Techno-Economic and Environmental Evaluations of Decarbonized Fossil-Intensive Industrial Processes by Reactive Absorption & Adsorption CO2 Capture Systems

Decarbonization of energy-intensive systems (e.g., heat and power generation, iron, and steel production, petrochemical processes, cement production, etc.) is an important task for the development of a low carbon economy. In this respect, carbon capture technologies will play an important role in the decarbonization of fossil-based industrial processes. The most significant techno-economic and environmental performance indicators of various fossil-based industrial applications decarbonized by two reactive gas-liquid (chemical scrubbing) and gas-solid CO2 capture systems are calculated, compared, and discussed in the present work. As decarbonization technologies, the gas-liquid chemical absorption and more innovative calcium looping systems were employed. The integrated assessment uses various elements, e.g., conceptual design of decarbonized plants, computer-aided tools for process design and integration, evaluation of main plant performance indexes based on industrial and simulation results, etc. The overall decarbonization rate for various assessed applications (e.g., power generation, steel, and cement production, chemicals) was set to 90% in line with the current state of the art in the field. Similar non-carbon capture plants are also assessed to quantify the various penalties imposed by decarbonization (e.g., increasing energy consumption, reducing efficiency, economic impact, etc.). The integrated evaluations exhibit that the integration of decarbonization technologies (especially chemical looping systems) into key energy-intensive industrial processes have significant advantages for cutting the carbon footprint (60-90% specific CO2 emission reduction), improving the energy conversion yields and reducing CO2 capture penalties.

Obviously, the disappointments found in the emergency clinics the executives have typically identified with the absence of data and inadequate assets the board. The utilization of Deep Q Network (DDQN) can add to defeat these restrictions to distinguish applicable information on patient's administration and giving significant data to administrators to help their choices. All through this investigation were actuated DDQN models competent to make expectations in a real-time hospital environment and utilizing real clinical data. Considering this the proposed model is developed using the OpenAI Gym system, and show its utilization on a basic clinical bed occupancy model. Also, deep RL Agents utilizing PyTorch, and the Hospital simulation is developed using SimPy. Research work exhibit a model utilizing a Double Deep Q Network as the Deep Reinforcement Learning Agent (DL Agent).

Reynolds-Stress Budgets in an Impinging Shock-Wave/Boundary-Layer Interaction

Wall-resolved large-eddy simulations of an impinging shock-wave/boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) are performed to investigate the evolution of Reynolds stresses. After an assessment of accuracy by comparison with experimental data, mechanisms in the Reynolds-stress transport equation, including production, diffusion, strain, and dissipation are examined. In the upstream boundary layer, these quantities are validated with high confidence against published results from the literature. Concerning the SBLI region, all Reynolds stresses exhibit significant growth, consistent with the enhancement of turbulence in adverse pressure gradients. Of particular note is the pressure strain term, which plays a key role in energy redistribution from rho u '' u '' over bar to rho v '' v '' over bar and rho w '' w '' over bar . The pressure diffusion term, commonly assumed to be negligible or combined with turbulent diffusion in Reynolds-stress models, becomes larger than the production and pressure strain terms in the region where the impinging shock crosses the shear layer above the separation bubble. Power spectra of u ' in this region show links to shear layer flapping and Kelvin-Helmholtz-type instability. In the vicinity of the growth in pressure diffusion, turbulent mass flux also exhibits amplification. Critically, in the rho u '' v '' over bar budget, pressure diffusion and turbulent mass flux behavior for y+>10 suggests that there may be a benefit in considering the terms individually in modeling efforts.

Optimization of vehicle traffic is one of the most important problems of modern civilization. A satisfactory solution of this problem has not yet been achieved. A successful solution can only be obtained using the latest advances in navigation, communication, control and computer technologies. The article offers new methods for modeling, simulation and optimizing control systems of an integrated intelligent transport system by regulating the parameters of the transport network and directing the movement of individual vehicles. Application of Exactly Linearized Error Transport Equations to Sonic Boom Prediction Workshop

The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) prediction workshops sponsored by the aiaa have created invaluable opportunities to discuss the predictive capabilities of CFD in areas in which it has struggled, for example, sonic boom prediction. While there are many factors that contribute to disagreement between simulated and experimental results, such as modeling or discretization errors, quantifying the errors contained in a simulation is important for those who make decisions based on the computational results. The linearized error transport equations (ETE) combined with a truncation error estimate is a method to quantify one source of error. The ETE are implemented with a complex-step method to provide an exact linearization with minimal source code modifications to CFD and multidisciplinary analysis methods including atmospheric propagation of sonic boom signatures. Uniformly refined grids from the 2nd aiaa Sonic Boom Prediction Workshop demonstrate the utility of the linearized ETE for multidisciplinary analysis, capturing the general trends of the discretization error when flow features are resolved while also demonstrating issues related to error prediction near strong shocks or when under-resolved flow features are present.

This paper focuses on improving the grid convergence properties of large-eddy simulations. To isolate the impact of numerical filtering and the associated errors inherently present in implicitly filtered large-eddy simulation approaches, the authors have developed a novel explicit filtering approach suitable for any mesh topology and filter kernel. simulations of a bluff-body stabilized, premixed flame configuration on a sequence of meshes are used to demonstrate this methodology. Grid convergence assessment is also performed for another approach, wherein the filter width at each computational cell is explicitly set. Comparisons show that solutions from prescribed-width implicitly filtered large-eddy simulation and explicitly filtered large-eddy simulation approaches exhibit good convergence for the mean quantities. The explicitly filtered large-eddy simulation results show clear convergence trends in the rms quantities, unlike the prescribed-width implicitly filtered large-eddy simulation approach and previously reported implicitly filtered large-eddy simulation results. While discrepancies exist in the level of agreement between the grid converged rms solutions with measured data, this could now be attributed to the errors in the physical models and boundary conditions. Importantly, the proposed explicitly filtered large-eddy simulation approach only reduces the computational efficiency by approximately 30% on the fine grid simulation, relative to the implicitly filtered large-eddy simulation approach.

Integrated Surface-Airspace Model of Airport Departures

The significant growth in air traffic over the past few decades has led to increased congestion at major airports. Departure metering strategies to mitigate congestion require good models of operations at the airport, as well as in the surrounding terminal airspace. Although runways have traditionally been considered the sole capacity bottleneck in the air transportation system, large airports can exhibit multiple points of congestion, both on the surface and in the terminal area. This paper presents an integrated surface-airspace model of aircraft departure operations from pushback to the final departure fix, when the flight leaves the terminal area. The airport surface is represented as a queuing network to capture congestion at multiple locations, such as ramp, taxiways, and runways. The terminal departure airspace is modeled considering various factors, such as runway configurations, standard departure procedures, weather, and en route traffic. The proposed modeling approach is illustrated for Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the test bed for NASA's Airspace Technology Demonstration 2 program. The model is evaluated on its ability to accurately predict various transit times, both on the surface and in the terminal area.
