilitating specialist care in remote regions that lack healthcare access. We foresee that networking research innovations will continue to revolutionize telesurgery applications and reach in the future. © 2022 IEEE.

Federated cloud has emerged as solution for cloud service providers to get scalability in serving the growing demand for cloud resources. In a federated cloud, a cloud member can provide service or request it from other cloud provider members in the federation. the federation enables its cloud provider members to be able to satisfy a service beyond the resources they owned by using the resources market in the federation. Data privacy is a major concern in federated clouds. As the privacy regulations and laws of the countries in the federation may vary, it is difficult to assess and confirm that they are in compliance. this makes protecting privacy even more challenging. Privacy management strategies primarily involve anonymization, cryptography, and data splitting. Anonymization is the traditional approach to preserving privacy, which aims at masking the link between the quasi-identifier and sensitive data. the most widely used anonymization techniques are k-anonymity, l-diversity and t-closeness. However, there is a lack of a formal metric to measure the quality of the anonymization process in terms of its ability to prevent re-identification. this paper examines the issue of assessing anonymization quality and introduces a new metric, Mmaq, for this purpose. It can be used to evaluate the anonymization of one or multiple attributes. the metric is a combination of the Shannon index, which measures diversity, and a stabilizer factor, which corrects the Shannon index for pathological cases. the initial results suggest that Mmaq can be used to classify attributes as identifier, quasi-identifier, and anonymous. Furthermore, it can be employed as a Cloud Privacy Policy anonymization compliance checker.

Stable and quadratic-optimal parallel-distributed-compensation controller design for time-varying Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model System: A complementary computational approach

A complementary computational approach is proposed for the time-varying Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model system (TVTSFMS). the proposed approach integrates orthogonal-functional approach (OFA), hybrid Taguchi genetic algorithm (HTGA), and a stabilizability condition (SC) for use in designing stable and quadratic-optimal parallel-distributed-compensation (SQOPDC) controllers for optimal control problems. First, the SC was set according to linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Next, OFA was used to derive an algorithm that only required algebraic computation to solve the TVTSFMS. Finally, the HTGA could be used to search the SQOPDC controller for the TVTSFMS. the SQOPDC controller obtained by the proposed complementary computational approach was evaluated in a case study of a vibratory pendulum design;the successful design verified the usability of the proposed hybrid intelligent computing method.
