The research of solar cells has gone through three generations, silicon solar cells, thin film solar cells and perovskite solar cells. There are a variety of characterization methods used to analyze the factors that affect the performance of solar cells. Thus far, there are some deficiencies in the research of algorithms of the characterization methods themselves. Three types of data: current density-voltage (J-V) curves, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum and absorption spectrum are the most essential characterization methods. Here, the processing algorithms of these three kinds of characterization data are studied, intend to help researchers to solve the practical problems more efficiently, and improve the accuracy of experimental results. In this paper, the process of processing algorithm are summarized in the way of flow chart, and combined with the example to show in turn. © 2023 SPIE.

A Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) biosensor with good biocompatibility promises label-free, anti-electromagnetic interference, and non-destructive detection of stress monitoring, it holds the potential to rapidly identify the stress changes in microfluidics systems. Based on signal processing, the correlation between wavelength shift in FBG and flowrate is discussed, an alternative to manual processing of wavelength offset calculation is analyzed, and the automatic selection of FBG wavelength change under high noise conditions is realized. In addition, we propose some technologies of intelligent processing algorithms such as machine learning (BP—back propagation neural network) and moving average. Finally, the feasibility and stability of the signal processing method are verified by experimental validation and multiple data sets testing. This study provides a promising intelligent information processing strategy for rapid and accurate stress sensing of microfluidics systems. © 2023 SPIE.

Lensless imaging provides opportunities to design imaging systems free from the constraints imposed by traditional camera architectures. Due to advances in imaging hardware, fabrication techniques, and new algorithms, researchers have recently developed lensless imaging systems that are extremely compact and lightweight or able to image higher-dimensional quantities. Here we review these recent advances and describe the design principles and their effects that one should consider when developing and using lensless imaging systems. Coherent optical communication system (COCS) can achieve high-speed and long-distance transmission, but their structure is complex and costly. In coherent optical communication, problems such as link damage caused by the transmission medium and noise in transmission affect the transmission of data information. At the same time, the recovery of original data is also the key to optical communication. In response to these problems, this paper studies the carrier phase recovery in COCS. The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of existing phase recovery algorithms (PRA) and proposes a PRA based on the minimum first-order distance (MFOD). The algorithm first uses a blind phase search algorithm to find a rough estimate interval of the phase noise, and then uses MFOD to quickly find the phase noise and reduce the complexity of the algorithm. The simulation results show that the line width tolerance of the PRA based on the MFOD and the blind phase search algorithm are basically the same, but the complexity is reduced by 68% compared with the blind phase search algorithm. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The accurate positioning of the specular point of the spaceborne global navigation satellite system reflectometry (GNSS-R) receiver is a key step in using GNSS-R technology for geophysical parameter retrieval. As GNSS-R applications expand across diverse environments ranging from land and oceans to glaciers, traditional geometric positioning accuracy is no longer sufficient to meet the demands of these varied applications. Specifically, positioning algorithms must not only facilitate real-time spaceborne processing but also adapt to fluctuating surface conditions, all while sustaining high levels of accuracy and efficiency. In response to these demands, we propose a positioning algorithm tailored for spaceborne GNSS-R specular points across various surface environments. The proposed algorithm integrates actual surface height data by leveraging surface models for localized terrain fitting. It employs a regional grid traversal method, guided by geographic positioning criteria, to accurately search for specular points that satisfy specific conditions. Considering the impact of initial position accuracy on traversal speed, we developed an ellipsoidal reflection geometric model based on the unique properties of the ellipsoid. This model facilitates the swift, non-iterative determination of a high-precision initial position for specular points. Experimental data indicate that our proposed approach reduces the Euclidean distance error of the initial position by ~87.5% and enhances grid traversal efficiency by a factor of more than eight times. To verify the robustness of the proposed method, this paper conducted multiple experiments in both ocean and land scenarios, including case studies in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau region. Spatial resolution is a critical measure of the imaging performance of ultrasound imaging systems and is determined by various system factors. So far, no comprehensive studies have been reported to elucidate the impact of system factors on spatial resolution, which is generally defined as the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the point spread function (PSF). This work aims to model the PSF of ultrasound imaging systems based on a linear transducer array and a coherent plane-wave compounding (CPWC) method and study how pulse-echo sequences, transducer parameters, and beamforming algorithms impact PSF. The Verasonics simulator and UltraSound ToolBox are used in numerical simulations for ultrasound signal generation and image reconstruction, respectively. Experiments are conducted to verify simulation results. Numerical and experimental results show that the value of axial resolution is negatively correlated with the center frequency of the ultrasonic transducer;the value of lateral resolution is positively correlated with the number of transmitted plane waves of the CPWC method and the element width of the ultrasonic transducer and is negatively correlated with the maximum steering angle of the CPWC method and the aperture size and center frequency of the ultrasonic transducer. Different beamforming algorithms show varying effects on spatial resolution and image quality. This work is expected to help predict and interpret the quality of ultrasound images produced by practical ultrasound imaging systems and is beneficial for the design and development of ultrasonic transducers, pulse-echo sequences, and beamforming algorithms for enhanced spatial resolution. © 2024 SPIE.

