Twitter is a breed of social networks that are playing a buoyant role in today's world communication. this paper is an attempt to apply knowledge discovery process on Twitter dataset comprising hashtags along with the visual analytic techniques whose purpose is to provide information to the people in such a way so that they understand concealed knowledge in the data effortlessly and meritoriously. We further analyze tweet text and metadata associated with each tweet for identification of useful patterns like "who talks to whom" and "how much". Our research reveals the impact of visualization and hierarchical clustering technique in analyzing similar groups of users. Further we investigate different social network measures that unveil the influence of users in the particular hashtags.

Linking the physical world to the Internet, also known as the Internet of things, has increased available information and services in everyday life and in the Enterprise world. In Enterprise IT an increasing number of communication is done between IT backend systems and small IoT devices, for example sensor networks or RFID readers. this introduces some challenges in terms of complexity and integration. We are working on the integration of IoT devices into Enterprise IT by leveraging SOA techniques and Semantic Web technologies. We present a SOA based integration platform for connecting WSNs and large enterprise business processes. For ensuring interoperability our platform is based on Linked Services. these are thoroughly described, machine-readable, machine-reasonable service descriptions.

Object recognition and categorization are two important key features of computer vision. Accuracy aspects represent research challenge fo r both object recognition and categorization techniques. High performance computing (HPC) technologies usually manage the increasing time and complexity of computations. In this paper, a new approach that use 3D spin-images for 3D object categorization is introduced. the main contribution of our approach i s that it employs the MPI techniques in a unique way to extract spin-images. the technique proposed utilizes the independence between spin-images generated at each point. Time estimation of our technique ha ve shown dramatic decrease of the categorization time proportional to number of workers used.

In last years, wireless networking is becoming very popular because it is able to satisfy user requests in terms of Quality of Service (QoS); when mobility is present, perhaps, hand-over issues are relevant when hosts change coverage areas during their active sessions. It is very important to mitigate mobility effects, employing an appropriate bandwidth management policy. In our work, we propose two integrated schemes: the first one is based on Markov theory and is aimed at the prediction of mobile hosts movements (in terms of future cells), while the second one is based on statistical theory and is aimed at the minimization of the wasted bandwidth used for passive reservations. So, the proposed Pattern Prediction and Passive Bandwidth Management Algorithm (3P-BMA) is the result of the integration of the Markov predictor and the statistical bandwidth management scheme. 3P-BMA is completely independent on the considered technology, mobility model and vehicular environment. We do not care if the coverage is made by UMTS or WLAN technologies, if hosts are pedestrians or mobile users, etc. Some campaigns of simulation have been led-out in order to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed idea in terms of prediction accuracy, Call Dropping/Blocking probabilities and system utilization.

Document similarity identification is one of the most significant problems of knowledge discovery and information retrieval. One way to perform these similarity measures is to analyze a citation graph of research papers. If we have document citation information in the form of RDF graph, how we may identify the document similarity measures by using social network analysis techniques? We have answered this question by applying semantic social network analysis techniques on RDF citation graphs of research papers to identify the pair wise similarity between these papers. For performing social network analysis we have used classes of centrality degree and closeness centrality from SemSNA ontology. Concept of minimum cut/maximum flow from graph theory is used for quantification of similarity measure. In our experiment we have used Citeseer data set; it is found that our results are promising as compared to manual similarity measures by human for a subset of this data set. Our results are also encouragingly comparable to other citation link analysis techniques as well as content based similarity measures; this is the reason that we have focused on RDF citation based similarity measure. In future we are looking forward to use some citation ontology (such as CITO) to improve RDF graph construction for our proposed similarity measure technique.

