the common methods for dealing with classification problems include data-driven models and knowledge-driven models. Recently, some methods were proposed to combine the data-driven model with the knowledge-driven model to construct a hybrid model, which improves the classification performance by complementing each other. However, most of the existing methods just assume that the expert knowledge is known in advance, and do not indicate how to obtain it. To this end, this paper proposes a way to obtain knowledge from experts represented by rules through active learning. then, a hybrid rule-based classification model is developed by integrating the knowledge-driven rule base and the rule base learned from the training data using genetic algorithm. Experiments based on real datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed classification model.

Clinical guidelines are evidence-based recommendations developed to assist practitioners in their decisions on appropriate care for patients with specific clinical circumstances. they provide succinct instructions such as what drugs should be given or taken for a particular condition, how long such treatment should be given, what tests should be conducted, or other situational clinical circumstances for certain diseases. However, as they are described in natural language, they are prone to problems such as variability and ambiguity. In this paper, we propose an approach to automatically infer the main components in clinical guideline sentences. Knowing the key concepts in the sentences, we can then feed them to model checkers to validate their correctness. We adapt semantic role labelling approach to mark the key entities in our problem domain. We also implement the technique used for Named-Entity Recognition (NER) task and compare the results. the aim of our work is to build a reasoning framework that combines the information gained from real patient data and clinical practice, with clinical guidelines to give more suitable personalised recommendations for treating patients. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Cancer pathway is the name given to a patient’s journey from initial suspicion of cancer through to a confirmed diagnosis and, if applicable, the definition of a treatment plan. Typically, a cancer patient will undergo a series of procedures, which we designate as events, during their cancer care. the initial stage of the pathway, from suspected diagnosis to confirmed diagnosis and start of a treatment is called cancer waiting time (CWT). this paper focuses on the modelling and analysis of the CWT. Health boards are under pressure to ensure that the duration of CWT satisfies predefined targets. In this paper, we first create the visual representation of the pathway obtained from real patient data at a given health board, and then compare it with the standardised pathway considered by the board to find and flag a deviation in the execution of the cancer pathway. Next, we devise a discrete event simulation model for the cancer waiting time pathway. the input data is obtained from historical records of patients. the outcomes from this analysis highlight the pathway bottlenecks and transition times which may be used to reveal potential improvements for CWT in the future. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Radiation treatment planning is a complex process with multiple, dependent steps involving an interdisciplinary patient care team. We have previously implemented an interactive, web-based dashboard, which requires a standardised radiation treatment planning workflow and provides real-time monitoring and visualization of the workflow. We present this framework and the results of performance measures characterising the standardised workflow in an effort to optimize clinical efficiency and patient safety. Quantitative representations of longitudinal progression of carepath activities were computed from staff-reported timestamps queried from the EMR. Performance measures evaluated included staff compliance in completing assigned tasks, timeliness in task completion, and the time to complete different tasks. the framework developed allows for informed, data-driven decisions regarding clinical workflow management and the impact of changes on existing workflow as we seek to optimize clinical efficiency and safety, and incorporate new interventions into clinical practice. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Philanthropic hospitals in Brazil are in great part funded by the government and are daily accessed by a large portion of the population. As the Brazilian economy faces deep cuts in healthcare, managers are adjusting budgets and focusing on less expensive alternatives such as process improvements. Hospitals are even more impacted by the recent COVID-19 pandemic with widespread disruption on operational processes forcing them to stretch resources. thus, it brings an opportunity to evaluate the actual performance of these settings under different scenarios where analysts may address bottlenecks and the impact on resources. Our focus is to quantify the capacity of an emergency department to support patient demand with limited resources in pre and post-pandemic scenarios. We use a 12-month longitudinal dataset consisting of pre-pandemic emergency occurrences and assigned resources. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Tourism is counted as one of the most sensitive sectors to crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. By the first quarter of 2020, it brought the foreign visitors' travels to a sudden and unexpected halt. this has negatively affected the tourism sector. Due to the perishable nature of the tourism industry products, many researchers are calling for urgent development and implementation of a rescue plan that will help in predicting the future number of foreign visitors. In this paper, we proposed an approach to modeling and forecasting a tourism time-series data that have both trend and seasonality. this approach is a combination of the Fourier series and artificial neural network methods to capture the seasonality and trend components in data. We applied this method to the monthly foreign visitors to Turkey dataset. We studied the data for the periods before, and during the COVID-19 pandemic. To account for uncertainties in the model prediction during the COVID-19 pandemic, we employed the Monte Carlo simulation method. We run 100 Monte Carlo simulations within +/- 2 sigma from the model curve. the mean of these 100 Monte Carlo simulation paths is computed and used for presenting the Monte Carlo forecast result values of the data. To test the feasibility of this approach, we compared the model predictions with some other existing models in the literature. In each case, the model has demonstrated a decent prediction and outperformed the benchmarked models. the proposed model produces a statistically good fit and acceptable result that can be used to forecast other tourism-related attributes.

the COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed a dramatic change in medical education paradigm, mediating a wider use of technology and adoption of open education models. In this paper, we analyze the challenges encountered along the way from the production of educational 360-degree video scenarios to their actual use in medical teaching. Evaluation was two-fold: (a) medical students' perception and attitude towards this technology and its actual effectiveness in teaching;(b) feed-back from the teachers and medical staff. the feed-back and concrete debriefing refer to the required one-semester course on emergency medicine taught during the autumn of 2020, when such videos were employed as a substitute for practical classes.

Much time in process mining projects is spent on finding and understanding data sources and extracting the event data needed. As a result, only a fraction of time is spent actually applying techniques to discover, control and predict the business process. Moreover, current process mining techniques assume a single case notion. However, in real-life processes often different case notions are intertwined. For example, events of the same order handling process may refer to customers, orders, order lines, deliveries, and payments. therefore, we propose to use Multiple Viewpoint (MVP) models that relate events through objects and that relate activities through classes. the required event data are much closer to existing relational databases. MVP models provide a holistic view on the process, but also allow for the extraction of classical event logs using different viewpoints. this way existing process mining techniques can be used for each viewpoint without the need for new data extractions and transformations. We provide a toolchain allowing for the discovery of MVP models (annotated with performance and frequency information) from relational databases. Moreover, we demonstrate that classical process mining techniques can be applied to any selected viewpoint. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2020.

During the last two decades, many nonlinear analysis procedures have been proposed for earthquake response determination of the structures. the nonlinear response history analysis (NRHA) is accepted as the most accurate source of information for nonlinear seismic response, but nonlinear static procedures (NSP) may also provide reasonable estimates of seismic demand and inelastic behavior. However, all proposed NSPs have limitations due to the inherent approximations and simplifications including load pattern and single mode considerations. On August 17, 1999, Turkey experienced an un-planned large scale testing of buildings during the Marmara Earthquake. It would appear that, using building response observations from this earthquake and performing "back calculations" for selected structures, it might be possible to assess the "global" performance of performance assessment procedures that have been developed. the rhetorical question, "had we known one day in advance that this earthquake would occur, could we have estimated their performance globally using the widely used NSPs?" deserves an informed answer. Moderately and heavily damaged buildings have been sampled from Adapazari / Sakarya and their models built for this purpose. For this study, two moderately and two heavily damaged buildings have been selected from the building pool and a number of analysis procedures have been applied to them. For the performance assessment of buildings, the following analysis procedures have been used: NSPs of ATC-40, FEMA-356, FEMA-440, Modified Modal Pushover Analysis (MMPA), and NRHA. the study has concentrated on NSPs. these are compared with the global building performance of selected buildings. Because global damage states for buildings are known, comparing them with predictions from analyses using NSPs is done. this way, the NSP Methods are evaluated and checked whether they have estimated the global damages suitably. the study has been concluded as;there is no safety for t
