Implementing intelligent mobile applications on IoT devices with DNN technology has become an inevitable trend. Due to the limitations of the size of DNN model deployed onto end devices and the instability of wide-area network transmission, either End-only mode or Cloud-only mode cannot guarantee the reasonable latency and recognition accuracy simultaneously. A better solution is to exploit the edge computing, where the existing edge computing execution framework and offloading mechanism for DNN inference suffer unnecessary computational overheads and underutilized computing capacity of end and edge. To address these shortcomings, an adaptive distributed DNN inference acceleration framework for edge computing environment is proposed in this paper, where DNN computation path optimization and DNN computation partition optimization are taken into consideration. the evaluations demonstrate that our method can effectively accelerate the DNN inference compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

Satellites make use of thrusters related to their missions, station keeping maneuvers and end-of-life transfers. One of the secondary effects of thruster firings are the disturbing forces and torques caused by the interactions between the plume and satellite. A comprehensive numerical effort is conducted to predict disturbing forces and torques due to thruster plume and give input to mission related performance such as the amount needed for the lifetime of the satellite. A numerical approach which is based on Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method is used to model the plume of thrusters making use of adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and Message Passing Interface (MPI). the individual simulations are able to predict the disturbing forces and torques given the position, orientation and exit profiles of thrusters on a geostationary satellite geometry. the other major focus of the study is to efficiently sweep the design parameter space, create response surface functions (RSF) that are orders of magnitude faster than actual high fidelity simulations and feed these RSFs into orbit propagation tools.

the study on oil flow rate, pressure drop (pressure losses) behaviour of ester oil group (both natural and synthetic ester oil) due to its higher viscous nature is important for thermal designer during thermal design stage, since oil flow distribution within the winding has a direct impact on thermal performance of the transformer. During oil directed (OD) cooling modes, the static pressure drop over the continuous disc type of winding determines the ester oil split among low voltage windings (LV) and high voltage windings (HV) which is connected hydraulically in parallel. In addition, the oil flow distribution in disc type of transformer windings in conjunction with power loss (no-load and load loss) of transformer will decide the location and magnitude of the hotspot temperature in transformer. Hence, there is still a technical challenge with ester oil for transformer manufacturers and utilities to use in large rating power transformers mainly in OD cooling modes. In this paper, the effects of mineral oil and ester oil on frictional pressure, gravitational pressure, oil flow rate, velocity in cooling duct, temperature distributions in top and bottom insulation, main winding zones, core, radiators and coolers are investigated under OD cooling conditions. the typical transformer rating of 60/75/90MVA, 220/33kV is considered for thermal analysis. Since, natural ester oil and synthetic ester oil are potentially different in thermal properties, the thermal analysis results are compared with mineral oil. the thermal hydraulic network model (thNM model) are used for fast calculations of thermal parameters in typical large power transformer. the power losses distributions are calculated from FEM based simulations as an input for thermal analysis. © 2020 IEEE.

After the radar detects the target by transmitting signal, the target returns echo signal, which contains the position and velocity of the target. To meet the demand of high-performance echo computing for real-time radar simulation, this paper proposes a frequency domain algorithm for calculating echoes based on GPU. the experiments are conducted to compare the execution time on CPU and GPU. Moreover, we do a lot of tests to contrast the traditional GPU acceleration time domain algorithm and the algorithm proposed in this paper. the results show that, compared with the traditional CPU-based simulator, the GPU-based simulator calculates the echo faster. And with the increase of the number of sampling points, speedup ratio rises. Compared with the existing GPU acceleration time domain algorithm, the GPU-based frequency domain algorithm for calculating echo improves the real-time performance, and with the increase of the number of the targets in the scene, the acceleration ratio promotes obviously. Furthermore, the phase offset due to the time delay is performed in the frequency domain directly, which improve the ranging accuracy. © 2019 IEEE.