Append-/Log-based Storage Managers (LbSM) for database systems represent a good match for the characteristics and behaviour of Flash technology. LbSM alleviate random writes reducing the impact of Flash read/write asymmetry, increasing endurance and performance. A recently proposed combination of Multi-Versioning database approaches and LbSM called SIAS [9] offers further benefits: it substantially lowers the write rate due to tuple version append granularity and therefore improves the performance. In SIAS a page contains versions of tuples of the same table. Once appended such a page is immutable. the only allowable operations are reads (lookups, scans, version visibility checks) in tuple version granularity. Optimising for them offers an essential performance increase. In the present work-in-progress paper we propose two types of read optimisations: Multi-Version Index and Ordered Log Storage. Benefits of Ordered Log Storage: (i) Read efficiency due to the use of parallel read streams;(ii) Write efficiency since larger amounts of data are appended sequentially;(iii) fast garbage collection: read multiple sorted runs, filter dead tuples and write one single, large (combined) sorted run. (iv) possible cache-efficiency optimisations (for large scans) Benefits of Multi-Version Indexing: (i) index only visibility checks;(ii) postponing of index reorganisations;(iii) no invalid tuple bits in the index (in-place updates);(iv) pre-filtering of invisible tuple versions;(v) facilitate easy identification of tuple versions to be garbage collected. Benefits of the combination of both approaches: (i) Index and ordered access;(ii) Facilitate range searches in sorted runs;(iii) on the fly garbage collection (checking of one bit). © 2013 ACM.

Variance-based sensitivity analysis approach has been proposed for studying of input parameters' error contribution into the output results of a large-scale air pollution model, the Danish Eulerian Model, in its unified software implementation, called UNI-DEM. A three-stage sensitivity analysis algorithm, based on analysis of variances technique (ANOVA) for calculating Sobol global sensitivity indices and computationally efficient Monte Carlo integration techniques, has recently been developed and successfully used for sensitivity analysis study of UNI-DEM with respect to several chemical reaction rate coefficients. As a first stage it is necessary to carry out a set of computationally expensive numerical experiments and to extract the necessary multidimensional sets of sensitivity analysis data. A specially adapted for that purpose version of the model, called SA-DEM, was created, implemented and run on an IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer, the most powerful parallel machine in Bulgaria. Its capabilities have been extended to be able to perturb the 4 different input data sets with anthropogenic emissions by regularly modified perturbation coefficients. this is a complicated and challenging computational problem even for such a powerful supercomputer like IBM BlueGene/P. Its efficient numerical solution required optimization of the parallelization strategy and improvements in the memory management. Performance results of some numerical experiments on the IBM BlueGene/P machine will be presented and analyzed. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

We have developed a wearable system for mobile distributed collaboration called HandsInAir using emerging wireless and mobile technologies. this system was developed to support real world scenarios in which a remote mobile helper guides a local mobile worker in the completion of a physical task. HandsInAir consists of a helper unit and a worker unit. Both units are equipped with wearable devices having the same hardware configuration, but running different pieces of software to support the distinct roles of the collaborators (helper and worker). the two sides are connected via a wireless network and the collaboration partners can communicate with each other via audio and visual links. In this paper we describe the technical implementation of the system and present a preliminary evaluation of it. the paper concludes with a brief discussion of possible future work for further improvements and new developments.

Workflows have been successfully applied to express the decomposition of complex scientific applications. However the existing tools still lack adequate support to important aspects namely, decoupling the enactment engine from tasks specification, decentralizing the control of workflow activities allowing their tasks to run in distributed infrastructures, and supporting dynamic workflow reconfigurations. We present the AWARD (Autonomic Workflow Activities Reconfigurable and Dynamic) model of computation, based on Process Networks, where the workflow activities (AWA) are autonomic processes with independent control that can run in parallel on distributed infrastructures. Each AWA executes a task developed as a Java class with a generic interface allowing end-users to code their applications without low-level details. the data-driven coordination of AWA interactions is based on a shared tuple space that also enables dynamic workflow reconfiguration. For evaluation we describe experimental results of AWARD workflow executions in several application scenarios, mapped to the Amazon (Elastic computing EC2) Cloud.

Finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is a robust and accurate algorithm which is widely used in computational electromagnetic field and the simulation of optical phenomenon. In this paper, parallel FDTD based on overlapped domain decomposition is used to simulate the band gap of photonic crystals and the quantum efficiency of thin-film solar cells. the light-trapping effect is also analyzed by parallel FDTD, it's very important to improve light absorption. Numerical result demonstrates that the accuracy and the speedup of parallel FDTD are very high for large scale problem.