The traditional movie recommendation system has many problems in using common algorithm, such as relying on users' historical preference data, "cold start" problems for new movies and new us-ers, and poor recommendations for users with special tastes. Given the above situation, the system framework is built based on the MoviesLens dataset of GroupLens, using Spark, Flume, Kafka, and other big data technologies, and the SVD++ algorithm and Bias-SVD algorithm are used to improve the SVD algorithm and Funk-SVD algorithm in the traditional latent factor model, so as to improve the latent factor model. The recommendation effects and the corresponding RMSE and MAE values of the improved hidden semantic model on the dataset are compared, and the appropriate algorithms are se-lected to optimize the model of collaborative filtering algorithm based on nearest neighbors. By quantifying indicators such as movie genre, release time, region, recent hotness ranking, long-term hotness ranking, number of resources, and user ratings, data analysis is performed using visual charting techniques to find the movie resources that best match the users, and finally, the generated TopN list and rating of recommendation results are presented to users in offline and real-time, completing the construction of the movie recommendation system. The experimental results show that the selection of suitable algorithms applied to the movie recommendation system has greatly improved the recommendation effect compared with the traditional method, the accuracy rate has also been greatly improved, and the system is more in line with the user's personalized requirements. © 2024 SPIE.

Extracting laboratory test information from paper-based reports

BackgroundIn the healthcare domain today, despite the substantial adoption of electronic health information systems, a significant proportion of medical reports still exist in paper-based formats. As a result, there is a significant demand for the digitization of information from these paper-based reports. However, the digitization of paper-based laboratory reports into a structured data format can be challenging due to their non-standard layouts, which includes various data types such as text, numeric values, reference ranges, and units. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a highly scalable and lightweight technique that can effectively identify and extract information from laboratory test reports and convert them into a structured data format for downstream *** developed an end-to-end Natural Language processing (NLP)-based pipeline for extracting information from paper-based laboratory test reports. Our pipeline consists of two main modules: an optical character recognition (OCR) module and an information extraction (IE) module. The OCR module is applied to locate and identify text from scanned laboratory test reports using state-of-the-art OCR algorithms. The IE module is then used to extract meaningful information from the OCR results to form digitalized tables of the test reports. The IE module consists of five sub-modules, which are time detection, headline position, line normalization, Named Entity Recognition (NER) with a Conditional Random Fields (CRF)-based method, and step detection for multi-column. Finally, we evaluated the performance of the proposed pipeline on 153 laboratory test reports collected from Peking University First Hospital (PKU1).ResultsIn the OCR module, we evaluate the accuracy of text detection and recognition results at three different levels and achieved an averaged accuracy of 0.93. In the IE module, we extracted four laboratory test entities, including test item name, test result, test unit, and reference value range.

The number of automobiles has expanded dramatically during the last few decades. As a result, tracking them became extremely difficult. In the event of a traffic ticket or excessive speeding, identifying the automobile owner has become nearly impossible. Image processing was used to identify car license plates to make this practicable. That license plates will be retrieved from collected photographs utilizing perception and computer vision algorithms, and then we will utilize OCR information to recognize the license number. OCR stands for optical character recognition. We employ cameras to record high-speed photos of number plates for image recognition, and image processing algorithms to identify and validate the sequence of characters, as well as to convert the number plate image to text. We now utilize number plate recognition (NPR) to detect license plates. NPR is a computer vision technique that enables equipment to scan license plates on automobiles swiftly and automatically without the need for human intervention. Image processing methods include Hidden Markov models, linear filtering, neural networks, and others. For the development of such smart systems based on the computer vision as, for example, unmanned aerial vehicles, driverless cars, etc. efficient image processing algorithms are required. These algorithms should provide the possibility to process images in a video stream, perform segmentation, select objects and define informative signatures for further recognition. Objects in optical images usually differ in color, shape, may have shadows, and they stand out against the non-stationary background of the terrain;that is why the HSV color model is often used for their selection. To select objects against the background of the terrain it is necessary to define their signatures and train the recognition system. However the variety of objects and the dependence of their color characteristics on changes in illumination pose a considerable problem. The paper proposes an alternative approach - to train the system to recognize the background, and the fragments of the image that are not recognized as the background should be classified as objects. For real-time estimation of the color parameters of the background it is proposed to convert the traditional HSV model into a one-dimensional signature to speed up calculations during processing. processing of the images received from an unmanned aerial vehicle by the proposed method makes it possible to select almost all objects of different colors, shapes and sizes against a heterogeneous background and to define their contours for further recognition. © 2023 IEEE.
