In this paper, I have presented a paradigm based on Smart-Messages. A Smart-Message is a message that carries intelligence in the form of a program element. the paper discusses the anatomy of a Smart-Message along-with its application in solving two of the important problems in distributed systems: Leader election problem and Mutual exclusion problem.

Heterogeneous network is a promising solution to improve the energy efficiency of the cellular system. In this work, an energy efficient power management scheme designed for LTE femtocells is presented. Using user and service classification, the proposed algorithm balances the network coverage, average data rate and energy consumption. Simulation results confirms the superiority of proposed algorithm in energy efficiency and coverage.

the Grid computing environment is proposed as a way to enhance the efficiency of the underlying system by maximizing utilization of distributed resources. Dynamic resource allocation algorithms are used to dynamically allocate suitable resources to users' tasks. the efficiency of these algorithms is then vital for boththe usability of the Grid system and fulfilling its objective. In this paper, we define a formal model of a Grid system suitable for a formal analysis of resource allocation algorithms in Grid computing. We also discuss the use of information which is available to resource allocation algorithm developers, such as researchers and students, who do not have access to an internal Grid to compute the efficiency of their algorithms.

Ensuring area coverage is one of the key requirements of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). When nodes are randomly placed in the area of interest, redundancy is often provisioned in order to lower the probability of having voids, where part of the area is not within the detection range of any sensor. To extend the lifetime of the network, a duty cycle mechanism is often applied in which only a subset of the nodes are activated at a certain time while the other nodes switch to low-power mode. the set of active nodes are changed over time in order to balance the load on the individual sensors. the selection of active nodes is subject to meeting the coverage requirement. Assessing the coverage of a sensor is based on knowing its position. However, localization schemes usually yield a margin of errors which diminishes the coverage fidelity. Conservative approaches for mitigating the position inaccuracy assume the worst-case error across the network and end up activating excessive number of nodes and reduces the network lifetime. In this paper, we present an approach for estimating a bound on the maximum error for the position of each sensor and propose a distributed algorithm for achieving high fidelity coverage while engaging only a subset of the sensors. the simulation results confirm the performance advantages of our approach.

the concept of connectedness, as inspired by Social networking Service, is a key factor which participates in changing the way people interact with each other over the Internet. On the other hand, connected world as envisioned by the Internet of things aims to expand the idea of connectivity to include everything in the physical world to a big network called the Internet. In order to realize the integration between the world of connected people and the world of connected devices, intelligence including semantics and recommendation acts as a key factor to expand the basic communication functionalities to include search, discovery, mashup of new services and filtering. We propose a framework to facilitate the next generation of communication between people and devices, and a preliminary prototype including three modules DPWSim, thingsGate, thingsChat along with a use case discussion.

In ubiquitous environment context awareness approach plays a vital role in adaptability to users requirements. Context-sensitive systems meet specific requirements correctly, only if context information possesses the desired quality of context (QoC). Context data can be unreliable or inaccurate, thus undermining the potential of context-aware services. Some researches adopt a conflict resolution approach through the utilization of few QoC parameters. Other studies define policies based on QoC parameters to resolve conflicts. Both efforts do not exploit application requirements to ensure quality of context. In this research work it is proposed a QoC filtering approach. Our proposal intends to use in a better fashion the context provider, sending only relevant data to the context server. Besides that we present QoC policies, based in terms of application requirements and QoC parameters, which are used in a validation process to filter context data. the experimental simulation indicates a reduction in the amount of data sent and also an improvement on the quality of context on transmitted data.

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications emerge to achieve ubiquitous communications among all the networked devices. One challenging problem in M2M applications is to discover the resources provided by the devices efficiently. this challenge arises from two perspectives: (1) a large number of heterogeneous devices co-exist and most of them are constrained devices (e. g., limited processing capability), (2) different communication protocols are utilized to get access to different types of resources provided by the devices (e. g., humidity information provided by a sensor). this paper proposes distributed resource directory architecture for M2M applications, referred to as DRD4M. the DRD4M supports heterogeneous devices using HTTP and CoAP protocols for resource registration and lookup. this enables the interoperability among heterogeneous devices and resource access to constrained devices from disparate network including the Internet. the DRD4M introduces two components: a resource registration component for registering resources and a resource lookup component with caching functionality for handling resource lookup with filtering. A peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay is introduced in DRD4M to connect resource peers to avoid single point of failure. A real-world prototype is implemented and is verified with a demo application. Preliminary performance evaluation in terms of response time of resource lookup is provided.

In smart homes, it is essential to reliably detect events including water leakages. A control action, such as shutting the water pipes, relies on reliable event detection. In this demo, a wireless sensor network for detection and localization of events in smart homes is presented. the demo is based on novel distributed detection-estimation and localization algorithms. A graphical user interface to visualize in real-time the network status is developed. Upon a detected event, the user is alerted through a Twitter notification. In the experiments the false alarm probability is improved by 30% and the average relative localization error is 1.7%.
