this paper contributes to the runtime cross-cutting concerns problem by a layer structure model based on UML (Unified-modeling Language) and code generation to COP (Context-Oriented Programming). For software development, the cross-cutting concerns problem is well-known to cause complicated models. the reason is that one cross-cutting concern affects multiple objects. Also, the problems occasionally occur at runtime. Recently, this problem has become more challenging. Modern software such as IoTs usually connect with many machines and devices and change context-dependent behavior at runtime. thus, runtime crosscutting problems will occur increasingly. To solve this problem, we focus on the COP. It can gather scattered cross-cutting concerns in one module called the layer and change the layer at runtime. However, UML lacks the notation involving COP and also the code generation. therefore, the first step to solve the runtime crosscutting concerns problem is to propose a layer structure model on UML and COP code generation from its model.

software design is fundamental to developing high-quality, sustainable, maintainable software. Design languages, such as UML, have become the defacto standard in software design, but their infiltration in the mainstream practices remains vague. Recent studies suggest significant and increasing uptake in mainstream and open source spheres. Mining repositories and the software modeling artifacts often underpin the findings of these studies and focus on counting the instances of modeling artifacts as an indicator for adoption. this study aims to characterize this uptake in greater depth by focusing on analyzing the instances of models in open source projects. the goal is to uncover the profiles of developers who tend to create modeling artifacts, and those developers who maintain them throughout the project life cycle and to uncover the timelines of model creation and manipulation in reference to project evolution. this study sheds light on the nature of model-based collaboration and interactions and characterizes the role of model-based artifacts well beyond mining their presence in open source repositories. the study finds that, despite the nominal increase in the presence of model-based artifacts, these artifacts are rarely maintained and are typically created by a small and unique set of practitioners. models are often created early in the project life cycle and do not play any significant role in the collaborative development activities of the subject projects. Life span of these model files is relatively shorter than the code file life span. Unexpectedly, models tend to be more frequently updated and maintained when the project has a relatively fewer number of models.

Requirements engineering is pivotal to the successful development of any given system. the core artifact for such phase is the requirements specification document. Requirements can be specified in informal, semiformal, and formal notations. the majority of the requirements across many fields and domains are written natural language. However, natural language is inherently ambiguous and imprecise and the requirements cannot be automatically validated. Formal notations on the other hand enable automated testing and validation but is only comprehensible by experts and requires rewriting the requirements. Semi-formal notations strikes a good balance between comprehension and checking for several systems. However, the majority of the existing representation models mandates the requirements to be (re)written to adhere to certain templates. they also do not support automated checking. In this paper, we present SRCM -a semi-formal requirements representation model based on a comprehensive requirements capturing model (RCM) that does not enforce much limitations on how the requirements can be written. We also provide an automated approach to construct SRCM from RCM. In addition to providing a unified visualisation of the system entities and relations between the requirements key components, SRCM also enables automated quality checking on the requirements.

Background. Systems modeling in Production Systems engineering (PSE) is complex: Multiple views from different disciplines have to be integrated, while semantic differences stemming from various descriptions must be bridged. Aim. this paper proposes the Multi-view modeling Framework (MvMF) approach and architecture of a model transformation pipeline. the approach aims to ease setup and shorten configuration effort of multi-view modeling operations and support the reusability of modeling environments, like additional view integration. Method. We combine multi-view modeling with principles from distributed, agile workflows, i.e., Git and Continuous Integration. Results. the MvMF provides a light-weight modeling operation environment for AutomationML (AML) models. We show MvMF capabilities and demonstrate the feasibility of MvMF with a demonstrating use case including fundamental model operation features, such as compare and merge. Conclusion. Increasing requirements on the traceability of changes and validation of system designs require improved and extended model transformations and integration mechanisms. the proposed architecture and prototype design represents a first step towards an agile PSE modeling workflow.

model transformations are among the key concepts of model-driven engineering (MDE), and dedicated model transformation languages (MTLs) emerged with the popularity of the MDE paradigm about 15 to 20 years ago. MTLs claim to increase the ease of development of model transformations by abstracting from recurring transformation aspects and hiding complex semantics behind a simple yet intuitive syntax. Nonetheless, MTLs are rarely adopted in practice, there is still no empirical evidence for this claim, and the argument of abstraction deserves a fresh look in the light of modern general-purpose languages (GPLs) which have undergone a significant evolution in the last two decades. In this paper, we report about a study in which we compare the complexity of model transformations written in three different languages, namely (i) the Atlas Transformation Language (ATL), (ii) Java SE5, and (iii) Java SE14;the Java transformations are derived from an ATL specification using a translation schema we developed in terms of our study. In a nutshell, we found that some of the new features in Java SE14 compared to Java SE5 help to significantly reduce the complexity of transformations written in Java. At the same time, however, the relative amount of complexity that stems from aspects that ATL can hide from the developer stays about the same. Based on these results, we indicate potential avenues for future research on the comparison of MTLs and GPLs in a model transformation context.

