systems and methods of multimedia video processing that employ eye-contact realization techniques for improved real time multimedia experiences. Such systems and methods of multimedia video processing are operative to employ multi-view video processing techniques by extracting eye contacts from input multi-view videos and composing input multi-view videos into one single video with free viewpoint eye contents. Having performed such video processing techniques of the input multi-view videos, a high-quality video with free viewpoint eye contacts will be delivered to an end user. By utilizing these novel systems and methods, real time multimedia experiences are significantly improved.

Improvements in network infrastructures, storage capacity and computing power, along with advances in video coding technology, are enabling an increasing popularity of multimedia applications. Traffic modeling plays an important role in the performance evaluation of network architectures and protocols. In this paper, we describe a tool for video traffic modeling. A graphical user interface is presented to facilitate the process. the proposed traffic models can be easily integrated into simulation studies.

the ECG(Electrocardiogram) is an essential diagnostic tool for identifying heart diseases and its significance is unquestionable. However, during the signal collection process, the signal is extremely susceptible to interference from various types of noise,such as baseline wander, powerline interference, electrode motion artifacts, and muscle artifacts. Although filters based on Bayesian models have been well-applied in the field of ECG signal processing, they have limitations when dealing with abnormal ECG signal morphologies. this is because these filters require predefined models to identify and process noise in the signals, and these models may not accurately reflect all types of ECG signals and noise. To address these issues, this paper presents a more flexible and precise denoising method that combines the UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter) and the EM(Expectation-Maximization) algorithm. this method does not require predefined models and can dynamically adjust according to the characteristics of the ECG signal and the type of noise to adapt to the variable noise environment. through R-peak detection and dynamic segmentation of heartbeats, this method can precisely adjust the parameters of the UKF to match specific ECG signals and noise characteristics. the EM algorithm is then used to iteratively optimize these parameters, thereby improving the denoising efficiency and accuracy. Compared with the current mainstream ECG filtering algorithms, experimental results prove that the EM-UKF filtering algorithm proposed in this paper performs better in improving the SNR(signal-to-Noise Ratio) and reducing the MSE(Mean Square Error), especially when processing ECG signals in complex noise environments. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

this paper considers the problem of signal detection in non-Gaussian noise. We propose the novel moment quality criterion decision making, where the moment's description of a random process is used for synthesis of polynomial decision rules. It is shown that the nonlinear processing of samples and taking into account higher order statistics of random process can increase the efficiency of signal detection. It is shown that the proposed models and methods allow us to increase the efficiency of signal processing in comparison with the known results. © 2018 IEEE.

We describe our current work towards a framework that establishes a hierarchy of devices (sensors and actuators) within a wireless multimedia node and uses frequent sampling of cheaper devices to trigger the activation of more energy-hungry devices. In order to identify the main modulation modes used in satellite Internet communication systems, a communication signal modulation recognition algorithm based on double-ended convolutional neural network is proposed. the time domain waveform of the signal is transformed into the high-power spectrum and the time-frequency image, and further converted into gray images as the shallow feature expressions of the signal. the modulation recognition problem is converted into an image recognition problem, and a modulation recognition model based on dual input convolutional neural network is designed. through the training of the network, the shallow features are extracted and mapped deeply, and the modulation recognition of the target signal is finally completed. the simulation results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is significantly improved compared with the single feature input modulation recognition algorithm, and it has good recognition performance for satellite Internet signals

In this paper, a design seminar on embedded systems is described for fourth year students in the multimedia and signal processing option at our electrical engineering department. the aim of the seminar is to ease lip the adaptation of the universitary curriculum to what is expected by industry of a high level engineer. the main purpose of the seminar is to provide the students with a real life problem, covering different expertise areas and multiple hardware platforms, programming techniques and development tools in order to develop a commercially viable application with off-the-shelf tools, hardware and software. the interdisciplinary character of this seminar is an excellent opportunity to see how the different topics taught in different courses interact in a real life system.

With the rapid development of natural language processing (NLP) technology, there has been increasing research on dialogue systems, as traditional dialogue systems have exhibited a series of flaws. As an important branch of dialogue systems, empathetic conversational systems have gained widespread attention from researchers. Research has shown that incorporating emotions and cognitive reasoning into dialogue systems can achieve superior results. In this paper, we introduce empathetic conversational systems from five aspects. Firstly, we discuss the concepts, definition, and development of empathetic conversational systems, and list several common datasets and standards. Additionally, based on an innovative classification of the main structure of empathetic dialogue system models, we summarize the current major methods and model structures. Finally, we discuss the shortcomings of previous work and future directions for empathetic conversational systems. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we address the register file design with Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) for multimedia processing applications. In a 32-bit processor, for one data unit of 8-bit in width, one SIMD instruction can operate on four units at a time and thus reach data parallelism of four. the data units are regarded as subwords in SIMD processing. However, performance of SIMD is often restricted by ill subword permutation in register file. therefore, we present a architecture of register file called Vector Register File (VRF) to improve the subwords permutation latency. Consequently, heavy data traffics between memory and register file can be avoided. A proprietary DSP core (codename Starfish) with simulation tool chain has been developed. the simulation and the debugging flow on the proprietary DSP core to evaluate the performance are presented. Several test benches, such as matrix transposition, deblocking filter, and discrete cosine transform (DCT) based on H.264/AVC, are applied for performance evaluation. A pipeline data hazard detection with register bypassing scheme is explored for VRF to further improve the pipeline efficiency. the simulation results show that, in average, we can improve cycle count by 29.87% and code size by 29.223%.
