the Budget-based Neighboring Object Group Query (BR-NOGQ) is a novel type of location-based query that considers both the spatial relationships between objects and the user's budget constraints on experiencing these objects. However, processing a large number of BR-NOGQs concurrently can overload a centralized system, leading to poor performance. To address this issue, this paper focuses on developing a distributed processing technique for answering multiple BR-NOGQs using the MapReduce platform. the proposed approach involves designing a grid structure to manage information about different types of objects and developing a MapReduce-based algorithm for efficient distributed processing of multiple BR-NOGQs. Experimental results using a synthetic dataset demonstrate the scalability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

In the context of Cloud-Fog computing (CFC) efficient Task Scheduling (TS) plays a critical role in optimizing resource allocation and meeting the increasingly complex performance demands of modern computing infrastructures. this study introduces an advanced iteration of the Mexican Axolotl Optimization (MAO) algorithm, a bio-inspired metaheuristic designed to address the intricate challenges of task scheduling in dynamic and distributed computing environments. the MAO algorithm presented here incorporates advanced heuristics, self-optimization mechanisms, and innovative features to significantly improve task scheduling processes. By imitating the axolotl's capacity for self-healing, the algorithm offers a solution that is both robust and adaptable to dynamic computing conditions, making it well-suited to the challenges posed by CFC. the primary objectives of the MAO algorithm are to improve resource allocation, reduce latency, and enhance overall operational efficiency in cloud and fog computing ecosystems. It achieves this by optimizing the allocation of computing tasks to available resources, taking into account factors such as makespan time, success rate and response time, while dynamically adapting the fluctuations in workloads and resource availability. By enhancing resource utilization and reducing response time, this algorithm is poised to make significant contributions to the efficiency, reliability, and overall performance of CFC infrastructures. the experimental findings indicate that the proposed algorithm exhibits superior performance in terms of makespan and response time reduced by 28% and 36%, success rate increased by 31 % and compared to alternative approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

the particle Markov-chain Monte Carlo (PMCMC) method is a stochastic algorithm that combines Particle Filters (PFs) and Markov-chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques. this approach is widely used in Bayesian inference for high-dimensional state spaces and nonlinear, non-Gaussian dynamic systems. However, current PMCMC accelerators face significant challenges due to their intensive computational complexity and the intricate particle routing, limiting their application in real-time scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose a novel distributed PMCMC method that leverages parallel computing to enhance hardware execution speed. Additionally, our method introduces a particle exchange scheme that not only resolves the accuracy issues caused by particle routing in distributed PMCMC but also achieves faster computing speed. Our design is implemented on a Xilinx Kintex-7 xc7k480t FPGA device. Experimental results demonstrate that our accelerator is nearly 65x faster than CPU performance, and provides speedups up to 5x compared to existing FPGA-based accelerators.

the scarcity of energy resources and computational capabilities poses significant challenges for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) when tasked with executing time-sensitive and complex demands, such as those necessary for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled applications. Integrating Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) in Ground-Air Cooperative Systems offers a promising solution by providing additional computational and storage capacities near the point of need. However, these systems' distributed, dynamic, and resource-constrained nature presents a critical challenge for efficient task scheduling. this study introduces a novel two-tiered distributed online task scheduling approach aimed at optimizing the resource utilization of UGVs in edge computing environments. Our methodology encompasses two algorithms: a task dispatching algorithm designed to identify a UGV server that meets the deadline requirements while minimizing energy consumption and a computing scheduling algorithm that employs the Earliest Deadline First (EDF) strategy to refine the sequence in which tasks are processed, thereby reducing the average task completion time. We thoroughly assess the performance of the suggested algorithm with state-of-the-art methods using the OMNeT++ network simulator. the outcomes indicate that the proposed method significantly reduces the average task latency and energy consumption while meeting task deadline requirements.

We consider the problem of cost-effectively mapping a swarm of soft real-time stream processing applications with moldable-parallel tasks to multicore resources in the device-edge-cloud continuum, consisting of mobile devices, edge resources and cloud resources. We leverage flexibility from different parallelization degrees and frequency levels (DVFS) for the tasks, keeping application throughput constraints and communication bandwidth limitations while minimizing overall cost (including device/edge resource energy and cloud resource renting). We present two offline algorithmic solutions with a global view of the environment: an integer linear program (ILP) extending the crown scheduling approach for multi-layer distributed systems and a greedy heuristic algorithm. Our experimental evaluation for several real-world and synthetic scenarios shows that the time required for solving the scheduling problem to cost-optimality by the ILP is feasible for nontrivial scenarios. the heuristic achieves about 12% worse cost efficiency on average, yet operates much faster (by 1-2 orders of magnitude), allowing to scale up the problem size more than the ILP approach.

