Electric vehicles (EVs) are thriving to alleviate environmental issues. Conventional two-stage onboard charger (OBC) in EV only contains one large-power DC/DC converter to connect the whole battery pack to the inverter. It requires dozens of battery cells to connect in parallel and then in series for charging. parallel connection causes circulating current among batteries, increasing the loss and safety risk and decreasing the battery life. Aimed at diminishing the circulating current by reducing parallel connections of battery cells, a distributed OBC architecture is proposed in this paper. It contains a bi-directional inverter and numerous paralleled bi-directional low-power DC/DC converters. the batteries are divided into multiple clusters with less paralleled cells to interface with those DC/DC converters, respectively. Furthermore, a novel virtual synchronous machine (VSM) control is proposed for the distributed OBC, enabling the OBC to provide inertia and frequency regulation to the grid and to serve as an emergency power supply in island mode. Compared to the conventional OBC, the distributed OBC under the proposed VSM control achieves higher fault tolerance, better power allocation, less circulating current among batteries, and less current impact on the batteries. those priorities are finally verified by simulation results.

the Multi-Purpose Detector collaboration began using distributed computing for centralized Monte-Carlo generation in mid-2019. the DIRAC Interware is used as a platform for the integration of heterogeneous distributed computing resources. Since then, workflows of job submission, data transfer, and storage have been designed, tested, and successfully applied. Moreover, the growth of interest in access to the computing system from users is observed. One way to provide such access for the users is to allow them to directly submit jobs to DIRAC. However, direct access to the resources imposes a high responsibility on users and must be restricted. For this reason, another approach was chosen, i.e. to design and develop a dedicated application that collects requirements from users and starts the required number of jobs. Such an approach entails additional effort: elaboration of requirements, application design and development. Nevertheless, it allows for greater control over the workload submitted by other users, reducing possible failures and the inefficient usage of resources. © 2021 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

Enterprise resource planning is a powerful software package that enables businesses to integrate a variety of disparate functions, it is a concept whereby an organization enables effective communication and data exchange within the business units and associated third parties such as vendors and banks. SAP is the de-facto ERP software for a company that manages business operations and customer relations. Many organizations have started migrating their ERP to infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) providers like amazon web services and Microsoft Azure. though there is a significant increase and positive sentiment to migrate productive workloads to the cloud, the availability and reliability of applications remain a huge concern. No comprehensive study specifically examines the stability and availability of productive ERP workload in the cloud with large databases. Cloud brings specific advantages like faster time-to-value, moving out of expensive hardware, ease of spinning up virtual machines, and accessibility of the latest technologies in one place. there is a need for a study to specifically look into moving productive ERP workload to the cloud and a roadmap to achieve optimum stability and availability while leveraging all the advantages we get from cloud computing. the paper’s objective is to take in the experience of migrating several productive ERP landscapes with a database size ranging from 2 TB to 20 TB and propose a design roadmap to attain optimum Stability and 99.9% Availability. the design was implemented and measured for its effectiveness post-migration by comparing the application with the data before migration. SAP pre-go-live and post-go-live reports show a 33% reduction in dialog response time and a 40% improvement in response time during peak hours. the overall database grew from 8449 GB to 8703 GB during the analysis. When we extrapolate the analysis to 21 days post-migration, we see that the response time improves even further. We see 100% applicatio

distributed scientific workflow management systems processing large data sets in the Cloud face the following challenges: (a) workflow tasks require different capabilities from the machines on which they run, but at the same time, the infrastructure is highly heterogeneous, (b) the environment is dynamic and new resources can be added and removed at any time, (c) scientific workflows can become very large with hundreds of thousands of tasks, (d) faults can happen at any time in a distributed system. In this paper, we present a software architecture and a capability-based scheduling algorithm that cover all these challenges in one design. Our architecture consists of loosely coupled components that can run on separate virtual machines and communicate with each other over an event bus and through a database. the scheduling algorithm matches capabilities required by the tasks (e.g. software, CPU power, main memory, graphics processing unit) with those offered by the available virtual machines and assigns them accordingly for processing. Our approach utilises heuristics to distribute the tasks evenly in the Cloud. this reduces the overall run time of workflows and makes efficient use of available resources. Our scheduling algorithm also implements optimisations to achieve a high scalability. We perform a thorough evaluation based on four experiments and test if our approach meets the challenges mentioned above. the paper finishes with a discussion, conclusions, and future research opportunities. An implementation of our algorithm and software architecture is publicly available with the open-source workflow management system "Steep".

