all data are provided by Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS), Beijing, China, a main observation station that is designed to predicate solar activities and space environment in China. With the more and more complicated Internet environment, many security issues arise, such as viruses, attacks to potential security weakness in the network protocol, improperly using operation systems within a network etc., we have to design a more secure and reliable network architecture in order to implement remote functionalities to meet the demands of the data users: automatic data transmission, remote observation, control and maintenance of various systems. In this article, the author presents a real case discussing various aspects while implementing it, that includes a new network topology changed from an original architecture to a more secure one, the selections of the secure products, secure strategies deployment, the problems encountered during operation and the solutions in use at HSOS. The article also gives some inputs from the author's experiences of the network security. The case is implemented in the entire observing station, which includes multiple observing systems, at HSOS.

The OCC-CDMA/OS for 4G Wireless

This paper starts with a review of 2G-3G CDMA based wireless systems from a network operation perspective. In particular, the challenges faced by current CDMA technologies will be addressed with the focus on their possible applications in 4G wireless networks. We will show that many advanced operational requirements in future 4G networks, such as high-speed burst traffic, cross-layer network design, seamless integration of different networks with and without infrastructure, will make all current CDMA technologies unsuitable due to their rigid and voice-centric physical layer architecture. To respond to the call for CDMA innovation, a novel OCC-CDMA/OS physical layer architecture is proposed in this paper for its possible applications in futuristic wireless networks. One of the most important features of OCC-CDMA/OS physical layer architecture is its unique elasticity, which facilitates implementation of a fully-adaptive CDMA transceiver to work harmonically with various advanced upper-layer designs in 4G networks. Many other technical issues on CDMA based 4G networks will also be discussed. It is concluded that OCC-CDMA/OS has a great potential for its applications in future 4G wireless networks.

Power systems have been dramatically changing with cutting edge information technologies. The new power system infrastructure called Smart Grid has evolved and has been studied by many institutes and companies. The Smart Grid is bound up with customer side activities such as Distributed Generators (DGs). Changes in the power system structure, changes in requirements and the necessity to have easy access to accurate data have led to the need for communication systems. Due to these changes, communication systems with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) in power companies expose the safety-critical power companies’ network to the multitude of security problems in communication networks. Moreover, obsolescent control systems for power systems are evolving into intelligent systems and connecting with smart devices to give intelligence to the power systems. As networks of the control system are growing, vulnerability is also increasing. The communication network of distribution areas in the power system connects closely to vulnerable environments. Many cyber attacks have been founded in the power system, and they could be more critical as the power system becomes more intelligent. In this dissertation, an independent and hierarchical communication network architecture for Smart Grid is designed by information hiding and suppressing data exchange. The function of self-healing and resist attack will be easily implemented by this proposed network. First of all, communication bandwidth and topology is considered corresponding to the advent of DGs. Availability is also considered when it comes to design a communication network for power systems because power systems should provide seamless service. New network architecture of optical network using one core is also proposed for the distribution area in power systems to increase reliability. Additionally, a mitigation operation algorithm using device-level intelligence is suggested if servers are compromised by cyber-attacks.

Toward Secure Software Defined Vehicular networks: Taxonomy, Requirements, and Open issues

The emerging software defined vehicular networking (SDVN) paradigm promises to dramatically simplify network management and enable innovation through network programmability. Despite noticeable advances of SDNs in wired networks, it is also becoming an indispensable component that potentially provides flexible and well managed next-generation wireless networks, gaining massive attention from both industry and academia. In spite of all the hype surrounding emerging SDVNs, exploiting its full potential is demanding, and security is still the key concern and an equally arresting challenge. On the contrary, the complete transformation of the network into an SDN structure is still questionable, and the security and dependability of SDNs have largely been neglected topics. Moreover, the logical centralization of network intelligence and the tremendously evolving landscape of digital threats and cyber attacks that predominantly target emerging SDVNs will have even more devastating effects than they are in simple networks. Besides, the deployment of the SDVNs' novel entities and several architectural components drive new security threats and vulnerabilities. Since the SDVNs architectural layers and their corresponding APIs are heavily dependent on each other, this article aims to present a systematic top-down approach to tackle the potential security vulnerabilities, attacks, and challenges pertaining to each layer. The article contributes by presenting the security implications of the emerging SDVNs to devise comprehensive thematic core layered taxonomies together with external communication APIs. Moreover, we also describe the potential requirements and key enablers toward secure SDVNs. Finally, a plethora of open security research issues are presented that may be deemed appropriate for young researchers and professionals around the globe to tackle in anticipation of secure SDVNs.