Moving applications from the local Internet of things devices to neighboring infrastructures has been the highlight of the current distributed computing era. Due to high latency and network bottlenecks, Cloud computing has become rather problematic for real-time applications. Accordingly, Fog computing has been presented as the missing piece to provide along with cloud computing for virtually all applications. Application virtualization through containers has become more and more popular in the context of Fog computing as it simplifies live migration and, in particular, offloading of time-critical applications or their selected tasks. However, the measurement study of the overall offloading latency in Fog computing has not been sufficiently investigated. this article proposes a measurement analysis of the offloading latency of time-critical application tasks from the end device, such as a vehicle, to surrounding Fog nodes based on Docker containers, Kubernetes, and checkpointing. Based on our layered offloading framework, several offloading scenarios have been studied. the experimental results show that by preparing the Fog nodes in advance through careful, easy arrangements, considerable time can be saved when offloading the application to the Fog node within the Fog cluster. We further consider Vehicular Fog computing (VFC) as a popular example of time-critical Fog computing and assess the suitability of various offloading strategies for VFC use cases.

Fog computing is a distributed paradigm that extends cloud computing closer to the edge of the network, and even beyond that. By employing local resources, it enables quicker and more effective data processing and analysis. the optimization and automation of resource allocation, data processing, and job scheduling in the fog environment are made possible by the application of machine learning to Fog computing Orchestration. It is also important, when working with the network computing models, to consider the XaaS paradigm, as it promotes the flexibility and scalability of fog services, bringing the concept of "service" into the foreground. therefore, the need for a fog orchestrator enabling such characteristics arises, leveraging AI and the "service-centric" approach to enhance users' service fruition. the design and development of such an orchestrator will be the objective of the early-stage PhD project presented in this paper.

In approaching predictive salary modeling, this article identified important job positions and skills in the data science business environment. they show the need for a model that would allow employers to calculate the required starting salary while considering sectors, Python known languages, SQL, and ML. It also analyzes linear regression models, Random Forests, and neural network point of view about salary prediction. Analyzing the findings, it is proved that skill-based salary models should be further developed to meet industry requirements, advise students, and support employers. We have applied various models as follows with random forest performing the best giving out an R2 score of 0.971. the ideas for building faultless, precision, and skill-based salary estimation models are presented to the readers at the end of the article. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent decades, technological progress has extended across various areas, including integrated circuits in processors, networking, wireless devices, storage technologies, and software. these advancements have enabled computer systems architecture to foster new fields of innovation while continuously adapting to meet rising consumer expectations. Historically, these expectations have shifted from isolated home computers with limited data access to a demand for seamless connectivity through smart devices. Most recently, demands for connectivity to Artificial Intelligence applications have surged, potentially outpacing the market's demand for computing circuits. As training and fine-tuning large AI models require significant computing power, the ability to efficiently handle a single large workload across multiple machines will become more crucial than the traditional flexibility offered by cloud architectures for diverse workloads. To respond to this evolving customer demand for AI, we propose and outline a necessary shift in computer systems architecture. this shift involves changes in data center processing architecture towards hybrid systems and applications, including smart devices. this paper discusses a transition towards an open, hybrid computer systems architecture designed to meet the increasing demands for AI applications. Gaussian distributed random signal has broad prospects in various applications. Random signal generators make it easy to generate Gaussian distributed random signals, greatly promoting the widespread application of Gaussian distributed random signals. Research has shown that chaotic signals not only possess randomness but also other characteristics that random signals do not have. In some application scenarios, chaotic signals are superior to random signals. However, chaotic signals are typically not in accordance with Gaussian distribution due to the invariant distribution of chaotic systems. therefore, this paper proposes a strategy for implementing Gaussian-type chaotic signals based on the Lorenz system to address the acquisition problem of Gaussian distributed chaotic signals. Firstly, the Lorenz chaotic system is selected as the intrinsic signal source, and a non-parametric estimation algorithm is used to solve its probability density function and probability distribution function. then, a transformation algorithm is proposed to transform the intrinsic signal into Gaussian distributed chaotic signals. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by implementing Gaussian distributed chaotic signals with different parameters. © 2024 IEEE.