For the development and maintenance of distributed systems, it is useful to analyze the system condition and utilization for each hardware component. With pulseAT, a tool has been developed which collects that system utilization systematically with lightweight pulseAT Agents. the hierarchical structure of pulseAT allows having all system utilization data at one place on a pulseAT Manager to show an overall current health condition of the system. A cloud-based pulseAT Analyzer stores the data into a time-based database to support long-term analyses and to process analyzing algorithms, e.g., to forecast future health conditions. this paper describes the structure of pulseAT, main concepts, e.g., how the response time for each component is calculated. Some technical details of the implementation are shown. Finally, it describes how pulseAT has been tested on a mobile robot, the DAEbot. © 2019 IEEE.

the high-level synthesis converting software to hardware automatically is one of the important technologies for significantly reducing the burden caused by developing hardware module. the embedded image processing products need the HLS to quickly implement a hardware module achieving high-performance with low-power consumption instead of software implementation for high-computational processing. However, the HLS tool cannot generate a hardware module with high-performance and low-power consumption expected when the software program without deep consideration about the hardware organization to be generated is input. this paper shows a software description method to extract some parallelisms by duplicating the histograms in the automatic image binarization which is called as Otsu's method in order to improve a performance of the hardware module HLS generates. the experimental results show the effect of our description method about the performance and the amount of hardware. We also discuss about a trade-off among the parallelism, performance and amount of hardware. © 2019 IEEE.

the numerical simulation of complex astrophysical problems requires high-performance computing due to the large size of the problems and variety of simulated physical processes. In this paper, we present a new framework for the numerical simulation of astrophysical fluid dynamics. It is based on the mechanisms of combining distributed and parallel computing techniques, advanced vectorization for KNL, and Skylake-SP CPU architectures. Our new HydroBox3D framework uses large 3D meshes to solve problems such as the dynamics of stars or galaxies. In our framework, we use computational nodes with a large amount of memory (RAM or Intel Optane in memory mode) for mesh processing and typical computational nodes for the numerical simulation of astrophysical problems. We use MPI both for send/receive operations between computational nodes and for sending processed data for calculations from data nodes. For optimization of calculations, memory, and CPU usage, we use data vectorization, FMA3, and AVX-512 instructions for Intel Xeon Phi 72XX and Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Benchmark results on different CPU and MIC devices show the effectiveness of the proposed solution. © 2019 IEEE.

Proposed paper presents a new model-based Gaussian clustering method and defines new optimization criteria for model-based clustering, which are used as fitness functions in genetic algorithm. these optimization criteria are based on different properties of covariance matrices. the proposed model-based Gaussian clustering method is compared with the well-known K-Means method that is solved by genetic algorithm or by Particle Swarm Optimization method. Our method achieves higher similarity between real classification and computed clustering results on all six presented real-world datasets. Because of the high computational requirements of the used methods we have focused on their parallelization. Due to the chosen parallel computer architecture we have combined both MPI and OpenMP programing interfaces. We show that parallelization of the proposed method is very effective and scalable on many execution units.

Modern heuristic optimization systems leverage the parallel processing power of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Many states are maintained and evaluated in parallel to improve runtime by orders of magnitudes in comparison to purely CPUbased approaches. A well known example is the parallel Monte Carlo tree search, which is often used in combination with more advanced machine-learning methods these days. However, all approaches require different optimization states in memory to update or manipulate variables and observe their behavior over time. Large real-world problems often require a large number of states that are typically limited by the amount of available memory. this is particularly challenging in cases in which older states (that are not currently being evaluated) are still required for backtracking purposes. In this paper, we propose a new general high-level approach to track and reconstruct states in the scope of heuristic optimization systems on GPUs. Our method has a considerably lower memory consumption compared to traditional approaches and scales well with the complexity of the optimization problem. © 2019 IEEE.

In this work, we consider heuristic algorithms for parallel jobs execution and efficient resources allocation in heterogeneous computing environments. Existing modern job-flow execution features and realities impose many restrictions for the resources allocation procedures. Emerging virtual organizations and incorporated economic scheduling models allow users and resource owners to compete for suitable allocations based on market principles and fair scheduling policies. Subject to these features a special dynamic programming scheme is proposed to select resources depending on how they fit a particular job execution duration. Hindsight approach makes it possible to select between several different scenarios obtained with the same base scheduling procedure. Based on a conservative backfilling scheduling procedure we study how different resources allocation heuristics affect integral job-flow scheduling characteristics in a dedicated simulation environment. © 2019 IEEE.
