Wireless ad-hoc networks are typically deployed in a decentralized way, without an authority that determines the location of nodes or the time they join the network. Additionally, existing nodes may fail during network lifetime. Consequently, the geographical span (area) of the network is irregular and unknown. However, if known, this information can be used to improve efficiency of many wireless applications;in some existing applicationsthis information is necessary for their operation in the real use cases. For this purpose, we propose a distributed algorithm that determines the geographical network area. It is the first algorithm that simultaneously discovers network border, approximates the network area with a data structure of a constant size, and disseminates this information to all network nodes. Our algorithm uses only the nodes' local information, has a constant computational complexity and is resilient to link unreliability. the algorithm is evaluated by simulation on realistic network topologies of different sizes. the simulations demonstrate that the algorithm has high accuracy in its estimation of the network area, scales well withthe number of nodes, and that it creates a low communication overhead.

the evolution of mobile technologies allows the emerging of ubiquitous systems, able to anticipate user needs and to seamlessly adapt to context changes. these systems present the problem of dynamic adaptation in a highly distributed, heterogeneous and volatile environment, since it may be difficult to collect and process context information from distributed unknown sources. In order to facilitate the development of such systems, this paper extends an existing coordination framework based on tuple spaces, aiming at the management of distributed information. Hence, a decentralized coordination framework was created, offering primitives to developers to create ubiquitous systems able to interact and cooperate in scenarios of total decentralization. this paper reports some experimental results obtained in a testbed of smartphones and tablets which demonstrate the practical feasibility of our approach and pointed out how our solution can grant context data dissemination in ad hoc and infrastructured networks.

Large-scale interactive applications and realtime data-processing are facing problems with traditional disk-based storage solutions. Because of the often irregular access patterns they must keep almost all data in RAM caches, which need to be manually synchronized with secondary storage and need a lot of time to be re-loaded in case of power outages. In this paper we propose a novel key-value storage keeping all data always in RAM by aggregating resources of potentially many nodes in a data center. We aim at supporting management of billions of small data objects (16-64 byte) like for example needed for storing graphs. A scalable low-overhead meta-data management is realized using a novel range-based ID approach combined with a super-overlay network. Furthermore, we provide persistence by a novel SSD-aware logging approach allowing to recover failed nodes very fast.

Modern GPGPUs implement on-chip shared cache to better exploit the data reuse of various general purpose applications. Given the massive amount of concurrent threads in a GPGPU, striking the balance between Data Locality and Load Balance has become a critical design concern. To achieve the best performance, the trade-off between these two factors needs to be performed concurrently. this paper proposes a dynamic thread scheduler which co-optimizes boththe data locality and load balance on a GPGPU. the proposed approach is evaluated using three applications with various input datasets. the results show that the proposed approach reduces the overall execution cycles by up to 16% when compared with other approaches concerning only one objective.

the high-density blade server provides an attractive solution for the rapid increasing demand on computing. the degree of parallelism inside a blade enclosure nowadays has reach up to hundreds of cores. In such parallelism, it is necessary to accelerate communications inside a blade enclosure. However, commercial products seldom set foot in the optimization based on hardware. A hyper-node controller is proposed to provide a low overhead and high performance interconnection based on PCIe, which supports global address space, user-level communication, and efficient communication primitives. Furthermore, the efficient sharing of I/O resource is another goal of this design. the prototype of the hyper-node controller is implemented in FPGA. the testing results show the lowest latency is only 1.242us and the highest bandwidth is 3.19GB/s, which is almost 99.7% of the theoretic peak bandwidth.