Cost-efficient 3D-printing can create a lot of new opportunities in engineering as it enables rapid prototyping of models and functional parts. In the present study, Polylactic acid (PLA) cubic specimens with different types of infill patterns (IPs), rectilinear, grid and cuboid, were additively manufactured by Fused Filament Fabrication 3D-printing. the PLA cubes are fabricated with one perimeter and different IPs density (10, 20, and 30%). Subsequently, the compressive strengths of the PLA materials were measured in two loading directions, i.e., the layers building direction is parallel (PD) to the loading axis and perpendicular (ND) to the loading direction. An optical microscope was used to examine the deformed IPs in both loading directions. the compressive flow stress curves of the PLA cubes infilled with rectilinear and grid patterns exhibited strong fluctuations with lower compressive strengths in the loading direction along ND. the PLA with 30% grid IP revealed a superior strength of ∼12 kN in the loading direction along PD. On the contrary, the same material exhibited a worst compressive strength 3 kN along ND. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

the evolving network infrastructure, particularly the 5G core network, is increasingly adopting cloud technologies. this shift brings to the forefront the challenge of meeting the demanding per-packet processing requirements posed by multi-hundred Gbps Ethernet NICs (network interface cards). While traditional NFV (network function virtualization) platforms are effective on older hardware, the per-packet run-to-completion (RTC) execution model for per-packet processing suffers from stalling on state access due to L1/L2 cache misses. Although previous work applying software prefetching can mitigate the issues, their applications are fundamentally limited by the nature of a single execution stream, hence limiting them to batch lookups, suffering from control-flow divergence, and requiring manual tuning. To address the limitations, we introduce a novel interleaved function stream execution model that exploits the function-level parallelism through memory-level parallelism, targeting feature-rich network functions such as 5G Core. To provide the visibility into network functions, we introduce a novel programming model based on the principle of Granular Decomposition, which provides deep visibility into the state access by decoupling the state in a more fine-grained manner compared to traditional modular approaches. We integrate these two innovative designs into a new open-source NF platform, which we refer to as GuNFu. We have tested GuNFu on widely deployed network functions such as 5G UPF (User Plane Function), 5G AMF (Access Management Function), NAT (Network Address Translator) and others. Extensive evaluations reveal that GuNFu can achieve throughput ranging from 1.5 to 6 times over the traditional modular approach.

In recent years, the use of solar energy from renewable energy sources has been increasing. Solar energy can be used directly for electricity and heat generation, as well as for small-scale use in smart cities such as traffic lights, city lighting, vehicle charging stations. the Internet of things enables remote monitoring and control of solar energy systems, diagnosis of faults that may occur in the system and increasing system efficiency. the energy production of the system can be monitored depending on the time of day, and if solar tracking systems are applied, tracking angles can be monitored too. In this study, the electrical parameters of a solar panel such as voltage, current values, orientation of the solar panel and the light intensity in the outdoor environment were recorded in the cloud storage area by sensors. the data obtained from all sensors are evaluated and preprocessed by the microcontroller. these collected data are transferred to comparable graphs under two different light intensities. the proposed work is an example of an application that, if scaled up, can be used in monitoring larger-scale systems where solar panels can be grouped in series and parallel. the novel contribution of the study is to evaluate the basic electrical parameters and orientation of solar panels together and to monitor the faults (voltage, current, solar tracking system induced faults) caused by these characteristics.

Large-scale computing centers supporting modern scientific experiments store and analyze vast amounts of data. A noticeable number of computing jobs executed within the complex distributed computing environments ends with errors of some kind, and the amount of error log data generated every day complicates manual analysis by human experts. Moreover, traditional methods such as specifying regular expression patterns to automatically group error messages become impractical in a heterogeneous computing environment without a well-defined structure of error messages. ClusterLogs framework for error message clustering was developed to address this challenge. the framework can discover common patterns in error messages from various sources and group them together. One of the essential results of this process is the clear automated description of the resulting clusters, which will be used for the analysis. In this research, we propose that interpreting error messages as a natural language allows us to use transformer-based deep learning models such as BERT for this task. A model for extracting the relevant part of messages was trained and integrated into ClusterLogs to represent each cluster as a few actionable items, ensuring better interpretation and validation of the results of clustering. In this work consider a distributed computing system in which the control functions are dispersed in several dominant nodes that are directly connected to all the others. this configuration reduces the vulnerability of the entire network, since the failure of a single control element immediately disrupts its operation. On the other hand, the large length of the maximum shortest chain (diameter) increases the data transfer time, which is bad for the functioning of the entire system. the connection of the maximum shortest chain of a distributed network graph with the size of a certain dominant set is investigated. the structure of a graph with a maximum diameter on the set of all graphs with a given dominant set is presented, a diametrical chain is constructed, and the value of the extreme diameter is estimated. Based on this construction, it is possible to generate various network graphs with a given dominant set and a diameter that takes certain values. A number of operations are proposed that change the edge set of the original graph. As a result, this method provides a way to construct graph structures with given metric characteristics. the paper describes the main components of the NANOHLIT virtual research environment (VRE), developed as part of the joint MLIT and BLTP JINR project, for physical processes modeling in complex systems based on Josephson Junctions. VRE is developed and deployed on the basis of the heterogeneous HybriLIT computing platform (LIT JINR). One of the features of the developed VRE is the use of high-performance calculations on heterogeneous computing platforms. the main goals of creating NANOHLIT were to create a convenient research environment for working with models, performing calculations by various groups of researchers and ensuring storage of simulation results. VRE combines convenient web-based tools for creating models, an interface for performing calculations on the heterogeneous computing platform HybriLIT and tools for results visualization and analysis. © 2021 CEUR-WS.