A Multi-Synchronous Bi-Directional NoC (MBiNoC) architecture with dynamic self-reconfigurable channel for the GALS infrastructure

To enhance the performance of on-chip communications of Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous systems (GALS), a dynamic reconfigurable multi-synchronous router architecture is proposed to increase network on chip (NoC) efficiency by changing the path of the communication link in the runtime traffic situation. In order to address GALS issues and bandwidth requirements, the proposed multi-synchronous bidirectional NoC's router is developed and it guarantees higher packet consumption rate, better bandwidth utilization with lower packet delivery latency. all the input/output ports of the proposed router behave as a bi-directional ports and communicate through a novel multi-synchronous first-in first-out (FIFO) buffer. The bidirectional port is controlled by a dynamic channel control module which provides a dynamic reconfigurable channel to the router itself and associated sub-modules. This proposed multi-synchronous bidirectional router architecture is synthesized using Xilinx ISE 14.7 and FPGA Virtex 6 family device XC6VLX760 is considered as target technology and its performance is evaluated in terms of power, area and delay. Future networks, including Beyond 5G and even 6G, have ambitious requirements where all devices must stay permanently within connection range and receive reliable service with low delay. To achieve this, high-speed links must be established even in remote areas, which is best done through satellite-air-ground integrated networks and their combination of satellites, high altitude platform stations, and ground base stations, which can reach all users, regardless of environment. To increase the speed and transmission rate of these systems, the use of optical communication links, at high frequency bands, has been studied. However, existing works focus on single-link scenarios due to the complexity of a system-level approach. While viable and simple to implement, these approaches are not the most efficient as they underrepresent the impact of interactions between devices. In this work, we will explain the challenges of this optical- based satellite-air-ground integrated network system and propose the use of machine learning and smart networking solutions to address these issues, including theoretical discussions and numerical estimates of the benefits possible with those same solutions. This article thus provides a foundation for global-level control of optical communications in satellite-air-ground integrated networks.

A Consensus-Based Current Sharing Algorithm for Energy Storage systems: An Application to Aeronautic Microgrids

More Electric Aircraft (MEA) and all Electric Aircraft (AEA) require advanced autonomous electric Energy Management systems (EMS) onboard the aircraft. The aircraft electric network can be considered as an islanded microgrid, and as such some approaches typical of the microgrid management can be used onboard the aircraft to design an effective EMS. In particular, distributed control with consensus techniques represents a promising approach due to the advantages in terms of reliability, computational simplicity and low-bandwidth requirement which are of great interest for implementation onboard. A consensus-based solution to the problem of coordinating and balancing several Energy Storage systems (ESSs) coexisting in a generic aircraft architecture is proposed and analyzed. The proposed algorithm selects the current setpoints for each ESS according to their state of charge while ensuring safety of operations. Theoretical results and detailed simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

First Demonstration of a Cross-Layer Enabled network Node

Exploding traffic demands and increasing energy consumptions facing today's networks are driving the designs of next-generation networking technologies. Cross-layer enabled approaches will allow for the packet-level control of the optical layer, to enable dynamic resource allocation and traffic engineering at the physical layer. We demonstrate an intelligent cross-layer enabled network node that can support high-bandwidth, all-optically routed packets, using emerging photonic technologies including optical packet switched fabrics and packet-scale performance monitoring. Using a cross-layer control and management plane, the node can dynamically optimize optical switching based on higher-layer constraints such as quality-of-service and energy consumption, as well as quality-of-transmission metrics such as link integrity and bit-error rates. We demonstrate a first-generation prototype of the cross-layer node, outlining its architecture and major implemented subsystems. The packet-rate physical-layer reconfiguration of the node's fabric is shown using an implemented performance monitor and control plane. The realized node supports 8 x 40-Gb/s wavelength-striped optical packets with pseudorandom data with error-free transmission (bit-error rates less than 10(-12)), in conjunction with the heterogeneous transmission of video traffic using 10-Gigabit Ethernet optical network interface cards based on field-programmable gate arrays.

Fiber optic capabilities can be exploited to greatly simplify communication networks while at the same time greatly expanding their capabilities. With fiber optic technology, it becomes feasible to construct a broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN) that is scaled to cover the United States and can provide an STM-1 (155 Mb/s) interface for each subscriber. This paper describes an all-optical backbone for this national B-ISDN network. A switching technique based on spatial gating and shifting of optical beams is presented. With this technique, signals are directed along optically transparent paths through the backbone switches, and signal characteristics remain unaltered as signals flow through the backbone.

As the high-mobility nature of the vehicles results in frequent leaving and joining the transportation network, real-time data must be collected and shared in a timely manner. In such a transportation network, malicious vehicles can disrupt services and create serious issues, such as deadlocks and accidents. The blockchain is a technology that ensures traceability, consistency, and security in transportation networks. In this study, we integrated edge computing and blockchain technology to improve the optimal utilization of resources, especially in terms of computing, communication, security, and storage. We propose a novel, edge-integrated, blockchain-based vehicle platoon security scheme. For the vehicle platoon, we developed the security architecture, implemented smart contracts for practical network scenarios in network simulator version 3, and integrated them with the simulation urban mobility traffic control interface API. We exhaustively simulated all the scenarios and analyzed the communication performance metrics, such as throughput, delay, and jitter, and the security performance metrics, such as mean squared error, communication, and computational cost. The performance results demonstrate that the developed scheme can solve security-related issues more effectively and efficiently in smart cities.