Most existing automated requirements formalisation techniques require system engineers to (re)write their requirements using a set of predefined requirement templates with a fixed structure and known semantics to simplify the formalisation process. However, these techniques require understanding and memorising requirement templates, which are usually fixed format, limit requirements captured, and do not allow capture of more diverse requirements. To address these limitations, we need a reference model that captures key requirement details regardless of their structure, format or order. then, using NLP techniques we can transform textual requirements into the reference model. Finally, using a suite of transformation rules we can then convert these requirements into formal notations. In this paper, we introduce the first and key step in this process, a Requirement Capturing model (RCM) - as a reference model - to model the key elements of a system requirement regardless of their format, or order. We evaluated the robustness of the RCM model compared to 15 existing requirements representation approaches and a benchmark of 162 requirements. Our evaluation shows that RCM breakdowns support a wider range of requirements formats compared to the existing approaches. We also implemented a suite of transformation rules that transforms RCM-based requirements into temporal logic(s). In the future, we will develop NLP-based RCM extraction technique to provide end-to-end solution.

the engineering of complex, flexible production systems, Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPSs), requires integrating models across engineering disciplines. A CPPS engineering Network (CEN), an integrated multi-domain multi-view model, facilitates the assessment of risks to CPPS and product designs, i.e., risks stemming from several engineering disciplines. However, traditional risk assessment, e.g., Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), provides informal cause-effect hypotheses, which may be hard to test without interdisciplinary links through the CEN to CPPS data sources. this paper aims to improve the effectiveness of model-based cause identification and validation for risks to CPPS functions that come from modeling in several CPPS disciplines by introducing the CPPS Risk Assessment (CPPS-RA) approach for representing FMEA cause-effect hypotheses and linking them to a CEN. these links provide the basis to specify CPPS engineering and operational data required for hypothesis testing. We evaluate the CPPS-RA approach in a feasibility study on a representative use case from discrete manufacturing. In the study context, domain experts found the CPPS-RA meta-model sufficiently expressive and the CPPS-RA method useful to validate FMEA results.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a common malignant tumor in hematological diseases, and its incidence increases year by year. the membrane protein CD138 interacts with the proliferation and evolution of cancer cells during the development of MM. It is an important basis for the diagnosis of MM to obtain the data of malignant plasma cell membrane protein CD138 by single molecule localization microscopy and quantify its abnormal expression. the traditional quantitative analysis method has many drawbacks, such as a large amount of data, low speed of calculation and low accuracy. therefore, we propose a new quantitative clustering analysis method based on machine learning to judge the expression of membrane protein CD138. By fusing the external attention mechanism, the model pays more attention to the statistical characteristics of complete membrane protein data samples, and accurately quantifies the expression of CD138 in the cluster. In addition, the quantitative analysis of the clustering results in this paper provides convenience for pathologists to study the interactions between proteins. Finally, this article uses simulation data and experimental data of membrane protein CD138 to verify the accuracy and feasibility of the algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

the continuous improvement of the performance of computing units makes it possible to cope with increasingly complex tasks. this results in more complex software systems. However, the development of such highly complex systems is difficult to achieve using traditional approaches. Concepts like model-driven software development can weaken this problem in these constructive phases. However, new challenges arise for the testing of development artifacts. In order to be able to perform a real shift left of verification and validation tasks towards early phases of development, we present a semi-formal approach that enables users to execute test cases against the system under development (SUD) on the model-level. Grounded on an Integrated model Basis which is created and maintained during development, test reports are automatically derived. this opens up a wide range of possibilities for early and targeted troubleshooting.

In automotive embedded software, functions have several performance requirements such as timing, energy, safety and reliability. For such complex software architectures, an early evaluation and decision on the best set of performance configuration (e.g. timing vs energy trade-offs) could save costly corrections of potential errors in the design. For example, appropriate performance analysis workflows and frameworks if employed already during early design stages, allow us to understand the performance aspects and behavior of the system depending on software and hardware characteristics. the main input required for such analysis is the performance-analysis model based on the underlying design model. In this context, this chapter presents a workflow for synthesis of energy-aware timing analysis models for AUTOSAR-based embedded software systems developed using the Unified modeling Language (UML)/Systems modeling Language (SysML) domains. A prototype of the model transformations for the synthesis of the energy-aware timing models and its evaluation in an automotive use case is presented.
